From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of locations in the Hoenn region of the Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.

Contents

[edit] Cities and towns

[edit] Littleroot Town

Littleroot Town (ミシロタウン Mishiro Taun?, Mishiro Town in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional location in the Pokémon series, located in the Hoenn region. It is a small town with three buildings, but it is an important place in the beginning of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, as well as Pokémon Emerald in that it is the home town of both characters which the player can take control of. It is based on Sasebo, Nagasaki.

The laboratory of Professor Birch is located here. Unlike the previous Pokémon games, the player does not receive his or her first Pokémon in the lab.

In the first Hoenn episode of the animé, May rides her bike to Littleroot Town to get her starter Pokémon from Professor Birch. However, Brich has left to help Ash and Pikachu. Near the end of the episode, the group later return to the lab, and May chooses Torchic as her starter.

[edit] Oldale Town

Oldale Town (コトキタウン Kotoki Taun?, Kotoki Town in original Japanese language versions) is the second town that the player visits in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Pokémon Emerald. It is a minor town and it is the first town that the player visits that has a Pokémart and Pokémon Center.

Oldale Town features a much more prominent role in the animé. North of Oldale Town are ruins that hold a secret to ancient Pokémon. Ash and May also first meet Team Magma in Oldale Town, whom are attempting to steal the secret of the ruins.

[edit] Petalburg City

"Petalburg" redirects here. It is also the name of a town in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Petalburg City (トウカシティ Tōka Shiti?, Tōka City in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional city in the Pokémon series. It is located in the Hoenn region. It contains one's "father's" gym, and is where one meets Wally, a friend of the main character.

Norman is the new gym leader here, who moved in from the Johto region. He is the main character's father in the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald versions. He uses Normal-type Pokémon. His gym is divided into several rooms, each with a Trainer that uses a unique strategy, most of which correspond to items used to boost a stat temporarily (X Attack, X Accuracy, etc.).

In the animé, May's family lives in Petalburg City, including her father Norman, who is also the Gym Leader.

[edit] Rustboro City

Rustboro City (カナズミシテ Kanazumi Shiti?, Kanazumi City in original Japanese language versions) is a place in the fictional world of Pokémon. It is north of Petalburg City and houses the first gym leader, Roxanne, that the player can battle. It also includes the Devon Corporation, a large company that cretaes many items for trainers.

In the anime, the group visits a Pokémon Contest hall that is on the outskirts of Rustboro. It is here that May is inspired to become a Pokémon Coordinator, rather than a usual trainer that battles in gyms.

[edit] Dewford Town

Dewford Town (ムロ島 or ムロタウン Muro-jima or Muro Taun?, Muro Island or Muro Town in original Japanese language versions) is the second town that features a gym.

The little shack near the Pokémon Center houses a place called Dewford Hall. Since Dewford Town is so far from the mainland, citizens are always eager to hear the latest news from newcomers. A guy outside of the hall will tell the person about the current trendy phrase. If the player says that the current phrase is not the hip and trendy thing, he or she can change it. Once the new phrase sticks, the whole island will start to believe that it is the cool. This actually affects where Feebas will appear, and will also affect if it actually appears or not.

In the anime, Ash challenges Brawly to a battle but loses. After retraining, Ash challenges Brawly to a rematch in Brawly's Training Cave Center, where Ash prevails.

[edit] Slateport City

Slateport City (カイナシティ Kaina Shiti?, Kaina City in original Japanese language versions) is a city. It holds a ferry link to Lilycove City. Slateport City also features the Oceanic Museum, a museum that is full of items and objects recovered from the sea. There are a lot of little islands and fast currents around Slateport.

The Pokémon Contest located here is the Hyper Rank contest. Inside, the player can obtain the PokéBlock Case, which is required to use the Berry Blending machines in the contest halls and also to visit the Safari Zone.

In Pokémon Emerald, the contest hall has been replaced with a Battle Tent. The player chooses three rental Pokémon to battle with. Upon defeating an opponent, the player receives the option to "swap" one of their rented Pokémon for one of the opponent's rented Pokémon. After three trainers and two possible swaps, the player receives a prize.

[edit] Mauville City

Mauville City (キンセツシティ Kinsetsu Shiti?, Kinsetsu City in original Japanese language versions) is a junction city. Roads from Mauville lead west to Verdanturf Town, south to Slateport City, east to Fortree City and Lilycove City, and north to Fallarbor Town and Lavaridge Town. It has the Mauville City Gym under leader Wattson.

