De Kwastsnoeken (Polypteridae) , ook wel Wimpelalen genaamd, is een familie van tropische Afrikaanse vissen, uit de familie kwastsnoeken, de enige familie binnen de orde kwastsnoeken (Polypteriformes). De tweedelige zwemblaas fungeert als een soort long; de vis komt met regelmatige tussenpozen aan de oppervlakte om lucht te happen. Kan hij dit niet dan verdrinkt hij binnen het uur, echter op het droge kan hij meer dan een etmaal verblijven. De orde/familie omvat 11 soorten.
