Scott Flinders, (born June 12, 1986), is an English football player, who plays for Crystal Palace, where he wears the number one jersey. He also plays for the England Under-20 team.
He started out at Barnsley, and made his league debut in 2005, replacing the injured Ross Turnbull in the Barnsley goal. He made an instant impression, and played 11 games in the next three months - an impressive tally for a player of just 19. These performance led to a call-up to the England U-20 side.
In the 2005/06 season, he continued to play for the England U-20 side (as well as being picked for a "Football League XI", who played an Italian team of the same description), but went back to being second choice at Barnsley, this time to Nick Colgan. Because of this, he only made a few more league and cup appearances (in which he again impressed, leading to trials at Chelsea and Wigan Athletic) before departing, as he moved to Crystal Palace as part of the deal that took Sam Togwell the other way, in the summer of 2006.
Flinders made his competitive debut for Palace in a Carling Cup tie with Notts County, playing the full game as a poor Palace side were beaten 2-1. However, this would be his last appearance before going on loan to League One Gillingham, where he made his debut in the 2-1 away win against Doncaster Rovers on 9th September. On 5th October it was announced that his loan with the Gills had been extended for a second month[1], but this extended loan did not last its full spell, and Flinders was back on the Palace bench by the 28th October, though he did not remain there. For the next game, a trip to Sheffield Wednesday, Flinders made his league debut, while Hungarian international Gábor Király dropped to the bench for a game which ended in a 3-2 defeat, followed by a game at Loftus Road, against Queens Park Rangers, which ended in a 4-2 loss, after which he was dropped, not returning until late December, when he enjoyed better success.
On 20th February 2007, Flinders was sent out on loan again, for one month, this time to Palace's rivals, Brighton & Hove Albion, after their first choice goalkeeper Michel Kuipers was injured. Ironically, he made his Seagulls debut at Gillingham, a game that his new team won 1-0.