Mauville also houses bicycle shop run by Rydel. He is a benevolent shop owner who will give the player a Mach Bike or Acro Bike. The Mach Bike is fast, but it can't do any tricks; the Arco Bike is much slower but can do tricks. Some areas require the use of one of the bikes. Players may exchange between the two bikes at any time.

Mauville also features a casino that features slot machines and roulette. Players can win dolls (which are of the starter Pokemon) and TMs.

Mavuille is run by an underground generator called New Mauville. After beating the fifth gym, players may get the Basement Key from Wattson to complete an optional sidequest. The side quest involves turning off the generator, and if the player succeeds, he or she is rewarded with a TM.

[edit] Verdanturf Town

Verdanturf Town (シダケタウン Shidake Taun?, Shidake Town in original Japanese language versions) is a small town with only one major landmark. Verdanturf features a contest site where a pokémon can compete with others in specific contests. Verdanturf also is home to Wally's family. This is where he resides after his defeat at Mauville City. Verdanturf has a woman who will tell the player how much a pokémon likes the player.

[edit] Fallarbor Town

Fallarbor Town (ハジツゲタウン Hajitsuge Taun?, Hajitsuge Town in original Japanese language versions) lies north of Mt. Chimney. Most of its inhabitants work in agriculture; the soil is very fertile because of its high content of volcanic ash. The town is home to the Super Rank pokemon contest.

In Pokémon Emerald, after the player defeats the Elite Four, inside the Fossil Maniac's house is an entrance to the Desert Underpass. It stretches under the town and to the desert. The area houses wild Pokémon and a second fossil.

[edit] Lavaridge Town

Lavaridge Town (フエンタウン Fuen Taun?, Fuen Town in original Japanese language versions) is located at the foothills of Mt. Chimney. It has a population of 16 people.

The Lavaridge Pokémon Center is connected to a hot spring, which is what Lavaridge Town is famous for all over the Hoenn region. It is said by the NPCs that it will calm the player and his other Pokémon.

Located north of the town is a location called Mt. Chimney. In the events of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, Team Aqua or Team Magma steal a meteorite in an attempt to control the volcano; Magma wants to expand the land (by making it erupt), while Aqua wishes to cool it down so it fills up with water. In either case, once the player defeats the admin, the respective team leaves the location.

[edit] Fortree City

Fortree City (ヒワマキシティ Hiwamaki Shiti?, Hiwamaki City in original Japanese language versions) is a city in the region of Hoenn, which is part of the Pokémon World. It was built atop the trees (everything except the Pokémon Center, the Poké Mart and the Gym), giving it its name.

West of the city in Route 119 is the Weather Institute. Although it is not technically part of the city, it is still a critical element of the game's plot. Here, scientists have invented the weather-controlling Pokémon, Castform. When Team Magma (in Ruby) or Team Aqua (Sapphire and Emerald) invade the facility, the player must fight them off. In Emerald, the Weather Institute will also tell the player of unusual weather disturbances, such as a lot of rain or sunshine, which is where Kyogre and Groudon are.

[edit] Lilycove City

Lilycove City (ミナモシティ Minamo Shiti?, Minamo City in original Japanese language versions) is a port city in northeast Hoenn.

It houses a huge department store, an art museum, and Master-Rank Pokémon contest hall. Remember that it is one of the few places where the player can find Staryu in the games. The S.S. Tidal, which is built in Slateport City in the southwest by Captain Stern, operates a ferry service between this city, Slateport City, and the Battle Tower (Battle Frontier in Emerald).

Lilycove has a port that sails to many places. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the player can sail to Slateport City. In Ruby and Sapphire, the player can also sail to the Battle Tower, while in Emerald he or she can sail to the Battle Frontier. This port can also ship players to special, event-only locations such as Southern Island and Birth Island.

[edit] Mossdeep City

Mossdeep City (トクサネシティ Tokusane Shiti?, Tokusane City in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional in-game city found in the Pokémon video games. It is based on Tanegashima, Japan.

The Mossdeep City Space Center, is where, if the player talks to one of the scientists, the scientist will announce "This is the next successful liftoff." In Pokémon Emerald, after beating Tate & Liza at the gym, Team Magma will invade the Space Center in an attempt to get rocket fuel. In the final battle, the player will team up with Steven to battle against Maxie, Team Magma's leader, and his subordinate.

