"My Boo" was released in 2004. The popular R&B song, a romantic duet between Usher Raymond and Alicia Keys set over a hip-hop-styled track, produced by Jermaine Dupri, with ghost production by No I.D., a former collaborator of Common, and uses a sample of Love Unlimited Orchestra's "He's All I Got". The song, credited as being written by Dupri, Keys, Raymond, Manuel Seal, Jr. and Adonis Shropshire, was the #1 song on the US pop chart from October 30, 2004 to December 4, 2004. The song's video was also a popular staple of MTV, MTV2, and BET. "My Boo" was the anchor of a reissued and extended version of Usher's multi-platinum album Confessions.
This song was originally an unreleased duet between Usher and a demo singer that was supposed to appear on the original Confessions album. The demo singer was rumored to be Beyoncé Knowles, but fans quickly proved that the difference in the vocals was too alarming. There was even a 'casting demo' of Usher singing with both Alicia & the unknown singer on trial to see who should be Usher's duet partner, and both candidates brought different lyrics. When they decided to release the song, the version with Alicia's vocal's was chosen. The version with Usher and the demo singer was leaked to a Tapemasters Inc. Mixtape in summer of 2004. At one point in mid-October 2004, "My Boo" was the twelfth most-searched-for music term on the Yahoo! search engine's Buzz Index.
