Palkia (パルキア Parukia?) is one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Palkia is famous for being one of the Pokémon revealed before the Japanese release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as the Pokémon who adorns the box-art of Pokémon Pearl (see also Dialga). The purpose of Palkia in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
The first part of Palkia's name is derived from the Japanese transliteration of the English word pearl (パール pāru?). The latter portion may be in reference to its cry and the Japanese onomatopoeia connoting a loud scream (ぎゃあ gyaa?).

[edit] Biological characteristics
Palkia is shaped like a dinosaur and a dragon-like creature. Its skin is a pearly pink color. It has discs on its arms at the point where the arms meet the shoulders. Protruding from these discs are large fuchsia pearl-like orbs. It has a long tail, and violet lines run from the tip of its head to the tip of its tail. It has wing-like protrusions from its shoulders. Palkia's forearms show a striking resemblence to the "fan" weapon used in Super Smash Brothers and its sequel, Super Smash Brothers Melee. Palkia is able to manipulate space, possibly being able to warp dimensions, which makes it a target for Team Galactic.
Both Palkia and Dialga have distinctive features that represent the game in which they are featured. Palkia's shoulder ornaments look like pearls, which represent the Pearl version.
[edit] In the video games
Palkia's type setup is Water/Dragon. It is one of two Pokémon of this particular match up, the other being Kingdra from Generation II.
Given its typing of Water/Dragon, Palkia can learn many Water-, Ice- and Dragon-type moves. Also, it can learn a large variety of moves of many different types, much like many other Legendary Pokémon.
Palkia also has a "signature move", introduced in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, called Space Break; it is a Dragon-type move with 95 accuracy, and a high critical hit ratio, which could be seen as a Dragon-type version of Lugia's Flying-type move Aeroblast, although instead of a beam it slashes through space.
Palkia has a higher Special Defense and Speed than Dialga, but lower Hit Points (HP) and Defense.
It can be fought and captured in Pokémon Pearl only, after defeating the head of Team Galactic.