The Shoal Cave is located north of Mossdeep City. Its most notable feature is the changing tides, which vary by the time of the day.

[edit] Sootopolis City

Sootopolis City (ルネシティ Rune Shiti?, Rune City in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional city in the Pokémon series of games. It is located in the Hoenn region. One can only enter the city the first time from underwater. Sootopolis is built in the cone of an extinct volcano. The last Gym is located here, as well as the Cave of Origin.

In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the player goes to Sootopolis City when the weather in Hoenn is too hot or when it's raining hard (depending on the version). The goal is to find and defeat Groudon (in Ruby) or Kyogre (in Sapphire).

The Cave of Origin is a fictional cave in the Pokémon series. It is located in the Hoenn region, at the north end of Sootopolis City. It is guarded by Wallace/Juan of Sootopolis Gym and is said to be a cave of beginnings where life begins. It's opposite landmark is Mt. Pyre, said to be the place where life ends. Residents of Sootopolis are not permitted to enter the Cave of Origin.

In the cave of origin, May or Brendan discover Groudon or Kyogre games after the legendary Pokémon are exposed to either the Blue Orb or Red Orb. In Emerald, Wallace is inside the Cave of Origin and knows how to stop the scuffle between Kyogre and Groudon.

In the anime, Juan is the last Gym Leader that Ash has to battle. His Gym is very stylish.

[edit] Pacifidlog Town

Pacifidlog Town (キナギタウン Kinagi Taun?, Kinagi Town in original Japanese language versions) is an isolated settlement in the Pokémon game. The entire town is said to have been built on top of a colony of Corsola that inhabit this area. The town uses wooden planks to connect the buildings together, and as such, the player cannot use his or her bicycle here.

Paciflidlog Town is very different in the animé. It is a much larger island town, and it also contains a contest hall, where May competes to get her fifth ribbon.

Mirage Island only appears when the ID number on one of the player's Pokémon matches the given number of Mirage Island. The numbers change everyday into any random number. Players usually go through the whole game without seeing this mysterious island. Wynaut run wild on the island and are from levels 5-50. The island is also the only place to find the Leichi Berry[1], but Wynaut is obtainable in 2 other ways. Wynaut comes from the egg in Lavaridge Town [2][3] or breeding Wobbuffet holding Lax incense.

[edit] Ever Grande City

Ever Grande City (サイユウシティ Saiyū Shiti?, Saiyū City in original Japanese language versions) is a fictional city in the Pokémon series. It is located in the Hoenn region. The city consists of two parts: the area before Victory Road, which has a Pokémon Center, and the area after it, which contains the Hoenn Pokémon League building.

The Hoenn Pokémon League is home to the best trainers in Hoenn. Like with previous regions, the player can heal his or her Pokémon, buy items, and challenge the Elite Four. Each member of the Elite Four also specializes in a single type.

[edit] Other locations

[edit] Petalburg Woods

The Petalburg Woods are an area found north of Petalburg City. In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the first time the player enters the Woods, he or she is attacked by a member of Team Aqua or Team Magma. The member attempts to steal some research papers from a man in the woods. The man turns to the player for help. If the player wins, the man will thank him or her by giving him or her Great Ball.

[edit] Rusturf Tunnel

Rusturf Tunnel is a tunnel between Rustboro City and Verdanturf Town. Its name is a portamantu of the first and last parts of the two cities that the tunnel joins. It has been featured in several different places, including the anime and some of the video games. In the video games, construction has stopped because of concerns over disturbing the Whismur in the cave. Once the player learns Rock Smash, he or she can break a rock to open the tunnel up.

[edit] Granite Cave

Granite Cave is an area in the northwest area of Dewford. In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the player must go through the cave to deliver a letter to a man named Steven Stone. Like the Rock Tunnel in the Kanto region, the cave is dark, and the player must have the HM Flash in order to get around. A hiker at the entrance will give it to the player. The player can use the HM after defeating Brawley. Once the player gives the letter to Steven Stone, the event is done and he or she may leave to advance to the next part of the game.

[edit] Devon Corporation

The Devon Corporation is a fictional company in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire and Emerald versions. It is very similar to Silph Co. from Kanto & Johto, but is the Hoenn equivalent. They have headquarters in Rustboro City. They are also rumoured to run the Pokémarts in Hoenn.

