"Promise of a New Day" is the second single from American artist Paula Abdul's album Spellbound.

The song hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on September 14, 1991. It became Abdul's sixth number one single and also sixth number one single in a row. It is also her last number one single to date.
The track is a fresh pop/dance song that also opened up the album being the first track.

The popular music video of the song was shot in front of a green screen of footage shot in Hawaii since Abdul had a busy schedule at the time the background footage shot in Hawaii was shot without her. She shot her scenes in front of the green screen and they were edited into the video.
Abdul has said she had spent a whole day shooting the video for just the part where she was in the water she said she got a cold after spending so much time in the pool shooting the scene. Abdul also has stated that during one of the dance sequences, she fell. She did not suffer any injury, but embarassment, as she was in a very short skirt during the spill.
There was a controversy with the video because the video was "pinched" and many speculated this was to make Abdul look thinner because she gained a little weight. On Pop Up Video, VH1 secured that it was actually make the dancers appear closer together.
