TV.com summary |
My Gym Partner's a Monkey is an American animated television series created by Timothy and Julie McNally Cahill and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. The first episode of the series premiered on December 26, 2005, as a sneak peek into Cartoon Network's new shows for the following year. Regular showings began on February 20, 2006
The story revolves around Adam Lyon, a human student at Chester Arthur Middle School. After a typo changes his last name to "Lion", he is sent to Charles Darwin Middle School (named after naturalist Charles Darwin, developer of modern evolutionary theory) a school for anthropomorphic animals. Shortly after his transfer, he is partnered with Jake Spidermonkey (an actual spidermonkey) in gym, hence the title. While Adam has to deal with the obvious difficulties humans have performing animal-like tasks, Jake just has fun at everyone else's expense.
Much of Charles Darwin Middle School is modeled after specific habitats. For example, there are fish tubes created so that the fish can breathe and swim around. There are also vines and bodies of water.

[edit] Characters
[edit] Adam Lyon
A naïve twelve-year old human who was transferred from a human school to Charles Darwin Middle School by an accidental misspelling of his last name ("Lyon" to "Lion"), Adam must constantly deal with the strange practices of his animal classmates, as well as his hyperactive-monkey best friend. Adam is also lactose intolerant. He is often seen outside of the animal school with a human named Kerry, who he holds a secret crush on. But a Giraffe named Ingrid who goes to his school has a crush on him.
[edit] Jacob "Jake" P. Spidermonkey
Jake, as his last name implies, is a spider monkey. He wears a green cap and a red sweater. He is energetic, butt-obessed, and adventurous, quickly becoming Adam's best buddy after they are paired as gym partners, hence the series title. Jake's a true friend who will do anything to help Adam out of trouble, even though many times, Jake's the one who got them into trouble in the first place. He's also a good speller. He even won a spelling contest in school to prove it. He is voiced by Tom Kenny, who also voices Dickie Sugarjumper and Henry Armadillo.
[edit] Slips Python
A carefree constrictor snake. He is as nitwitted as Jake, and loves to eat outrageous foods. Slips is mostly seen with Windsor the Gorilla, who helps Adam in his wild situations. Seen in episode 11.
[edit] Lupe Toucan
This female toucan who speaks with a Spanish accent is the resident gossip-meister. She has shown a slight crush for Jake in "Up All Night" and falls in love with Orlando Parrot in "Lupe In Love"(And there's also someone else in that episode, it was a vulture!). She can be temperamental and is best friend of Ingrid and sometimes seen flying without beating her wings. In "Making The Grade" she's known to speak three different languages. (English, Spanish, and possibly French.)
[edit] Windsor Gorilla
He is an intelligent grey male gorilla with a large vocabulary that is seen mostly with Slips, Lupe, Jake, Ingrid, and Adam. He wears a green hat (something worn by break dancers), a yellow jacket, blue trousers and black boots. In one episode Windsor is seen with a ventriloquist dummy named Teddy Truman (named after Presidents Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt and Harry Truman).
[edit] Ingrid Giraffe
Ingrid is a giraffe that is seen mostly with Lupe her best friend, but is also seen with Windsor, Slips, Adam, and Jake. She wears a purple sweater and blue jeans. Ingrid sometimes gets pushed around by Lupe and does what she says. Her neck is enormously long that her head gets hidden above the screen. Her head however can be seen whenever she lowers it.
