[edit] Welcome to WP:NOVEL
I saw what job you intended to do... adding infoboxes to novels without them. Please have a look at this list... it is an automated list of articles with out an infobox. It goes category by category. I am the person that makes that list, and I am always in need of new categories to search. So post ideas for categories on the talk page if you are interested!!
Thanks for joining WP:NOVEL!!!
Hi, and welcome to the Novels WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to fiction books often refered to as "Novels".
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated quite regularly. You can watch it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WikiProject_Novels_announcements}} there.
While you are updating your userpage, don't forget our userbox {{User WikiProject Novels}}. - The project has a monthly newsletter; it will normally be delivered as a link, but other methods are available.
There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:
- Starting some new articles? Our article structure guidelines / template outlines some things to include.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the members, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:38, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lead paragraph
This is really a question about the article lead paragraph. the guidance about this across "all" articles is that it is meant to be a cut down version of the whole article. Or the basic information anyone should known about the subject of the article. So I personally believe year of publication is one thing to be in that paragraph. However I do NOT think that ISBN should be part of that information, which veers towards the advertising that wikipedia is not supposed to be. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 07:59, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Novel searches
I noticed your post on Eagle's talk page saying that you used Amazon for novel searches, I just wanted to let you know that [www.alibris.com] is also very useful, as you can specify first editions in your search, and the library of congress website at [www.loc.gov] has every edition of every book published in America, and lists all the info, unlike alibris most of the time. Just look for the earliest date. -- Gizzakk 01:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, most of the time you should use the first edition cover/ISBN/page count in the infobox, and note it as such. Any other editions can be listed under a "release details" subheading, and alternate covers (later editions, different languages, etc) can be arranged throughout the article, but for a short article just the first edition cover is probably sufficient. If, however, you cannot find the first edition info, or the info you do find does not specifically state that it is first edition, make sure to note that the info you use is from X edition, or an unknown edition. Also, be aware that not all first editions are "true" first editions- if a book is released in different countries and/or by a different publisher, it will most likely be stated as a first edition, even though it is not. If you are unsure, look for "first printing" and/or the earliest date you can find. -- Gizzakk 22:23, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] DYK
I noticed you did an update. However you missed several critical steps of the procedure. Also you didn't select some good articles that would be uneligible the next day and as such will never see the light of the day (so to speak). Next time please do the updating properly, like described at Template talk:Did you know. Grue 17:05, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
- Yep, it's easy to do something wrong given how complex the procedure is. In addition to editing the template you also needed to update its talk page, archiving the old content, removing selected items and updating time. You are welcome to try to do it next time. Oh, and by the way...

[edit] RE: Johnny Lee Clary - Please help
Hey there, my name is Nick, my username is Potters house and I have encountered a problem with trying to provide any information about Johnny Lee Clary. I have posted this post off to other staff members also. I am not sure if this is the best route to resolve this, but can think of no other way.
The article Johnny Lee Clary has been deleted. I have known Johnny through telephone conversations and email for a short time now (about 3-4 months). He recently came and shared his life story in for our church group for the first time just two weeks ago. Before I met Johnny I became interested in his story i.e. his conversion from the head of the KKK in the US, to being a Christian Minister who now teaches against race hate groups. I found the article Johnny Lee Clary as it still is today, deleted, except for some small talk. If you read the talk you see what I have said at the time (notice I have gotten no reply, probable my fault as I don’t know heaps about WIKI policy). From my understanding Johnny Lee Clary was posting as The KingOfDixie and looks like he tried to change a few things on Wiki concerning the KKK. While this is a controversial subject, Johnny being the former leader of the KKK would probably know a thing or two and be able to contibute, but that’s another story. He eventually made an article about himself i.e. Johnny Lee Clary. Johnny being quite new to Wiki and ignorant of rules of conduct found himself at odds with some admins and had his site deleted.
