Russell Anderson (b. Aberdeen, October 25, 1978) is a Scottish football defender who currently plays for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premier League.
Anderson broke through the ranks to make his debut in the Aberdeen first team in 1997, and has since established himself as a rock at the heart of the defence. A solid, reliable centre-back, he has become a real fans' favourite and has amassed over three hundred appearances for Aberdeen. In the season 2005-06 he won the most man-of-the-match awards from BBC Scotland in the league. He currently captains the side. He has played for the Scottish national side on nine occasions and was both a youth and under-21 international. His good form and reliability for both club and country over the last couple of seasons has led for calls for him to become a regular in the Scotland starting line-up.
He recently celebrated ten years at the club with a testimonial match against Liverpudlian side Everton, a match where the Aberdeen fans showed their respect for his ability and loyalty, with 12,000 fans attending the match. Everton won 3-2 but the result was unimportant - the day belonged to the Captain.
In November 2006, he won the Scottish Player of the Month award for the first time in his career.
