[edit] Route description
[edit] Dutchess County
NY 9G runs from Poughkeepsie to Hudson along the route of the decommissioned New York State Route 9F.
The highway starts at a junction with US 9 at Marist College and Saint Francis Hospital in the Dutchess County town of Poughkeepsie. NY 9G runs south on Washington Avenue to a junction with Parker Avenue in the city of Poughkeepsie, and turns northeast on Parker Avenue. The junction of Parker and Washington may also be the former northern end of NY 376.
NY 9G proceeds north on Parker Avenue in the city of Poughkeepsie, turning into Violet Avenue at the Poughkeepsie town line. It continues as Violet Avenue northwards to a junction with Dutchess County Route 41. This is the limit of urban development on the road. North of Dutchess County Route 41, NY 9G is a rural road with many junctions with Dutchess County routes.
East of Rhinebeck, there is an elevated junction with NY 308. Approximately 1½ miles north of the NY 308 junction, NY 9G crosses US 9. After another 1½ miles to the north of US 9, NY 9G meets NY 199 westbound. The two routes form a two mile concurrency north to Barrytown. At Barrytown, NY 199 leaves to the east for the Village of Red Hook while NY 9G continues north.
NY 9G passes Bard College to the northwest of the junction with NY 199 and also passes to the east of the village of Tivoli. Approximately 1½ miles north of Tivoli, NY 9G crosses into Columbia County.
[edit] Columbia County
In Columbia County, NY 9G passes through Germantown, and meets NY 23 at the eastern foot of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge in a highly channelized junction. NY 9G is concurrent with NY 23 for just less than 0.3 miles before leaving with NY 23B to the northeast for the city of Hudson. The two routes are duplexed from the NY 23 east junction to the US 9 junction in the City of Hudson, where the duplex and NY 9G ends.