Whilst observing Johnny over the last 3-4 months I have noticed that he is very outspoken against race hate groups such as the Neo Nazis, Skinheads, KKK etc. This, more often than not, lands Johnny in the hot seat. He has experienced persecution from racist groups for his departure from the KKK and voiced opinions against these racist organizations on his webpage, www.xkkk.org. Johnny has also received multiple death threats.
Because of his bold stance against these racist groups Johnny has become accustomed to hatred directed at him by those same groups. Johnny concluded that perhaps the guy who deleted the page Johnny Lee Clary was a white supremist. I am hoping to clear this up. Before he told me this, I started to create J L Clary, after hearing nothing from posting in user talk on Johnny Lee Clary's article. I wasn't 10 minutes into the J L Clary article when it was issued a deletion notice, and then before I had time to reply (about 5 minutes) it was deleted! I was amazed. I told this to Johnny and he said the main reason he was told that he couldn't have an article was because he was not prominent enough.
Johnny has a very famous testimony and has been on multiple TV shows like Oprah, Donahue, Jerry Springer, etc, and even recently when he preached in our town he made front page news, a double spread on his life, and the local ABC interviewed him live, which is not bad for our town (LISMORE NSW Australia) See http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history .
When David Wilkerson came to our town hardly anyone knew or cared, yet David Wilkerson is allowed an article (and rightfully so), but more people know of Johnny. As to whether he is famous or not, just Google search him and see all the TV interviews and radio interviews he does. He hangs with some of the most prominent Christian leaders in Australia. Besides this, just being the former KKK leader should be enough for an article (he doesn't even get a mention in the KKK one, and would be deleted). He was also a Pro Wrestler. So he is prominent in Christian circles, he is prominent amongst race hate groups, and he is also prominent in the WWE wrestling.
Johnny asked me to test the waters for him to see if he was being persecuted by someone from a race hate group. So I created some sites, John Clary Wade Watts and Operation Colorblind - the name of Johnny's Ministry. These have been fine until yesterday. I cannot understand why these sites are just issued a deletion notice? Just because they mention JLC? I was hoping to discuss these things but they are just deleted. The one on Wade Watts is about a black gospel preacher who was one of the leaders in the civil rights movement in the US and was good friends with Martin Luther King. He took Johnny Clary under his wing and even ordained Johnny as a minister (to this day Johnny is the only white man ordained in the All Black Baptist Church). But his article is up for deletion because I mentioned Clary and had a link.
That is why I am writing to you to see if you can help. It seems to me that the person(s) deleting all articles which even mention Johnny Lee Clary has an agenda. I thought that wikipedia admins had to keep a neutral stance on every article. It seems like this guy has a vendetta against JLC. Why delete the Wade Watts article. That is guilt by association and could be proof that all deletions are because of racial discrimination! I hope this is not the case and would think that it is politically motivated, as Johnny is a strong supporter of George Bush and Antaeus Feldspar of Kerry.
See:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Kerry&dir=prev&offset=20050327125109&limit=500&action=history This shows how Antaeus Feldspar supports Kerry, which is fine, but Johnny is a strong supporter of Bush.
My hope is that Johnny will be able to have an article like any other famous person, minister, former KKK leader, or pro wrestler, and that Johnny and anyone connected with him and his ministry will in future have certain rules set in place that do not allow the wholesale deletion of the articles associated with him, but that they will be at least discussed.
I thank you for reading this long winded post. I have only been using WIKI for about a year myself so I need your help, I don't really know what else to do. I hope you can help. I personally think that Johnny's story is one that is beneficial to the cause of reconciliation between races and to the3 unity of society as a whole. It would be a shame if WIKI became known for having covert racists. Of course I hope that this is a misunderstanding and that all will be cleared up soon.

