- My Telephone articles are appreciated.
- Don't add more future history articles, they've been voted for deletion before.

- I didn't know about the test partition
- I was attempting to reproduce a bug in Wikipedia. It is reproducible.
-
- No problem, Rfc, and thanks for helping with the bug hunting process.—Eloquence
- I believe the bug you are looking at has been discussed before (in fact I pointed it out too a while back). Sections get counted also if you put one inside comments -- that's how I encountered it). You only need the sandbox to test this. Dori | Talk 00:44, Dec 20, 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Public Utilities
Hi! Can you take a peek at what I made of lists of public utilities? Normally stuff is not capitalized, and it's good to add stuff in such a way that it's not focused on one specific continent. Tables make adding stuff a bit inconvenient for most people.
For the rest: keep up the good work! :) Guaka 00:12, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Movie links
Hi. I've noticed that you have added a particular bar of links to the bottom of a lot of movie articles. Is this part of a WikiProject? Have you discussed this with anyone anywhere? It would be nice is we could discuss the form of it first before you start mass-changing zillions of articles. In particular, I object to the hr, and to the use of "See also" as a non-heading. -- Timwi 06:56, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
- Hi 1394, this is exactly what I wanted to ask you. I'll have a look if your answer is on Timwi's user page. All the best, --KF 10:01, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)
-
- Okay, I've just read your answer at User talk:Timwi#Movie Articles. It's really just minor things I personally don't like: Why See Also rather than See also? And why a reference to a list of documentaries (which doesn't even exist)? --KF 10:07, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Electric Power Transmission
I deleted the following from the article on electric power transmission:
"In cities it is sent over wooden poles usually known as telephone poles, or buried underground in pipes or a occasional connection room called a vault, which is accessible through an access point called a manhole."
You seem to be confusing high voltage transmission with low voltage electricity distribution. Telephone poles would not normally be used for power distribution due to the technical requirements for electricity being more severe. You might sometimes get a telephone line being strung under a power line. Tiles 22:29, 21 Dec 2003 (UTC)
Hello. In overpass, you used too many capital letters, in one case linking to a redirect page ("Interstate Highway") rather than to the page it points to ("interstate highway" with a lower-case "h"). The first letter of the name of an article is case-insensitive; the others are case-sensitive. Wikipedia articles do not typically use capitals in article titles without specific reasons. [edit] Nylon, village pump & paper (image)
Thanks for your comments on nylon. See Talk:nylon for a discussion of its trademark status.
You also left comments on my talk page about a question at the Village Pump. It wasn't me that left that question.
Finally you also left comments about paper (image); was that directed at me?

[edit] Sepia
Hello. I moved your sepia entry to sepia tone since there are four distinct meanings for the word "sepia". I created a disambiguation page in its stead. Davodd 00:25, Dec 24, 2003 (UTC)
[edit] Pointers
I reverted your copy and paste of Paul Simon. Page moves can should only be done using the "move this page" function on your left hand menu bar. Please also copy the redirect command to the summary field when making a redirect. --Jiang 22:54, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
[edit] In Use msg
The "In Use" msg you created is useful in concept, effective in implementation (i.e., eye-catching), and pleasant to look at. I guess that's a hat trick; bravo. --Jerzy 09:12, 2004 Jan 12 (UTC)
- My Comment
- I wish I could take credit for the 'revised edition'; I thought of the Inuse message because there were times when I was changing a page which required several minutes to do (for example, check out the List of television stations in USA by Call Sign and if I'm putting all of the entries for, say, California in from the current list by states, that's going to take a while. If someone else comes in and changes the list (for Colorado for example) while I'm doing an edit as well, then my work is wasted or at least I have to now go in and re-edit to include their changes, since the list is in alphabetical order. In this sort of circumstance I don't really want to put a few entries in, save it, then put more in, and so on, I'd prefer to put all of them in as one batch.
- What someone else did was, they came along, rewrote the inuse message and inserted the banners. A distinct improvement to what I had done and a really great change. I wish I had thought of it.

