Richwoods Township is located in Peoria County, Illinois. The population was 6,539 at the 2000 census. Part of Richwoods Township was given to City of Peoria when it was organized as a township in 1907. Today, most of what was originally Richwoods Township lies within the city limits of Peoria, however, the village of Peoria Heights and a small part of unicorporated Peoria County, in the township's far northwest corner, remain outside of the city limits, and thus, under control of the township.
