Squirrel Boy is a American animated television series produced by Cartoon Network Studios. The series, created and executive produced by Everett Peck (who is also the creator of the more adult-humored Duckman), premiered on May 28, 2006 on Cartoon Network, starting off with the episode entitled, A Line in the Sandwich. Then on May 29, 2006, Cartoon Network aired this episode again. However, this time it was aired along with the episode, Tree for Two, which was repeated three times that day. Regular airings began on July 14, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. ET/PT, however, starting December 11, 2006, it would air Monday thru Thursday at 9:30 ET/PT.

[edit] Andrew "Andy" Johnson
Andy is Rodney's master and usually follows what Rodney thinks is "a good idea," which usually gets Andy into trouble. At times, though, Andy will be the mastermind of these foolish plans. He seems quite interested in many things, and has a good special sauce. He is a badger scout and he collects combs. He is also allergic to Cashews. Voiced by Pamela Adlon.

Rodney is a red squirrel that is the most active with his ideas. His "childish" antics add humor and personality to the series. He often slacks off while Andy does all the work and is frequently annoying Mr. Johnson. He saved his life once. He had a sailor's hat once (actually it was a twelve-pack) and was convinced it sold sandwiches. He loves Darlene. He sleeps in a cardboard box. Everytime Rodney spells Andy's name, it is spelled "Adny" instead of Andy. He apparently cannot write, shown when Rodney is writing a good bye note, and is actually a bunch of squiggles, vertical and horizentally. He once received a letter about being a blue tailed squirrel. Rodney says he "dyed it". The letter was meant for Leon, who is a blue tailed squirrel. Voiced by Richard Horvitz.
[edit] Robert "Bob" Johnson
Bob Johnson (usually referred to as Mr. J.) is Andy's father who doesn't care much for Rodney and isn't afraid to show it. He often will talk to Andy and say things like, "Andy, what did I tell you about pets touching your food?" Then Rodney will bring some comic relief like, "It's okay Mr. J. Andy's hands are clean." Mr. J. will then just walk away. He has lost in many competitions, such as cheese-log-eating contests or melon-cart racing. He has a collection of clowns in different moods. He's also shown a good amount of unhappiness about losing his hair. Voiced by Kurtwood Smith.
[edit] Lucille Johnson
Mrs. Johnson (or Mrs. J.) is one of the characters that (so far) barely talks in the show (excluding "Andy had a Little Squirrel"). She usually is very quiet and will only say one line, sometimes it only being to make a joke. She has a very cheery, happy-go-lucky personality, and is very mild tempered. She also has a singing talent. She is voiced by Nancy Sullivan.

Leon is Rodney's squirrel buddy who lives in the Johnson family's backyard. He is more a squirrel who loves the outdoors than an indoor pet and usually tries to find nuts. Leon also enjoys running on telephone wires, playing on busy streets, and being out in the sun all day. Though he is an outdoors animal, he still has a working television in his home with cable access. Leon is voiced by Tom Kenny.

Kyle Finkster is Andy's arch rival. He first appeared in "Scout's Dishonor", where he was in the Badger Scouts. Kyle got him and Rodney in trouble. Then Andy got blamed when Kyle should have. Andy and Rodney were glad they would never see him or his pet/friend parrot again but they moved into Andy's neighborhood as part of Kyle's father's Witness Protection Program. He is a thief, and also his toenails annually overgrow, and Salty Mike has to clip them off. Kyle seems to like using hammer or hammer-type things to cause damage to property. He is voiced by Billy West.

Salty Mike is Kyle's green pet/friend parrot and arch rival of Andy and Rodney. He does not repeat what others say, even though he is a parrot. He and Rodney tried to help their own friend {Rodney helped Andy, Salty Mike helped Kyle} do better in the Badger Scouts. His wings are clipped, which he is embarrassed about. Voiced by Carlos Alazraqui.

