Orange Ekstraklasa is the official name of the Polish football premier league. "Orange" is the name of the main sponsor - Orange Polska.
The Ekstraklasa (former I liga) were formed as Liga Piłki Nożnej (LPN) March 1, 1927 in Warsaw, but Polish Championships as non-league competition and The Polish Football Federation PZPN (Polski Związek Piłki Nożnej) were formed December 20, 1919 in Warsaw, a year after the independence of Poland in 1918.
Currently Ekstraklasa has 16 teams. The winner automatically receives the Polish Championship title.
