Generally, I'll reply here if you post here, so please watch this page if you want to see my reply. If I don't reply within a couple days on another page where you replied to one of my comments, feel free to drop a message here. I have over 5100 pages on my watchlist, so I don't always catch everything new. Thanks! ···日本穣 |
[edit] More DFs
Here are 20 more articles, including one that was from DF, it was just merged from one of his articles to a stub (which Mangojuice missed). I am on the last section, but am pretty busy IRL so I'm not sure how much longer this will take. Almost done with this mess though. (Then I might have time to help out LordAmeth with contributions here) Thanks! --Kuuzo 19:36, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Advice request
Hello, I am a somewhat new user and am in need of a bit of advice. I chose to ask you first due to your unbelievably awesome userboxes (of which I will be using more than just a few). My question is this: I am both a fan and hope some day to be contributer to the Japanese Railways Project, however on the AfD page here there is a debate about whether or not to keep a page about an American High School. Just wait there is a connection here. My problem is that If a high school with a attendance rate that can claim to to out-strip the English using customer base of a given small train station in Japan exponentially is up for deletion under non-notable, How can we avoid this same accusation? Is it because the Japanese train station Project is as a whole notable and therefore the smaller stations that have pages dedicated to them receive a kind of Proxy Notability? If this is the case could one make an "American High Schools" Project and thereby grant the same kind of Proxy Notability to any High School that fits their requirements? I hesitated to bring this up on the AfD page because I don't know the history behind this argument and I don't want to bring any unnecessary bad publicity to the Japanese Railway project by using it as an example. I have much less interest personally in High Schools than I do in JR but I see this as a weird kind of double standard, so I thought I should ask an Administrator who seems familiar with this kind of thing. Thank you for your time. よろしくお願いします。 Colincbn 03:34, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- The general consensus has been that since even most small stations have hundreds to thousands of people using them daily (with larger stations handling tens of thousands, even hundreds of thousands), they are definitely notable due to their importance to the local area. Even small stations attract many businesses around them to offer services to the daily passengers. This makes the stations an economic hub for any region it services. I think that's what makes them more notable than most schools. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 04:16, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

- Ok. Thanks for the speedy response. One more question I have is concerning translation of Japanese Wikipedia pages: If the reference material is mainly or solely in Japanese does that pose a problem? What is the standard policy on non-English sources? Colincbn 13:51, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
On a somewhat related note, I was looking for someone to help me with learning all the standards and whatnot for editing Japanese related articles. I already read the MoS for Japanese related articles but I sometimes still have questions. I looked into the adoption pages but there was no one there that mentioned being particularly well versed on the subject. Combined with the time zone difference I don't see adoption as a possibility (plus at my age it just seems weird). So I was wondering if you are not too busy if you would be able to help me out when I have questions in an unofficial capacity. Thanks, Colincbn 11:53, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] C.C.B. is M.I.A.
Say, why did you delete the entry on C.C. Banana? The Banana has been around for years and has done a bunch of noteworthy stuff. Lots of comedy interviews with famous rock & rollers and celebrities, including people like George Lucas and Twisted Sister. He's done interviews for Sirius Satellite Radio and was in one of those VH1 "40 Most" programs. C.C. might not be as famous as some other comedians but he's certainly on the map. Just Google his name, he's all over the place! I think the last thing I saw was an article about him in The East Coast Rocker back in December. I just don't understand how you could say that the guy's notability hasn't been asserted (or however you phrased it). Maybe you just didn't know. Do you think you could put him back? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.145.192.10 (talk • contribs).
- It hadn't been around for years, actually. It was created on 2006-09-02. It was deleted because there was no claim of notability which could be verified through reliable sources. Feel free to take it to Deletion review if you wish. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:54, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

- Um... I said that the BANANA had been around for years, not the Banana's ENTRY. It's misunderstandings like this that lead me to believe it was a misguided call to delete him. Regarding all those steps you just laid out in order for me to contest said deletion... I suppose this means you win, since I know I will not be able to find the time to read up on how they all work. Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 172.147.191.125 (talk • contribs).

- Sorry for misunderstanding your comment. As for me "winning," I don't care either way about the article. If you (or someone else, as you've indicated you don't care to take the time) can come up with multiple, un-related, reliable sources to use to establish notability, I'm fine with the article being recreated. So, have at it if you have the time. Otherwise, we'll have to wait for someone else to come along and create the article again. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 01:30, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trying to apply to be Admin
Hi. I noticed you reverted my reapplication to be an administrator. I applied a while ago and then pulled out when I realised I was not yet ready. I would like to reapply this time but do not know how to do it. What is the proper procedure to reapply to admin? --Anthony5429 15:52, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Please follow the directions on this page. Because it's your second nomination, you will need to change the username by adding a space and a "2" after your username in the Nominate yourself box: "Anthony5429 2" (without the quotes). This will create a separate page for this nomination. Be sure to include in your description a link to your previous nomination as well. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:03, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] In need of mediation
Hi, could you drop by Talk:X Japan and have a look at the most recent discussion? It has become quite heated and I find myself at a loss on how to proceed. - Cyrus XIII 00:33, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what to do either. I'll think on it for a while. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:59, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks, I appreciate that. These "is!/is not!" deadlock types of disputes are particularly frustrating, especially when civility takes a dive along the way (with one party being an administrator no less). - Cyrus XIII 10:58, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Wikipedia:WikiProject Japanese biography
While sorting through the top-importance articles, I noticed that Akira Kurosawa had gone missing. This led me to discover that an editor who was active for about two days at the beginning of December had gone through and altered a few dozen WPJ tags to link to a page he created at Wikipedia:WikiProject Japanese biography before disappearing again. This included altering tags on things like Aguni, Okinawa that weren't even people. I've fixed all of those changes, but I'm not quite sure what should be done about the abortive project page itself. I considered redirecting it, but maybe it's better to delete it. Thought I'd ask for your opinion before doing anything. Dekimasuよ! 11:34, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
- This also concerns the fate of Template:WikiProject Japanbio and Category:WikiProject Japanese biography articles, I should have noted. I have emptied the category back into WPJ and the template is now unused. Dekimasuよ! 11:47, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I was bold and deleted both the template and the category as we have no need of them. I also redirected the project to WP:JA as there's no need to have a separate project that's dead anyway. I'm fine if someone wants to create a task force that works on Japan-related biographies, though. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:41, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

- Thanks for the support position. However, I've decided to withdraw my acceptance because of real WP:CIVIL concerns. I will try again later when I've proven to myself and others that my anger will no longer interfere with my abilities as a Wikipedia editor. Thanks again, and I'll see you around here shortly. :) JuJube 04:18, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Deletion of Maccess Corporation entry
We're appealing your deletion of our entry in Wikipedia. How can this be a blatant advert when it is just a descriptive heading and a link to an archive of articles published in newspapers of public record in the Philippines?
We are currently reviewing materials to post under this entry and your sudden deletion does not help. We were precisely avoiding putting anything that could be considered advertorial, which is why there isn't much material yet.
If that entry was blatant advertising what do you think of these entries?
—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Maccess (talk • contribs).
- Well, even if it wasn't an advert (which it was), it would be non-notable. Blogs are not considered a reliable source, so a link to your blog doesn't count for anything. Also, it's generally considered bad form to write articles about companies to which you have a direct connection. Your username is a pretty clear indicator of a very close connection. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 08:20, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