In the games, Devon Corp. is chaired by Mr. Stone. It plays an important role in the games, allowing the player to receive certain important items and revive fossils into Pokémon. The Devon Corp. headquarters are the target for robbery by Team Aqua & Team Magma. If the player stops the crimes, they will be rewarded with a Great Ball, which is a specialized Pokéball. Afterwards, Mr. Stone will ask the player to deliver a letter to his son Steven. He will reward the player with a Pokénav.

In the anime, Devon Corp.'s headquarters are visited by Ash and the gang. In the episode, Max obtains the Pokénav. The episode also introduces the new antagonists, Team Aqua, who almost destroy the world later on. [4]

[edit] Meteor Falls

Meteor Falls is a waterfall-filled cave located in the near Fallarbor Town. The cavern is particularly distinctive as it's the habitat for Lunatone in Sapphire or Solrock in Ruby or Emerald.

Though players will initially have to pass through the area early on in the games to save Prof. Cosmo from Team Aqua or Team Magma, the majority of the area is not accessible to players until late in the game, when the Waterfall HM is available. Of interest to trainers is the rare Dragon Pokémon Bagon, which is only found deep inside the caves. Additionally, in Pokémon Emerald one may challenge Steven Stone after becoming champion.

[edit] Sky Pillar

Sky Pillar is an abandoned tower to the northeast of Pacifidlog Town, located in the Hoenn region, that is home to very strong Pokémon. It plays a major role in Emerald and is an extra in Ruby and Sapphire. In Emerald, the player needs to go to Sky Pillar to summon Rayquaza to solve the fight between Kyogre and Groudon in Sootopolis City.

During the stage play on Sky Pillar, the items needed are HM03 (Surf) and the Mach Bike. Surf is necessary since Sky Pillar is on an island in the ocean, and as there are cracks in the floor the Mach Bike is needed to speed over them in order to prevent the player from falling through. The Master Ball will also be of aid when trying to catch the rare and powerful Rayquaza.

When the final floor of Sky Pillar is reached, Rayquaza can be captured. Rayquaza is the legendary figure of the Sky in the games, and it is called to calm down Kyogre (legendary figure of the water) and Groudon (legendary figure of the land) after their cataclysmic second fight.

[edit] Victory Road

Victory Road (チャンピオンロード Chanpion Rōdo?, Champion Road in original Japanese language versions) is a large cave that leads to the Pokémon League. It holds many trainers aspiring to reach the Pokémon League. Many other people can be battled in Victory Road, generally with fully evolved Pokémon around their Level 40s. During some point in Victory Road, a boy named Wally will catch up to the player and battle. The player originally mentored Wally at the beginning of the game, and Wally has matured into a strong opponent.

[edit] Sealed Chamber

The Sealed Chamber is a location in on the fictional Hoenn continent on the Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald video games. It can be reached by diving underwater while on Route 134. It must be visited to unlock the caves that hold the three Legendary Pokémon, Regice, Regirock, and Registeel.

[edit] Battle Tower

In Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, the Battle Tower (バトルタワー Batoru Tawā?) is located on a small island. Its motto is "Win it all and be the best, Trainers!" To access the facility, the player must first defeat the Elite Four, then receive the S.S. Tidal Ticket from the protagonist's father, Norman. After journeying on the newly completed ship, the player will gain the option to visit the Battle Tower.

Several prizes are awarded in the Battle Tower. Aside from the prizes from the original tower, players may also be awarded several hold items which were introduced in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Upon reaching their fiftieth and hundredth victories, players will be awarded one of two shields which can be used to decorate their secret bases.

The Battle Tower rules in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire are primarily the same as the Pokémon Crystal Battle Tower, with a few other Pokémon, such as Kyogre and Groudon, added to the list of Pokémon forbidden in the Battle Tower.

In Pokémon Emerald, the Battle Tower is located in the Battle Frontier, and is also accessed after defeating the Elite Four. The Battle Tower's system has been dramatically changed since Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. There are four modes of battle, including Double Battle and Multi Battle, as well as a mode allowing cooperation with a friend.

Prizes are replaced with Battle Points (BP). Defeating the Frontier Brain will reward the player with an influx of BP. Of the prizes, the Gold and Silver Shields remain, and other prizes can be purchased for BP elsewhere in the Battle Frontier.