Hi. I'm not very good with templates but could you make the "chairman" and "population" fields optional and create another optional field for "chairmen" (plural)? This would be necessary for cases such as the Transcaucasian SFSR. Thanks in advance! -- Clevelander 22:36, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- No problem. -- Clevelander 23:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Great work. I'll apply the template to the Lithuanian SSR, Moldavian SSR, Tajik SSR, Turkmen SSR, Ukrainian SSR, and Uzbek SSR templates. BTW, the Karelo-Finnish SSR was established on March 31, 1940. -- Clevelander 19:44, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] David Card
Thank you for your concern on David Card. I acually am planning on making a article on him. I started that page because I made a page for Combined Transport Inc.. And since no one has a article I was starting to make one. I can understand you maybe getting a little annoyed at this. But I was just gathering information about everyone first then making it. Now that you have voiced your concern I for now will make a basic stub, then finish it later. But yep, I shall be making a lot of articles in the time to come. If you need me again just put it on my chat page. Thanks! --Steven91 06:12, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

What's wrong with the table? It looks good to me. I am not sure what the problem was with the <td>, though. It has never had any glitches for me since I last tried to add new features to it.
–Whaleyland ( Talk • Contributions )
- Okay, so I remembered something that got erased when some rules were removed for beautification purposes. You don't have to put in <td>, you just have to put in a |- after the s-ttl. It was something I couldn't ever fix because I couldn't put an end-line css in s-ttl because it is usually followed by something like s-aft. Just insert a |- and it works. Sorry about the confusion.

[edit] hello
I saw that you've listed "Iran's Islamic foreign policy" for deletion, I just wanted to tell you that "Patchouli" the user who created that article has also created many other similar political articles that are extremely biased and look like original work, here is another example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opposition_to_Iran-Iraq_War
Can you please list that article for deletion too, I don't know how to.
[edit] Infoboxes
Sure, go ahead. However, it would be nice if you included more fields to your template (ideally all of those that are already there in "my version"). Now that the wiki can handle conditional clauses in tables and templates this shouldn't be a problem for anyone and I'm an inclusionist, so the more fields are there, the better. Also, a thing I was thinking of adding myself was, in addition to the footnote field, some way to indicate whether a voivodeship is historical or modern. A place for timespan would be more than enough, ideally somewhere near the top. Alternatively we could include two colour schemes, but this wouldn't be as evident I guess. //Halibutt 20:51, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
- Sure, logo is not a crucial thing, same as GDP or unemployment rate (actually nobody in Poland knows for sure what the level of unemployment is). On the other hand more fields for levels of administrative division could be nice, especially that people here in Poland differ very strongly when it comes to local patriotism. Most of us feel Poles and citizens of a particular town and voivodeship, but in some cases the feelings for the town are replaced by the feelings towards a commune or a powiat. Another useful inclusion IMO would be an additional field for percentage of the population of the entire country living in the particular voivodeship. And of course a place for the external link would also be a nice idea. //Halibutt 04:41, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for Comment
Hello there! I'm Scalene, and I am the third party for the conflict between Fan-1967 (talk) and Patchouli (talk), about Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Opposition to Iran-Iraq War. I noticed that you nominated the article for deletion. Also, you have raised some unique points. I believe these points could help reach a resolution. Because of these two reasons, I ask if you would not mind taking the time to join the conflict resolution. Scalene•UserPage•Talk•Contributions•Biography• 11:13, 26 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] POV pushing
Thanks for your reply, I really think that an administrator's intervention is needed here, User:Patchouli doesn't seem to understand that articles must be created or written from a neutral point of view or that this is an encyclopedia and NOT a political fourm. To see what I mean, just look at some of the articles he's created or has been working on:
Mohammad Khatami's reforms (POV fork to bash a living person, just look at the introduction and how biased it's worded)
Mohammad Khatami ( Please see the evidence of some of Patchouli's abuses at Talk:Mohammad_Khatami#Patchouli_edits, it includes links and refernces to his personal attacks on other users' talk pages calling them agents of foreign governments etc)
Guardianship of the Islamic Jurists (adding Mullahcracy which is political epithet, jargon and neologism, as an alternative to the title of the article by citing political editorials! Also see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Mullahcracy)
Association for Defense of Azerbaijani Political Prisoners (POV fork)
Khomeini's Islamic leadership (POV fork)
Government-organized demonstration (POV fork)
P.s Please look at this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Iran%27s_Islamic_foreign_policy&action=history The AfD that you had submitted was closed, the result was to redirect the page, but Patchouli still keeps reverting the page and removing the re-direct against the AfD consusneus. This is just yet another example of this user's POV-pushing and disruption.
