Twinleaf Town (フタバタウン Futaba Taun?, Futaba Town in original Japanese language versions) is the town in which the protagonists of Diamond and Pearl, the player and their archrival, reside and from which they begin their journey across the region of Sinnoh. The Japanese name Futaba Town may refer to a Japanese word meaning bud or sprout (二葉 futaba?); however, similarly to the English name, the kanji can be interpreted as two leaves.

Sandgem Town (マサゴタウン Masago Taun?, Masago Town in original Japanese language versions) houses the laboratory of Professor Rowan, an accomplished professor whose expertise concerns Pokémon, and features the game's first Pokémon Center and Pokémart. Its English name is a play on the Japanese name, Kotobuki City; kotobuki (寿?) is a Japanese expression similar to "Long life!" or "Congratulations!"
[edit] Oreburgh City
Oreburgh City (クロガネシチ, Kurogane Shiti, Kurogane City in original Japanese language versions) is a coal-mining city, home to the first Sinnoh region Gym Leader - Hyouta. The English name is a reference to iron ore, which is a play on its Japanese name.
