[edit] Thanks for the feedback

I wanted to thank you again for your feedback in the kitsune peer review. I think I was able to improve the article significantly thanks to your suggestions. Shimeru 18:56, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks, Mate!

I really need some encouragement right now!

Well, I have yeilded and stuck in umpteen relatively pointless in-line references, just to make the point that I do read before I write. And while I was doing it I came across a nice little quotation so I stuck that in as well. If these guys knew that Banister Fletcher, Helen Gardner and Wim Swaan stacked one on top of each other weigh 10kilo and cost $300, they might think the references were weighty enough! Oh well, Back to work then! --Amandajm 02:50, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Outriggr,

About the sections that are in point form- There is a purpose to it. The solution is to put 8 or 9 small headings in each one of the subsections, which then shoots the contents down another metre. They are all short points which need to be kept seperate for the sake of clarity, because the aim is to make a comparison between the buildings of five counties. if you lump it all together as straight prose, then, in order to get the point across, everything must be verbbally referencced eg "The Italian cathedrals differed from the cathedrals of France Germany, England and Spain in that they were ... and tended to be... and were decorated ... and the sun shone... and their towers were.... The French Cathedrals differed from the cathedrals of Italy, Spain, France and England in that they were this and this and this and this and this. The Englis......blah blah blah. Itt's tedious, long winded and doesn't make comparison easy because the info gets lost in the prose. If I was simply trying to describe the buildings rather than use them as teaching tools, I'd write prose (or then again...poetry!) You see the problem. It depends upon how locked into style Wiki is, as against content and clarity. Thanks for the advice anyway!

[edit] == Truro, Nova Scotia and Longueuil, Quebec ==

If you change statistical data by recategorizing it into "racial make-up" or whatever that user did, he's creating "race-based" statistics which weren't collected by stats can. Stats can doesn't collect "racial" stats. The user also did things like group certain groups together as "asian" but without specifying what that meant, for instance, grouping "east indian" and "asian" separately, when India is part of Asia. He/she seems to have done it for specific racial (I'd say, racist, but that's my pov) reasons. - TheMightyQuill 08:01, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FAC

Sorry if I made a boo-boo. Tony 08:27, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

I did correct my assertions, didn't I? Please let me know if I didn't. Tony 11:06, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

You did. My intuition tells me it's not that simple, but there is nothing productive I can say, so I'll rest. –Outriggr § 00:04, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ANH FAC

Hey, it's alright. I can kind Tony's comments somewhat overly confrontational at times, but that doesn't mean he's wrong. I hope you can check up with the article in the next few days and see if you can support. Thanks for your comments. :) The Filmaker 03:27, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

I think that's where we differ, then: he was obviously and explicitly wrong, in this case. I expect anyone, most especially a detail-oriented FAC regular, to put in some due diligence before accusing other users of blatant rule breaching, and imploring others to ignore their comments. So, if the question is, can I assume good faith here? The answer seems to be no. OK, my last comment on this, I swear. :) Cheers, –Outriggr § 03:39, 27 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Minnesota

It definitely gets that cold here, but it looks like most of our cold air comes from where you are at. Check out Climate_of_Minnesota esp the "Alberta clippers" section. Thanks for the edits! :) - 04:02, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

I heave been hearing about this "Arctic air" for a few days now, the rain we are getting now was supposed to turn into snow but no luck so far. I love icefishing so I'm just waiting for everything to freeze up. I really appreciate your copy editing, no hurry, we haven't had any opposes yet on the FA nom so I am guessing you are just taking an FA quality article and making it FA++. Again really appreciated, next time you need help with an article I'm your guy. -Ravedave (help name my baby) 04:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Wow I didn't think you'd do that much copy editing, it's really appreciated!! Can you drop a vote over at Wikipedia:Featured_article_candidates/Minnesota? For some reason the article has not been getting many responses. If you ever need anything like a review etc feel free to ask! -Ravedave (help name my baby) 04:28, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Glad to help - I haven't been asked that often. But, I have a thing with FAC, and at this time I prefer not to get mixed up in it. If I helped the article become an FA, that's good enough for me. Especially the first U.S. state FA! I think the votes will pick up, and the only objections I can imagine are to get rid of the one-sentence paragraphs; and to look at the flow of the "Geology and terrain" section, making sure info isn't repeated. –Outriggr § 04:48, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Order of the Garter

