Matthew Shaun Kilgallon (born January 8, 1984 in York) is an English professional footballer currently playing for Sheffield United.
A product of the youth set-up at Leeds, Kilgallon first made a senior appearance for Leeds in 2004, showing signs he was a decent player in the making. During that season he scored 2 decent goals and proved he was worthy of trying out in the England Under-21 set-up. Once Leeds had dropped to the Championship, Killa (his nick-name from the Leeds lads) began to make more appearances and held down a more permanent place in the 1st 11. He played a major role in the club's run through the 2006 Premiership play-off series, helping them make the final.
He impressed many recent months, attracting interest from a number of Premiership clubs. Kilgallon played most of Leeds's matches of the first half of the season, keeping experienced centre-backs Sean Gregan and Hayden Foxe out of the team. Kilgallon was subject to a £1 million bid from Premiership-side Reading at the start of the 2006-07 season, which was rejected by Ken Bates, who described the bid as "laughable for a player of his quality" especially since Bates sees him as "the new Woody". Kilgallon held down a regular start in new manager, Dennis Wise's new look Leeds team. An ankle injury ruled him out of a few matches and after coming on as a substitute, he aggravated his injury, causing him to miss a few more matches. Kilgallon was believed to be wanted by many Premiership clubs, such as Sheffield United, Liverpool and once again Reading, but eventually signed for Sheffield United on January 8 2007 for £1.75 million going up to £2 million and also a 20% sell on clause.
Kilgallon is yet to make his Sheffield United debut.