[edit] Transparency in Interstate logo

[edit] inuse FUBAR?
Hi Paul, this is what I'm getting when using — looks like it got FUBAR:
inuse |
This is what the wiki custom message should output:
<table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" id="inuseMessage"> <tr> <td> <p class="messageHeader">Note</p> <p class="messageText">This article is currently undergoing a major edit.</p> <p class="messageText">As a courtesy, please do not make edits to this article until this message is removed to avoid edit conflicts.</p> </td> </tr> </table> |
Where "edit conflicts" points to Wikipedia:Edit conflicts (I don't know how you code this).
In the standard Wikipedia skin, the message should look something like:
Note This article is currently undergoing a major edit. As a courtesy, please do not make edits to this article until this message is removed to avoid edit conflicts. |
In order to do that, wikistandard.css should have the following styles added:
/* Custom messages */ /* inuse custom message */ #inuseMessage { background-color: #D2FFD2; border: medium dashed #FF0000; padding: .6em; width: 50%; position: relative; left: 25%; } #inuseMessage p.messageHeader { text-transform: uppercase; font-weight: bold; text-align: center; } #inuseMessage p.messageText { font-size: smaller; } |
I guess you can put the custom messages stylesheets on a different file and make that wikistandard.css inherit them. I really don't know where this source is located, nor do I have the access to edit it. :p
Take care and thanks for your contributions,
--Maio 06:28, Feb 5, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Interstate 66 810x210 .jpg. I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? [edit] Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Movie reviews
What does "Capsule review of the movie by William Robinson:" mean, and why are you putting it on several different articles? Are these your reviews, or are you copying them from someplace else? RickK 06:25, Jan 24, 2005 (UTC)
- William Robinson is my brother, I'm thinking of creating a separate username for him.
1-We don't sign our edits.
- That's your decision. This is why some people mistrust Wikipedia because of the lack of provence as to who is responsible for an article. Are you ashamed to admit who wrote something? Many people who see the programs I have written are surprised to find I sign my code. I'm proud of what I do. So is my brother.
- Further, at the bottom of the editing page one of the instructions says 'cite your sources.' So now you are saying I should not do what the very editing instructions say is critically important? O:)
- Beyond this, it allows me to 'frame' a short review separate from the main text of a larger overview of a film so someone can get an idea of the film or understand it better. Consider the three versions release of a paper encyclopedia (who's name escapes me) that was released a few decades ago; a full-blown comprehensive multi-volume set, a shorter abridged set, and a one-volume very short overview of everything. This may be a start in going toward that direction. It is the sort of thing that might make Wikipedia more useful.
2-Has your brother released this info to GFDL? RickK 20:37, Jan 25, 2005 (UTC)
- I said I was going to put his reviews up on the Internet. He said that was ok.

[edit] Arlington article
I have edited the Arlington County, Virginia article because I felt your recent addition about Fairfax County and Fairfax City was factually wrong and (unintentionally I am sure) would be misleading. [edit] Google Maps links
Is there a reason you've been adding Google Maps links to articles for locations? coor d exists to give a link to not just a map site that won't work in all browsers but also others. To find lat/long, use TerraServer-USA and copy it from the left side. --SPUI (talk) 19:59, 31 July 2005 (UTC)
- I am, however, not sure what you mean by "won't work in all browsers" as it works in both Netscape 7.2 and IE. I will include dual references, I think so if it doesn't work using Google maps they can try another one. Paul Robinson 16:43, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- Google Maps doesn't work in K-Meleon, a modern browser. I'm not sure what you mean about coor d being ugly - see Lehigh and New England Railroad#Lehigh and New England Railroad: 1895-1961 for an example of its use. --SPUI (talk) 17:54, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
- It's ugly; it shows the latitude and longitude coordinates and that's not what I want to show.
Paul Robinson 17:59, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
-
-
-
- Ah, didn't realize it was possible to do it without the lat/long. See Interstate 4 - I used coor. --SPUI (talk) 18:28, 1 August 2005 (UTC)
-
-
You see those numbers in the URL, like in http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Philadelphia,+Pennsylvania&ll=39.889719,-75.159531&spn=0.118620,0.180038&hl=en ? Those are the latitude and longitude. So instead of adding the Google Maps links, please use 39.889719_N_75.159531_W, which produces . This looks the same but allows for more freedom on the part of the user in choosing maps. --SPUI (talk) 05:33, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] chemistry category
Hi, I notice that you are moving a lot of articles into the chemistry category. Just to let you know: a lot of people busy themselves recategorizing articles to more specific categories and out of general categories such as chemistry. V8rik 22:34, 6 August 2005 (UTC)
- In response to your response on V8rik's page- I can accept your point about classifying things in several ways. However we cannot have every chemistry-related article categorised under "chemistry"- this would run to several thousand articles. This is like listing every historical figure as "category history", it is just way too broad. However if you do find any stray new chemistry articles that are completely uncategorised, I agree it is helpful just to stick it under chemistry so we are aware of it, the chemists will classify it properly later. Thanks, Walkerma 03:43, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Jumping the gun
Please refrain from listing the Supreme Court composition tables to have the most recent composition list be dated ending in 2005. We do not actually know that the Supreme Court composition will change in 2005. Roberts could be successfully borked. He could die in a car accident and have his successor borked. Until the confirmation actually occurs and O'Connor actually leaves the court, please refrain from making the change prematurely.
Thank you.