Can I ask you to have a quick run through this article? It is an FA created by Lord Emsworth who is no longer active, and it was put up for review. It's had a lot of work done on it and is close to being saved, but a copy edit by an involved editor would be handy (see Tony's comments). Thanks, Yomanganitalk 09:27, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

All the changes look fine (apart from a couple of agreements which I changed). Calling it the oldest order is debatable as there are older orders which have been revived, so it could be said that they are older, but anybody who wants to argue that already knows enough on the subject not to be reading the article anyway! Thanks for sparing the time to go through it. Yomanganitalk 00:39, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FAC

Thanks for your note. I have to admit I was briefly tempted to take up the issue at the criteria page because I feel that by eliding the issue of content, an important aspect of FA is lost. I own that there probably many featured articles that would not pass my standard, and I am happy that there is a diversity of opinion. But the fact that subject matter is somehow off-bounds (non-actionable) strikes me as ridiculous. If you are interested we could perhaps marshal up a plan to make an argument for this. Thanks for all of the work and help on the Military Brat article. Balloonman 16:18, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Outriggr, I was told that you are really good copy editor. I have an article up for FAC and one of the concerns is that the article may need to be copy edited. I was hoping that you might be able to take a look at it? Copyediting is my biggest weakness. Thanks. (I'll watch your page and the brat talk page for a response.)Balloonman 19:50, 4 December 2006 (UTC)

thanks for your assistance... Your edits were definate improvements. Of the two proposals you made, I kept one and rejected the other. I think it is important to point out that non-military families may have some of the categories, but that it is the fact that military families share most of these characteristics AND the experience. The other one (about fictional characters) was originally posted by an anonymous poster, and I was trying to keep their contribution out of respect... but I have no problem killing it. Anything more is appreciated... as is what you've already done.Balloonman
Your assistance really is appreciated. Balloonman 16:18, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Serial Experiments Lain

Hi Outiggr. I understand you have several similar queries at the moment, but I would love it if you could have a quick glance at the Serial Experiments Lain article that is going through FAC right now. Criterion 1a seems to be the main issue by now, and judging from your previous work you seem like just the person to push it through. Thanks for reaing!--SidiLemine 11:03, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] For the record....

"In most cases, simply follow the usual rules of English punctuation. A few points where Wikipedia may differ from usual usage follow."

As far as standard punctuation, the rule I quoted is absolutely correct. Only Wikipedia (and this is the first I've heard of that) makes a point of departing from traditional American English rules of punctuation. --ScreaminEagle 01:00, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Indeed. I guess I'm lucky w.r.t. Wikipedia, because I have no taste for punctuation inside quotes! Illogical, I say, except in the "full-sentence" quoting talked about in the Manual of Style. –Outriggr § 01:05, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] FA feedback request

  • I saw you listed yourself at WP:1FAPQ, so I'm sure you get many of these, but I was hoping you could take a look at Sasha (DJ) and tell me what you think of the language/wording/etc. Its failed FA twice so far - the second time for still needing a copyedit - so I was hoping you could take a look at it and tell me if the prose is up to FA standards now. Wickethewok 18:34, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rodin

You are making a welcome and substantial contribution in upgrading Rodin, and I'm glad if I can add a little something now and then. Sometimes I get a bit overzealous in my editing in general, especially when there are difficult circumstances in non-Wikipedia life, so it's probably good for me to back away, at least for a few days. Keep up the fine work, JNW 11:52, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] (Another!) Request for copyedit

