[edit] Philippines' Department Article creation naming

Hello, I notice you have created a number of articles on government departments in the Philippines. To avoid confusion with other government departments in other countries it is beneficial to name the article with the country in it, ie:

Department of Science and Technology

is named as Department of Science and Technology (Philippines) that way it is clear what articles contain. This issue was first raised at the deletion comment for the above article here and I have asked there that the articles you have created with the incorrect names be moved to the correct name. Best Wishes, SFC9394 15:00, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] ARMM map

Hiya Bosconian... I studied in a Don Bosco high school in Dumaguete. :) Hows this for a map of ARMM? Some issues though:

  • Should Cotabato City be red, pink, or yellow?
  • Was I right to exclude Davao City?
  • The province borders in the map are the present day borders. There have been a few changes since 1976. [1] If you want, I could change it to 1976 borders without much hassle.

I could also change the colors, add labels, etc... Coffee 13:09, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

Hey! great to see a fellow Bosconian around Ü. Thanks for the map, that was fast! With regard to the concerns you raised, it will be best to have Cotabato City in pink since its actually not part of the ARMM. As for Davao City its correct to have excluded it. Will you also be able to label these areas as well - the provinces and maybe just dot on the map the highly urbanized cities: Zamboanga, General Santos, Cotabato, Iligan and Isabela City too, or will it make the map too crowded? Would providing labels for Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao be accomodated as well?
Anyway if I were to suggest colors, the ARMM areas remain in red, the areas intended to be part of ARMM in yellow, and the other areas be in brown, just like other regional locator maps, just retain all the exisiting provincial boundaries in the map. If you could likewise include the shade of Malaysian territory, so as not to make it appear that the vicinity is all water, that will be perfect. -- Scorpion prinz, 02:38, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Uploaded a new map. :) Coffee 01:48, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
The map is already perfect! I think you just forgot to put the labels on Palawan and the cities though, or will it appear too crowded, or lets just let go of the dots? Ü -- Scorpion prinz, 01:05, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh my, I'm not sure how I forgot Palawan's label. I think it would be a bit crowded with the city dots, so I'll just remove them. New map uploaded. Coffee 13:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
This is perfect I'll soon come out with an article about this. Thanks Ü -- Scorpion prinz, 22:49, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Great. :) Coffee 15:19, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Congress maps

Sure, I guess it wouldn't be too much trouble to make a map like that. Perhaps something like this, but with colors like this. Making more maps like that Negros Oriental map would take time though, and I doubt I could get around to it... but I'll see what I can do. :) --Coffee 03:40, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

Let me figure, basically I was suggesting two types of maps, one is a Philippine map showing the number of representative each province send, another is a map showing the congressional districts in a province.
I guess this map will be good for the congressional districts in every province. Towns and cities of the same district be colored in the same way, or maybe in different shades like this, it maybe as simple as the first map, but could the names of the towns be shown? What font do you use? For the number of representatives each province send I guess this one will be good or even this. Or are they too much to ask? Ü Scorpion prinz 21:57, 13 August 2006 (UTC)
Ok, as for the map showing the number of representatives per province... is this what you had in mind? This is based on data at 1st Congress of the Philippines. I could add labels for the provinces... Coffee 05:24, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow, that was fast! Great! Yeah it's exactly what I have in mind. Adding the labels will be best. Will you be able to carve the City of Manila from Rizal Province, and adjust the latter's boundary to show Valenzuela as part of Bulacan? It wouldn't require an inset for Manila would it? Maripipi Island in Biliran is part of Leyte isn't it? Or that will be very tedious? Ü Scorpion prinz 10:38, 14 August 2006 (UTC)
Alright, uploaded a new version with labels and fixes for the things you mentioned. I didn't realize Valenzuela used to be part of Bulacan... you have a good eye for these little details. :p Coffee 02:50, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
You're so good, this is perfect! Thanks. I apologize for paying too much attention in the details, i'm a self-confessed OC. hehehe. So shall I see the maps progress for every congress? Ü Scorpion prinz 03:23, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
By any chance you will be creating maps for the Second to the Seventh Congress, here were the changes that took place:
Second Congress: Tayabas changed to Quezon Province, Manila divided into 4 districts, Division of Mindoro into Occidental and Oriental Mindoro
Third Congress: Aklan separated from Capiz, Capiz reduced to 2 districts, Division of Zamboanga into Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur
Fourth Congress: none
Fifth Congress: Southern Leyte separated from Leyte Province, Leyte province reduced to 4 districts, Division of Lanao into Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur, Division of Surigao into Surigao del Norte and Surigao del Sur
Sixth Congress: Division of Davao Province, into Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Separation of Eastern Samar and Northern Samar from Samar province, South Cotabato separated from Cotabato province
Seventh Congress: Separation of Kalinga-Apayao, Benguet and Ifugao from Mountain Province, Division of Agusan into Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur, Camiguin separated from Misamis Oriental Ü Scorpion prinz 21:53, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, alright. I was basing the provincial borders on the stuff I found at this site. I'm done with the 7th congress, and I'll work my way back down to the 1st:

