North Paravur (also Parur, Paravur taluk, Paravoor) is a city and a municipality in Ernakulam district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is an old and growing muncipality. Paravur is the capital of Paravur Taluk in Ernakulam district. The Paravur town is 17 km away from Edappally in city of Kochi.
Cherai beach is only 6 km from Paravur town. The coastal highway NH-17 Ernakulam - Manglore passes through this town. This town had been an old trading post and has a Jewish synagogue and had a thriving Jewish community before their resettlement in Israel after its establishment.Cochin Jews lived in the towns of Kochi, Ernakulam and North Paravur.
The various denominations of modern Saint Thomas Christians ascribe their unwritten tradition to the end of the 2nd century and believe that Thomas landed at Maliankara near Moothakunnam village in Paravur Taluk in AD 52.In AD 52 (St.Thomas) founded the churches popularly known as 'Ezharappallikal'.These churches are at Kodungallur, Kottakkayal (North Paravur), Kollam, Niranam, Nilackal (Chayal), Kokkamangalam, Palayoor (Chattukulangara) and Thiruvithamkode — the half church.
It is situated north end of Ernakulam district near at the end of Thrissur district. The towns in Thrissur district like Kodungallore,Mala,Chalakudy and the towns Kalamassery,Aluva,Angamaly,Vypin island are located near to this town.

KL-42 is the RTO code for ParavurTaluk,Vypin and North Paravur.There is a KSRTC Subdepot,PrivateLimitedStop busstand and a Private busstand in the town conducting services to all important places of Kerala.The nearest railway station is Aluva16 kms away.The Cochin International Airport at Nedumbassery is only 21kms away from the town.There is freqeent boats and ferry services in the near by rivers and lagoons.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Paravur had a population of 30,056. Males constitute 48% of the population and females 52%. Paravur has an average literacy rate of 84%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 84%. In Paravur, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
This town previously consisted of lots of Iyers. But many of them have migrated to other big cities like Mumbai.Of late, this town has been taken over by external forces like the Christian missionaries. Many efforts are put in by the Govt. to tackle the growing menace of Christian missionaries and Muslim fundamentalists in many such towns in Kerala.