Any chance you could run a copyediting eye over Brabham (It's a defunct Formula One racing team)? I've got it on WP:FAC and while I've got support from the Formula One editing community, and user:SandyGeorgia is happy with it structurally, I've not yet got any feedback on the writing. I can think of several things that are probably wrong with it, but am now finding it difficult to decide in what direction to go, so an outside eye would be very much appreciated. If you are happy to do this, it would probably be best to put any comments you have on the article talk page, to avoid overloading the FAC page. Hope you can help. 4u1e 16:25, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Any advice you can offer will be gratefully received. I'm in an odd situation here, in that no-one has actually raised the quality of the writing as an issue at the FAC. I've noticed a tendency for FAC reviewers not to approach this topic with any great enthusiasm for F1 articles (and possibly for all sports articles?) so I'm soliciting extra views. I tend to agree with Sandy's analysis, and believe that I can improve the writing, but it will be quicker (and better!) with the aid of someone practiced at copyediting, but also fresh to the topic. Anyway - if you can help:great. If you can't, or not soon, it doesn't currently look like it will result in the article's failure (although Tony doesn't seem to have had a look at it yet!), so don't feel bad about it. Cheers. 4u1e 08:20, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for the work on the lead/lede! No misunderstandings on meaning. Customer as in 'for sale to customers' - Modern F1 teams are not allowed to do this, but it was a big feature of F1 life in the 1950s and 1960s. Indy and the F2 and F3 championships were in the 1960s - I'm trying to think of way of adding it without just repeating 'In the 1960s'. Cheers. 4u1e 08:47, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Gosh - that came up faster than I expected! Thanks for your help on the lead - good work. Cheers. 4u1e 20:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Computer

Heh, I appreciate the sentiment. To be honest, I didn't really expect Computer to pass considering how the FAC climate has turned these past few months. I'm hoping that the fad will blow over, otherwise we're going to have to start delisting a lot of FAs (including the two I've written). -- mattb @ 2006-12-14T03:38Z

Yup, I agree. With the way WP:V is currently being interpreted on FAC, I suspect there will be a lot of Pokemon and Stephen Colbert at the 2006 White House Correspondents' Association Dinner (I still can't believe this latter one) FAs from here on out. Not that verifiability is a bad thing at all, but it's downright burdensome to expect references for everything (heck, peer-reviewed journal articles don't have to cite sources this heavily). I think somewhere along the line we decided to forget that many eyes on an article tends to smooth out any factual errors and suddenly decide that the process that has worked up until now and that makes Wikipedia unique should be thrown out. I usually just take a long editing break when a new crazy policy has come into vogue, maybe it's time to do that again... I think I'll nominate my FAs for delisting first, though. I'd rather do it myself than see some other chicken little scream "UNVERIFIED". (can you tell I'm frustrated with all this? :) Anyway, I could rant and rant about this, but it won't change a thing. It'll either settle down or turn FA into a big ugly joke. In the latter case I'll probably retire my aspirations of writing FAs, and in the former I'll be happily nominating articles at some future date. -- mattb @ 2006-12-14T04:10Z
No, of course you didn't have any influence. I was contemplating this anyway. I consider it my own form of mild form of protest with regards to the insanity of current FA standards. If an article promoted just a few months ago no longer qualifies because the standards have changed that radically, I see a problem. However, even if nobody else sees it, I don't want my articles called "featured" if other articles of similar quality can no longer cut the mustard. Plus, as I mentioned, I'd rather nominate it for de-listing myself than wait for some roving WP:V enforcer to find it. So don't fret, nothing you did has radically altered my perceptions of the FA process, WP:V, or Wikipedia in general. :) -- mattb @ 2006-12-15T03:22Z

[edit] Scouting FAC

Hi. I know you as a helpful and skilled prose editor and was wondering if you would look at this FAC. It is now 2nd from bottom of the list and while it has had much improvement done to it during the FAC, it may still benefit from some prose editing, which seems to be the biggest concern before. Thank you for any help and Merry Christmas! Sumoeagle179 18:40, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

I've merged the info at the beginning of the History section into the subsections. It's important not to remove the Girl Guide info as it's a part of Scouting and some/many GG/Girl Scouts feel left out if they aren't mentioned. Thanks for this and all help. Hi BallǪǪnman! Assuming you are submitting it to FAC soon, when do you plan to do so? Are you waiting for a copy-edit? If so, good, because it's always a good idea to have it done before FAC submission (commentators will still rip apart the writing, but one rolls with the punches, I guess). [edit] DYK