--Coffee 12:30, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks, 7th Congress map is already perfect, except Maripipi Island of Biliran is back to Samar again Ü. Mindoro was officially split in 1950, however each of Occidental and Oriental already had their own representatives in the 2nd Congress, I guess we just have to recognize that. Scorpion prinz 13:53, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Not sure if you noticed, but I'm done with all those. :p --Coffee 18:02, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Oh, wow you are finished, thanks. Sorry I didn't pay attention to my talk page. Thanks a lot. Scorpion prinz 00:22, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
By the way, I went as far as going personally to the COMELEC main office to photocopy election records to verify the list of elected members of congress, since 1946, just to iron out any difference between the 2 sources I already have that show representatives from provinces which were not yet created at the time of their representation. The materials I have photocopied are about an inch thick, I'll just sort them out on my free time, I'll tell you any discrepancy, so the maps may be adjusted if needed, if you have the time for it. Ü Scorpion prinz 00:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Wow. You're way more dedicated to researching sources than me... I suppose it's possible to place all the raw data you got online in a different location than Wikipedia (since I think most of it is unencyclopedic?). Works by the Philippine Government is in the public domain. That would help election researchers a lot. --seav 13:37, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Ph seal quezon general nakar.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Ph seal quezon general nakar.png. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Legislative districts of Davao del Norte

I really like your articles on the legislative districts of the Philippines. Great job! I'm currently making a map showing all the districts (with an inset for Metro Manila), even daring to include Kalayaan municipality in the Spratlys. It won't be finished though until I figure out how to properly divide Maguindanao/Shariff Kabunsuan, Caloocan, Antipolo, Parañaque and Davao City, as well as the new divisions in Taguig-Pateros, Zamboanga Sibugay and Sultan Kudarat.

I found just one error so far in the articles, in Davao del Norte. According to this COMELEC Resolution, San Isidro belongs to the same district as that of its mother municipalities, Asuncion and Kapalong (DDN's 1st district). The NSCB adds a bit of confusion, as it still displays the incorrect designations for the two districts of the province. I could've moved it myself but I'm afraid of making errors in the population figures. Keep up the good work! Dakilang Isagani 03:52, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for posting all those resources! I've come across the Parañaque and Davao maps, but the former is dubious in terms of the exact border delineation and the latter is not to scale. Also, I've been really racking my brains out trying to remember the map site that had barangay borders - I'm very glad you shared the link! I'll try to have the congressional district map(s) ready by next week.
By the way, just a general rambling: Isn't it peculiar that Cotabato City still falls under the label of "1st District of Maguindanao"? I mean, San Jose del Monte and Antipolo both have their names on their district designations even though they are merely component cities of Bulacan and Rizal respectively. Why the COMELEC made an exception to an independent component city boggles me. -- Dakilang Isagani 02:29, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
The maps are almost finished, with just minor adjustments for Davao City and Metro Manila pending. I came across the COMELEC's Education and Information Department website that had this document. It divides Pasig and Pasay into two districts each. Are these among the newer congressional districts created since the last election? By the way, the document does not divide Taguig and Marikina into districts, although Parañaque and Valenzuela were. Dakilang Isagani 00:30, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Map of the legislative districts of the Philippines

Here's the coloured version of the legislative districts map that I've been working on. The provincial and relevant city boundaries are thicker than the intra-provincial/city district boundaries.

What do you think? --- Dakilang Isagani 05:23, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure if the locator maps I made for individual districts would be up to the high standard set by Coffee for Philippine regions, provinces, cities and municipalities. I need your opinion/suggestions on how to improve them. Take a look at samples of my district locator maps:
CALOOCAN CITY

This one's fairly easy on the eyes, methinks. By the way, should I remove the text explaining the Philippines' territorial disputes over Scarborough Shoal, Kalayaan and Sabah?
ANTIPOLO CITY

I think this district is the smallest in terms of land area outside of Metro Manila. I can make individual province/city maps with municipal/barangay boundaries but that would take at least until the end of summer to entirely accomplish.
By the way, thank you very much for the barnstar! I really appreciate it. --- Dakilang Isagani 07:05, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Also, according to the COMELEC document I mentioned before, the two barangays of Post Proper Northside and Southside still belong to Makati's 2nd Congressional District, as R.A. 8487 did not mention these barangays as part of the new legislative district of Taguig yet (the RTC ruling was in 2003, the Republic Act was signed on February 1998). I took these into account on the maps I've made so far. --- Dakilang Isagani 07:34, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
It'd be awesome if you could find out for sure whether those two barangays are indeed part of the congressional district of Taguig City, before I multpily the mistakes. I think it would require another RA to amend the original Taguig cityhood charter to include the barangays in dispute to the district. In the meantime, those barangays are now administratively part of Taguig City. I would think that residents would now vote for city officials (executive branch of government) of Taguig but not congressional representatives (legislative branch) of Taguig yet. --- Dakilang Isagani 20:16, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Will do. ;-) Only that it might take a few more days, I hope that's OK. In the following weeks I might be able to only make the district locator maps for Metro Manila, with the others to be made in the summer. --- Dakilang Isagani 18:16, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