Oscar is Andy's human friend. He first appeared in "Scout's Dishonor" where he was seen in a TV screen camping and apparently couldn't come. In "Andy Had A Little Squirrel" he befriended Rodney and replaced Andy briefly. In the episode "Best of Best Friends" both Rodney and Andy temporarily make Oscar both of their best friend and constantly fought over him due to both getting in a huge fight and for that time were no longer best friends. Oscar also has a little sister that likes to hug squirrels very tight. Voiced by Jason Spisak

Darlene was introduced in "Pool for Love," Darlene wears a polka dot ribbon on her head and yellow fur and a hairdo. When Rodney fell in love with her, though she's Rodney's friend and she likes Rodney. She enjoys swimming, ribbons, sap, sunrise, sunset, other furry animals, cooking, and flowers, especially Daffodils. She is hard to upset or anger, and is calm, gentle, and a sweet personality. Darlene is interested in the paranormal subjects, and uses horoscopes, zodiac signs, and meditation. Darlene is voiced by Monica Lee Gradischek. She also looks partially like "Sandy Cheeks", from the Nicktoon SpongeBob SquarePants. Also, Darlene is terrified of bumper cars, due to a traumatic experience with them.

Ranger Stu is a forest ranger who has appeared in the episodes "Tree For Two", "The Endangered Species Twist", "Hole in the Story", and "Family Crude". He always starts talking to someone by saying "Hi, I'm Ranger Stu." in a deep voice. His favorite thing to say is "Don't litter".

Martha is the Johnsons' neighbor. She first appeared in "Outta Sight" and was seen clipping hedges that everyone (except Andy) thought was ugly. She is very conceited because she thinks she is better than everyone at everything. She is also known to secretly have a crush on Andy after he said her hedges were nice and after they spent the day together in "Trouble Date".
[edit] Slurp-Burp-Gurgle-Wurp
Slurp-Burg-Gurgle-Wurp is a big, hairy, drooling, brown spider that was originally going to be introduced in "The Rod Squad". He hid inside Darlene's hair and was to pop out and make Darlene faint and he would say his name confusing Rodney and Leon. However, the fans did not want him so they cut that part out. He would eventually make his appearance in an upcoming episode. In the episode "Wall of the Wild" the giant spider in it was thought to be Slurp-Burp-Gurgle-Wurp, but was turned out to not be.

Captain Puffy is the cereal mascot for cereal Puffy Pirate Shirt Puffs. He first appeared in Harried Teasure where there is an actor who dresses like him who is in a treasure chrest with boxes of cereal. He is a parody of Cap'n Crunch and looks similar to Jean LaFoote.
[edit] Eddie J. Squirrel
Eddie is Rodney's Flying Squirrel cousin who looks like Superman and the Fonz that cheats and plays dirty. Instead of gliding, Eddie can just fly around. His strength is paragon to Rodneys, and some other skills. Also known as The Thunder Squirrel, he traded country life for the city because of an incident of being squeezed by boas. Rodney claims to know because of having experienced shame and embarrassment, and reading Eddie's diary. Being seen on the newer version of the front card where credits appear in the start, it is thought that he will be in many more future episodes. Voiced by Ben Diskin.

Esther Flatbottom is one of Mr. Johnson's neighbors. Many times, she claims she "knew" that an event would happen. For instance, in the episode "Screw-Up in Aisle Six," she says that she knew that Rodney would take the last jar of lettuce juice. She is voiced by Mona Marshall. She usually appears to unfortunately spoil something, like catching Andy and Rodney being framed, or chasing Rodney across the neighborhood.She uses a wheelchair with rockets in the back. She makes delicious lemonade, which sends people into a trance with a white background, and rainbows are also accompanied in some way. Her name was revealed in "Screw-up in Aisle Six".

Kyle's father. Seen in "Family Crude". He has all the galeries in his engine. His favorite thing to say is "Who needs bouncing?". He made a cameo appearence in "Treehouse Broken". He is nice in "Family Crude" but mean in "Treehouse Broken". Barry has a father who owns a Carney Shop and was a criminal which appeared in "The Big Hangle Hassle" and "Outta Sight".

A grown up version of Andy that appears on further flashbacks. He appears in "Up All Night" for the yellow flash. He also appears in the episode The Grim Cheaper. He dosen't appear in lots of flashbacks.

A grown up version of Rodney that appears on further flashbacks. He appears in "Up All Night" sleeping. He also appears in The Grim Cheaper. He changes different colors. His mustache is gray in Up All Night, but was tan in The Grim Cheaper.

A grown up version of Kyle that appears in further flashbacks. He only appeared in Up All Night. He never learns anything and he's a whimp.

