[edit] History
The school was opened in 2000. The building is privately owned. The school was named by Lindsay Twohig who was promised $20 for naming the school. Unfortunatly.. she never received this. Since the school has opened, the mascot of the school has been a ram. The catch phrase for the school is "Home of The Rams". The school colors are black, white and teal.
The school goes from grades 6-9. Once grade nine students graduate, they are then sent to Sir John A. Macdonald High School Ridgecliff's feeder school is Beechville Lakeside Timberlea Elementary School.
The first principal of Ridgecliff was Terry Wadden, who is now working at Sir John A. High School, the school that grade 9 students are sent to after they complete the year. Wadden left at the beginning of the 2005-2006 year.
The current principal of Ridgecliff is Judy Reynolds. Before becoming principal at the school, she was the vice principal. Now the vice principal is Mr. John Turnbull. Before becoming an administrator, he taught Math and Science class in school.
[edit] Musicals
The school has had a total of 4 school musicals in its history.
The first of those musicals were 'Once on this Island'. The second was 'The Music Man', and the third was 'Bugsy Malone'. The most recent musical the school performed was 'Disney's Aladdin'. All of the musicals were directed by Teena Turner, the fine arts and science teacher at Ridgecliff. She is also joined by Paula little who directs the musical aspect of the show.
[edit] Health Promotion Program
Ridgecliff Middle School is currently the only school in Nova Scotia to sell just health foods.(and all the kids hate it) It is part of a health promotion program called healthy choices, or, as some people call it, choices for living. It has been working very well so far. Many of the students feel that it is better to have healthy food.
[edit] Bus Incident
On February 27, 2007, students on a bus traveling to Ridgecliff at about 7:35 started to report symptoms of burning eyes, and others began to have asthma like experiences. As of yet, there is not clue as to what may have happened. It is believed that the perpetrator sprayed a bear repellent into the air which resulted in this incident. That person was caught on March 5, 2007, they are now facing criminal charges from the RCMP and an unchosen punishment from the school.