First, thanks for picking two of my articles :). I think the advantage of moving them out of the main noms page is that the updating admin (whose interests I have at heart for some reason) doesn't have to go back and sort through the list to remove them once the update is done, and we avoid having any chance of crossover on the next update. On the rare occasions we have to move them back it is fairly easy. Couple of other points: the creator and nominator need crediting in the credits section at the bottom, so the updater can tag up the pages appropriately; and we put the nom with the picture credit at the top (don't know why, now that I think about it, but it seems to be tradition). Hello. You don't know me, but on the FARC page for the above article, User:SandyGeorgia recommened you as a user who might possibly be able to go over the prose of this article and point out where and how it needs further work? If you could possibly spare the time to give it a look, I'd be very grateful. Thanks! Angmering 23:34, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Second that - hat in hand :-) - Angmering has done a lot of work on the refs, and if someone could evaluate his prose, the article could keep its star. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:39, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Many, many thanks for going through this — exceptionally kind of you! Angmering 07:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, I certainly appreciate your efforts, and I thought that you definitely improved the article. I suppose you can't please all the people all the time! But thank you again for taking the time and trouble to go over it — it was very kind of you, and I realise how many requests for this sort of assistance you must get. Astonishingly, I am told there are people in this world who somehow don't find the history of British television science-fiction programmes completely fascinating, so I appreciate you wading through the article! ;-) All good wishes. [edit] Rodin

Excellent work - I just read it after I reverted some vandalism there, and then saw you had it listed at WP:1FAPQ. This is a useful doc if you haven't seen it [1]. One point: Rodin's sister Maria, two years his senior, died in a convent in 1862. She had been in love with an unfaithful suitor who she met through Rodin, causing her brother much guilt - doesn't make much sense to me: if she committed suicide I could see why he might feel guilty, but I've never seen anything on how she died, just that Rodin was distraught after her death. If you have sources that give more info on that I think they would be good additions. I have some photos from the museum somewhere, but the article seems pretty flush on images, so I doubt you'll need them. Drop me a note if you want a picture of any particular piece and I'll have a look and see if I have one. Yomanganitalk 18:02, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

OK, I'll see what I can do. I realised after I left you the note that I have no idea where the photos are, so I'll have to get the head torch on and venture into the attic. I know I have some good photos in the bunch (wherever they are) as the museum was almost empty last time I went. Yomanganitalk 01:33, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
The pictures aren't as good as I thought (I have a decent one of the Gates of Hell, but it's no better than the one you already have). However, there are a lot of CC licensed images on Flikr: [2]. Yomanganitalk 11:54, 6 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Download time calculations

Hey, Outriggr, remember that download time calculation thingie you did on B-movie? Can you look at this and try to put some sense to it? It has about the same prose size as B movie (which is why I'm objecting), about the same size in refs, but double the image size of B movie. My point is that even if the images are reduced, download time is still prohibitive for half of the world. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] B Rating on Auguste Rodin

Outriggr - until the Rodin article is submitted for GA or FA (which it should certainly be - you've been doing great work), by the standards of WikiProject:Biography it rates a B. It is inappropriate to simply remove the assessment becuase you disagree - especially since the new assessment was a higher rating than previously. This gradual increase in rating is exactly what is supposed to happen as an article is being improved. As soon as it achieves GA or FA, I would be happy to do the re-assessment myself. Mocko13 02:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

What are the standards of Wikiproject:Biography? They appear to include grades like "GA", "A", and "FA", as shown at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Biography/Assessment. Are you unilaterally unable to assign an article a grade above "B"? If you are assigning an article that is obviously above "B" as a "B", how in any sense can you claim to have rated it? It's as equally inappropriate to assign ratings that aren't relevant. Now, if you tell me that an individual WPBio rater can't assign an article above "B", at least I won't take it so personally, but I'm still left with the difficulty that the system makes no sense to me. Now I'll put the "B" back on if you haven't, as I have to learn to deal with that which makes me cringe. –Outriggr § 02:26, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ToK article