The early Squirrel Boy commercial featured a squirrel going upon it's natural business then a picture of Rodney will quickly flash with a high pitched voice saying "Squirrel Boy" then ending the commercials. Closer to the premiere of the show not including the sneak peek on May 27, 2006. The commercials still failed to make sense but they at least featured humans. It would also have the Cartoon Network announcer saying that Rodney J. Squirrel just raised the bar a little higher while showing shots of the great stuff Rodney could do.

- In the first episode, when the game Andy's playing is seen on the screen, the level looks identical to the game Pac-Man.
- Promotional spots and the official website give Rodney's full name as "Rodney J. Squirrel", a reference to the name of Rocky the Flying Squirrel from Rocky & Bullwinkle. His cousin Eddie is a flying squirrel who can fly just like Rocky, rather than glide.
- After the premiere of Squirrel Boy, they released a music video that featured clips of Andy and Rodney from the first few episodes. Using snipets of The Flaming Lips song The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song, the music video only lasted about 30 seconds and neither of the main characters had a singing part.
- The line "The hat sells the sandwich" could have been an idea inspired by the Arby's logo, which is a hat and the chain sells sandwiches.
- In "What's Sung is Sung", the Lord of the Sings karoke contest is an obvious parody of Lord of the Rings.
- The Hole In The Story episode obviously parodies Star Trek.
- In the episode "Andy Had a Little Squirrel", Andy is playing with 2 dogs. When Rodney sees them, he is jealous, and says he can do better then these Doggy Kongas. A reference to Donkey Konga.
- In "What's Sung is Sung", Rodney buys a yellow submarine. This is obviously a reference to the Beatles' song.
- In The Trojan Rabbit Andy and his Dad are playing a video game. The video game is actually pong,with the players changed to rabbits,and the ball a carrot.

- In "A Line in the Sandwich" when Andy and Rodney go back inside their outlines are twice as thick as usual.
- In "Flatbottoms Up", when Mrs. Flatbottom is pouring the "Peppermint Garlic Sponge Juice" into a glass, she poured two full glasses. In the next scene when she is giving it to Kyle and Salty Mike, the glasses were empty again and she had to pour it again.
- In "Screw Up On Aisle Six" when Rodney and Andy stop at the Nugget Nuggets you can see Mr. Johnson in the other aisle, but his shirt is green instead of yellow.

- Richard Horvitz voiced Dag on Nickelodeon's Angry Beavers. In an episode of the latter show, his character was stuck on an island in the middle of a highway, a role he gets to relive in episode 7 of Squirrel Boy. Also this episode concept was used in Nickelodeon's CatDog where CatDog was trapped on an island in a highway. Horvitz also voices the title character in Invader ZIM and Billy, and his dad Harold in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
- In "Scout's Dishonor", Andy tells Kyle about a melon cart race. This is a reference to the Squirrel Boy episode "Rolling Blunder", which aired after "Scout's Dishonor" making this a mistake in the episode.
- The character "Puggo" appears on a cutout in "The Big Haggle Hassle". Then, in the beginning of "Pool For Love," the character appears on television, then on a brand of several items in "Screw Up On Aisle Six".
- In "Wall of the Wild" and "Eddie or Not..." Rodney breaks Mr. Johnson's clown collection, but in "The Big Haggle Hassle", he has already broken it.
- Rodney misspells Andy as "Adny" several times in "Islands In The Street" when he sets up his signal flare, and "Birthday Boy" when he writes Andy's name with socks and when he writes "Happy Birthday Adny" on everyone's lawns. Rodney also apparently can't write, as he can only write scribblings.
- In "Up All Night", Andy's mom has a shirt promoting The Yellow Flash that reads "I've Been Flashed", which may refer to the act of flashing. Also, the episode title was also used in an episode of My Gym Partner's a Monkey.
- In "Screw Up on Aisle Six", when Rodney and Andy are at the Nugget Nuggets stand, notice when Rodney reads the sign that lists all of the Nugget Nuggets ingredients, one of the ingredients is "Muzquiz Extract". This is clearly a reference to the shows director, Raymie Muzquiz.
- In "The Greatest Schmo on Earth" Andy had a positive view of Eddie and Rodney had a negative view, but in "Eddie Or Not", it's the other way around.