--Patrick987 06:06, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
- I highly encourage Patrick987 to go to Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2006 October 27 for his last item.
My own contributions range from mathematics to science to history to sexuality to... You might want to carefully examine my contributions and not throw half a dozen articles at me with ambiguity.
- A thorough reading of Talk:Mohammad Khatami will show that I am the most unbiased editor. I strongly exhort thee to do so as an administrator. That alone will vindicate me and I shall not proceed further. I stand by all my comments on that page.--Patchouli 18
- 09, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
I think User:Patrick987 has explained things very clearyly. My native language is not English and I have a little bit of difficulty expressing my thoughts, so it made me feel really good to read Patrick987's comment because it exactly covered all of the things that I wanted to say (specially the part about Mullacracy which I didn't know how to explain in English that it's not a formal/polite word). Anyway I have already written about Patchouli's numerous violations of wikipedia rules in Mohammad Khatami, which you can read in this talk section, there I have pointed out one by one cases of npov-violation and what I would like to call his "sneaky" vandalism, his misleading use of references, etc. etc. It seems that this user either lacks common sense (and therefore does not understand the concept of NPOV) or he is deliberately trying to sabotage wikipedia. In either case he must be stopped as soon as possible. Barnetj 19:03, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
LittleDan, would you please inform us if you are taking any action in regards to the situation with User:Patchouli or not? It seems that you are not pursuing the matter. He's continuing his sabotage of different articles and it seems that nobody has the will or power to stop him! see his new edits on Mohammad Khatami's reforms Barnetj 15:30, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Hi LittleDan. I'm planning of taking action against User:Patchouli by filing a complaint in ArbCom because I do not think there's a reasonable chance of making him comply with wikipedia regulations by any other means. I want to list you as one of the involved parties and I'd like to know if you are willing to provide a statement in ArbCom, explaining your encounter with Patchouli. I will appreciate if you let me know as soon as possible. thank you Barnetj 14:06, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Response
After responding to queries, I clean my talk page to avoid the temptation of looking back and wasting my time as you are needlessly forcing me to do. I hereby deny your numerous allegations specifically and categorically. I spend gargantuan efforts towards sourced and high-quality contributions. None of "POV forks" as thou allegeth. Your own support for the outright deletion of Opposition to Iran-Iraq War is highly questionable and that issue has not been resolved.
I suggest that you squander neither my time nor yours with baseless allegations.----Patchouli 17:56, 27 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User Patchouli
A report has been filed against user Patchouli for his POV pushing. Please contribute at [1]
- I added one of your comments in his talk page there.--Sa.vakilian 18:58, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
- I gathered some proofs against him [2] and I wanted User:Bishonen to help me. This is his advice. [3] Now please come and write a strong claim against him in Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents: Community ban against Patchouli or any thing else which you prefer. I prefer you do so not me because you are an admin and also you're not Iranian. Thus nobody can blame you that you want to censor different POV. Thanks a lot.--Sa.vakilian 14:25, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
- My 2 cents. I don't know this user personally, but I hoped that we could salvage this one. Admittedly, I can't make him do anything or control his behaviour. Knowing that he'll likely try to return, I only hope that if does try to come back sometime down the road he will have learned his lesson. - List any bad edits and I'll revert them (using undo). As for him trying to return, did you block his IP? BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, odometer) 03:13, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