[edit] hoax book illustraton
IMHO, the joking "grassy knoll" book picture you added to list of hoaxes isn't quite appropriate - it's not about a hoax, it's about a conspiracy theory. A picture of the Cardiff Giant or something like that is what's really needed. - DavidWBrooks 16:22, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- How about if we edit the caption so that it's more explanatory? - DavidWBrooks 18:01, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi, sorry, my previous comment (now removed) wasn't particularly polite. I've reverted your additions because the "red book" picture isn't an appropriate image to put on these articles; in most cases it's off-topic and confusing, and isn't particularly illustrative. — Matt Crypto 00:33, 4 December 2005 (UTC)
The above poster removed your illustration, not at my urging ... you and I were having a pleasant, civilized discussion, which is what wikipedia is all about. Anyway, continuing the discussion about the hoax illustration - I see what you're trying to do, but I don't think it belongs in wikipedia. That's more of a magazine-type illustration, not illustrative as (IMHO) encyclopedia art/photos should be. - DavidWBrooks 00:26, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Request for edit summary
Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 19% for major edits and 9% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)
This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear impolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 21:30, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Disambig for Area code 212
Obviously the page only has only one possible disambiguation. Nonetheless, it seems to me to be a fundamental error that an area code for Manhattan should be the treated as if it were the same thing as one in Istanbul, as they are simply not the same area code and should be discussed as separate entities, and it feels wrong to do that on one article. Btw, I'm glad my enormous swarm of useless userboxes inspired you ;). Niffweed17, Destroyer of Chickens 23:32, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image Tagging for Image:Flashlight_450x190.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Flashlight_450x190.JPG. The image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to indicate why we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.
If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use GFDL to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies under Wikipedia's fair use guidelines, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use. If you want the image to be deleted, tag it as db-unksource.
If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

[edit] Georgia Ave map
Thanks for your image of GA Ave. It's very useful but it appears that your map shows the street going south all the way to Constitution Ave, or at least through downtown. [edit] Deleting your own work
Hi, thanks for marking Image:Area code 430.PNG for deletion. It is now gone. In future, please consider using db-author to mark pages for deletion if you created them by mistake or no longer consider them to be useful. This way, admins will not have to spend as much time checking for a reason for deletion. Thanks! Stifle (talk) 15:06, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] FIPS Place Code articles
Anything over about 32kb is inadvisable for Wikipedia articles because not everyone has ADSL to access the Internet and lower bandwidths will struggle with large pages. I have seen you uploading articles today of over 500kb. See Wikipedia:How to use tables to find out how to convert those html tables into wiki-tables, and I would advise breaking the pages down into smaller sections if after conversion they are still too large. -- Francs2000 12:42, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- Would you at least consider converting the formatting into wiki code? That will save a lot of space: HTML is very space expensive, which is why wiki table formatting was invented. -- Francs2000 00:38, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
This is your last warning for editing FIPS place code/Vermont. The next time you vandalize a page, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. // Tawkerbot2 23:00, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Look, I'm not really what's going on here. I briefly blocked you, but that was kind of a hasty action and I apologize. Can you please explain what's going on? --Cyde Weys 23:28, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
- I also blocked you, about two minutes after Cyde blocked, at the same time he unblocked you. So you've been unblocked again . . . but an explanation would be nice. --He:ah? 23:33, 11 April 2006 (UTC)
Apparently my posting of the FIPS codes for various communities of the United States was considered to be (1) Not valid for an encyclopedia; (2) excessively long; (3) original material, none of which I agree with. Following the comments I decided to mark the damn pages for deletion since if people don't want my content then fine, I'll pull the damn stuff, I don't have the time or the energy to fight over it. So marking the pages for deletion, based on the statements that were made, caused my account to be blocked for vandalism! I can't win. I put pages in, they're considered "not appropriate", so rather than fight over what I think is unfair and wrong, I remove the unwanted pages, I get blocked for vandalism! - It is not the posting of the codes that warranted the block, it is the deleted text that I won't repeat here that did. Unblock denied -- Tawker 01:41, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

- You can't just blank articles here. There is process in place because once you submit anything to Wikipedia it is the property of the project and community. The community doesn't like material being deleted without getting to review it first, so any attempt to get around the Article for Deletion process is considered vandalism. — Saxifrage ✎ 01:48, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] License tagging for Image:CA Inyo-Mariposa counties 300.png
Thanks for uploading Image:CA Inyo-Mariposa counties 300.png. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:04, 21 April 2006 (UTC)