Thanks for wikifying the Tree of Knowledge System article. It looks nice. However, I was curious to know why you removed the ToK diagram. It's a rather important part of the ToK System. Have a good one. EPM 18:36, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry. I just realized the image was never uploaded! How do I get the image from here to here? EPM 18:54, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Uploaded ToK image

  • Hi Outriggr. I uploaded the ToK image and put it on the Tree of Knowledge System page. I wanted to check to see if I did it by the book. EPM 17:37, 20 February 2007 (UTC)
    • Thanks for your response. They didn't waste any time deleting the ToK image! The person who owns the image is Gregg Henriques. I sent him an e-mail asking if I could use it on Wikipedia, but I hadn't asked specifically for GFDL. I uploaded the image with the licensing selection that stated that I was given permission to use the image only on Wikipedia, but as I now realize that wasn't sufficient. Oh well...live and learn! I've sent Gregg another e-mail asking if uploading it under GFDL would be OK. (Who knows...maybe he'll want to help bring the article up to "A" staus!) Again, thanks for getting back to me. [edit] Do you have a ref-fix tool?

Wow, you're frigging ace! Not that I'm stalking you (more stalking Vitamin C), can I ask how did you do this? Did you use a tool? Cos I must have this tool, I've wasted hours fixing references when you made that look so effortless... Looking forward to your response! *not a stalker* Jack · talk · 05:07, Wednesday, 21 February 2007

Hi Jack. Yup, the ref fixer is found here: User:Gimmetrow/fixRefs.js. Look at my page User:Outriggr/monobook.js to see how to add it. At the bottom, see the three sections that look similar? Copy the first two into your own User:Jrockley/monobook.js, do a complete browser reload, and when you edit a page you'll see a new item in the "toolbox" called .... "fix reference marks" or something. Let me know if you need more detailed directions. :) –Outriggr § 05:25, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
Erm, I have something that looks like this: {{DEFAULTSORT:}} now under wikimarkup, though I'm not sure if it wasn't there before... Did I put the code in right? How do I work it? Jack · talk · 06:04, Wednesday, 21 February 2007
Your monobook.js page looks fine. You might want to close and reopen your browser. That will force a download of the .js files. The toolbox I'm referring to is the white one on the left of the screen (unless you're into Hebrew). On any Edit screen you'll see "Fix reference marks" as the last entry in the toolbox. If that doesn't help, I'll come help if you buy me a ticket to the UK. –Outriggr § 06:27, 21 February 2007 (UTC)

For your good work in producing a high quality assesment script, I present you with the Da Vinci Barnstar of programming. Tarret 15:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

Very nice. However, I've found a few bugs... Titoxd(?!?) 05:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I saw. It works awesome. It really helps out a lot to see which articles have been assessed, both while reviewing articles, as well as when reading the encyclopedia as a reference. It really is a great tool. Titoxd(?!?) 07:28, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I should say that its a very useful tool. Might I suggest advertising it in the community portal and adding it to WP:TOOLS so other users might know about this great tool. Also, have a barnstar for this good work. Tarret 15:34, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

The script does work very nicely. However, a bug has been affecting me in the old internet explorer, IE6 (it works fine in Firefox, and i have yet to check it in IE7). It seems to conflict with the popups javascript, in that the background color of the popups appears clear instead of the normal tannish (what I mean is, it just seems to write the popup text over the page text). It makes it harder to read, but it still works fine. Just letting you know for your benefit. Otherwise, great tool! -RunningOnBrains 21:04, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
I just checked the popups on IE7...the bug is still present, you may want to look into that. -RunningOnBrains 00:36, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
I actually ended up just using someone else's monobook, since apprently that wasn't the only script I had problems with. Now that I can use it it looks great, thanks for creating it.--Wizardman 05:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your amazing script man, this makes things so much easier! Good job! Smomo 18:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Assesment bugs

If a page belongs to two projects, like Wikiproject Biography and Wikiproject Military History, and one has a rating while the other doesn't, if you attempt to rate the unrated one, it gets rid of the one already rated. American Patriot 1776 23:30, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Strange, it seems to have shaken itself away.... American Patriot 1776 19:22, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

The script currently flags up Featured Lists as being "A Featured Article from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia". Tompw (talk) 23:47, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. It's been updated to recognize a featured list now. –Outriggr § 01:08, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Nope, still showing as "Featured Article" :-( Tompw (talk) 12:02, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I think your local copy of the script was out of date. Do a ctrl-shift-R in Firefox or ctrl-F5 in IE to reload the script pages. –Outriggr § 01:39, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] assess. script (copied from here)

I've updated this with more WPBiography action. Give it a try (refresh your page cache if necessary). I am not going to create a bunch of strings, which was one of your suggestions, but the new version should come closer to what you're requesting. –Outriggr § 05:49, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Your assessment script no longer appears on an article page and I get the message "Done, but with errors" as the page is loaded. The same occurs even after I hit F5. -- Jreferee 16:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
sorry to hear. I'm confused as it seems to be working for other people. Are you using Internet Explorer 6? –Outriggr § 19:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm using Internet Explorer 7. I also just turned on " Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" in my preferences, which was working and now is not. I also just copied User_talk:Jreferee#My_monobook RHB's monobook into my own monobook. Would you mind looking over my User:Jreferee/monobook.js to see if its coded correctly? Thanks. -- Jreferee 19:57, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I reverted my monobook.js and your script now works. Fantastic improvements! -- Jreferee 00:43, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Glad to hear. It works fine for me in IE7. I think there is some conflict with other scipts going on in some people's monobooks that I will have to look into eventually. You could try experimenting with your monobook to see exactly which script, if present, causes this one not to work. I found that the prose size script seemed to conflict, for example. I haven't researched it any further. –Outriggr § 01:39, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] IE7 problem

I'm also encountering a problem in IE7, although it's different from the other one I mentioned to you, more on that in a moment. In this case, when I try to select a project from the drop-down list, I get a script error. IE reports the error as: 'templateCodeArray[...]' is null or not an object (if that helps). The other problem was occurring in Safari - I'll get back to you on the version number when I get home. Carom 20:25, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

You may want to try commenting out certain scripts in monobook.js until you find a point where this script works. (Base case: no other scripts in monobook, then add some back.) If people can let me know which script does not cooperate with mine, I'll have something to work with. As above, it works in IE7 for me and for Jreferee. –Outriggr § 01:39, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Umph. I still get the same error message when your script is the only one in my monobook - it's possible that the problem is not with the script, but rather at my end, although I can't imagine what it might be. Carom 01:56, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
Call me crazy, but would you download Firefox, load up Wikipedia, and see how she looks? :) (I'm serious tho.) Did you say you got a specific error message in the little red box at the bottom left? Oh, there it is up above. I could try changing the way the array is represented but that seems weird. –Outriggr § 02:01, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
I'll give that a try tomorrow when I get back to work. I should also point out that if I set a default Project in my monobook, I can still assess articles with that banner, I just can't change the project banner that I want to use. Carom 02:14, 8 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, both the problems I've mentioned to you seem to have gone away on their own, so I'm not entirely sure what was causing them. Also, the additional milhist parameters seem to be working just fine. Thanks!Carom 03:54, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: WPCHINA for script

Thanks so much for adding support for WPCHINA so quickly! I have already tried it, and it works like a charm. Honestly, both the WikiProject China and WPCHINA names get used. Generally speaking, people using AWB or something like that to add project tags automatically end up using the longer name, and those assessing by hand use WPCHINA because it is shorter. For now, just leave it the way it is, and we will all try to be smart about our assessments. If and when support for two names is coded in, we can eliminate this problem, but it is not a big deal.

As for the issue of further extended parameters, I was actually referring specifically to importance with the comment. Sorry, I probably should have been more clear. As far as I am concerned, you don't really need to add any more parameters at this time. Thanks again.--Danaman5 06:30, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WPBiography

I don't know what you did (or even if it was you) to the WPBiography assessment script, but thank you! Now that I can add it to another project I feel much more confident in sending it on its way to development. --Ozgod 05:01, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

By development, I meant the process in getting the article developed - as many stand at Stub right now - my hope is to get as many articles to B,GA,A - ideally FAC class. While I do not think every member of the WPBiography project can focus on all articles and help develop and expand them, tagging them to alternate projects to make them aware of is extremely helpful (i.e. adding it to the MILHIST project or A&E workgroup for them to be aware and possibly expand upon). Thank you for adding these fields! Will it be possible to include dropdowns for Living/Infobox Needed/Picture Needed? Again, thank you! --Ozgod 05:09, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Two questions

  1. Is it possible to have your article rating displayer list if an article is on peer review or FAR?
  2. Is their a template for only ratings or do those have to be tied in to Wikiproject Templates?

The Placebo Effect 21:19, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Torchic isn't showing up as a FARC. What I mean (for part 2) is, if an article isn't part of a project, is their a generic template. The Placebo Effect 00:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rating script

Yes, thanks! What would I add to make WP:Biography the default project and say.. Stub the default rating (since a big piece of these articles I'm rating are stubs)? Staxringold talkcontribs 00:03, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Thanks again!
  • Oh, yes, I saw! It is exactly what I was thinking about. However, there is a weird bug with importance, at least on hurricane articles. It throws a javascript error on my browser (IE 6.0.2900.2180, WinXP Pro, at least where I am at now). Thanks, though. It is really nifty. Titoxd(?!? - cool stuff) 00:17, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: assessment

I tried moving the script to a higher place in my monobook.js file but that did not resolve the issue. I'll try blanking it and just leave your script. I'm using the latest version of Firefox but it also did not work for me in IE6. I've done the reload several times. Thanks for the tips.↔NMajdantalk 20:46, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, its something in my monobook file. Deleting everything and just having your script worked so now I have to figure out what is interfering. Really weird; I know it worked fine before you revision a couple days ago.↔NMajdantalk 13:27, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Ok, after many attempts, I finally fixed your script in my monobook.js file. Apparently, it is conflicting with Voice of All's History analyzer script.↔NMajdantalk 14:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Last push for the Biography Assessment Drive

We've done great work so far on the WikiProject Biography Spring 2007 Assessment Drive, reducing the 135,345 backlog by 38,626 to 96,719 as of March 20, 2007. We have only 6,720 more to go to get below 90,000. That would be outstanding and any extra effort that you can offer in these last few days of the drive (which ends March 24, 2007) would be much appreciated. If you haven't already, you may want to load Outriggr's assessment script in your monobook.js. If you have any questions, please feel free to post them on my talk page. -- Jreferee 23:19, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Metadatatest.js problems

My Metadatatest.js stopped working yesterday. I use Internet Explorer, but also have Firefox installed. My Firefox up dated yesterday with I don't know what. I'm not sure whether my Metadatatest.js stopped working before or after Firefox updated. I'm willing to uninstall Firefox if you think that will fix the problem. Time's ticking away on the assessment drive, so any help you can give would be appreciated. -- Jreferee 03:25, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Very strange (I received another report just a minute before yours). What version is your Firefox at? Mine is 2.0.0.3. I did make some changes yesterday but they were minor. Can you look at the Javascript console (Tools/Error Console) and look for any red X's (errors) towards the bottom, just after you load any article page? (It may help to press "Clear" before loading the page.) The error messages are very helpful. It is definitely working for others, including me, because I see some edits on "Recent changes" right now. –Outriggr § 03:31, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
OK, this is odd. The script is working with my Firefox 2.0.0.3, but not my Internet Explorer. Eariler today I was getting a page load error message with Internet Explorer but am not even getting that now. My Firefox Javascript console is blank. I'm not sure how to press "Clear". -- Jreferee 03:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unwatched pages

Oops, I didn't realize that. Thanks for letting me know!

There's actually a very good reason for it - vandals would otherwise overwhelm those pages. It's unfortunate that many established editors are thus prevented from accessing the list, though. Xiner (talk, a promise) 02:10, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

That is true, but don't you think vandals would visit the thousands-pages long list as their first stop? Xiner (talk, a promise) 02:22, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
