Sid the Dummy is a fictional character in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode The Puppet Show. He is a demon hunter, imprisoned in the body of a ventriloquist dummy.
[edit] Character
Sid is a broad and heroic character shrouded in mystery, appearing in Episode 9 of the first season. When a girl is found dead with her heart removed, Buffy and the others suspect that one of the contestants in the upcoming talent contest is the criminal. After conversations with various students, Morgan is the prime suspect. Morgan is a nervous kid who has a dummy named Sid, but he seems to have a life of his own. While the others believe Morgan is simply a cold-hearted murderer, Buffy believes that Sid is the real suspect.
That night, Buffy is attacked by Sid at her house, but he escaped when she attacked it. Giles, Xander and Willow did not believe her at first. Xander steals Sid after he is locked in a cupboard by one of Morgan's teachers, so Buffy can speak with Morgan alone. Giles and Willow discover that on rare occasions, human-like toys can come to life and gain human organs, which leads them to believe he may be real. Buffy meanwhile discovers Morgan dead backstage, his brain removed. Suddenly Sid drops a chandelier on Buffy, trapping her down while he attempts to continously stab her to death with a kitchen knife. Buffy frees herself and confronts Sid and they both realise that they haven't got the right person.
In the library, Sid reveals he is a demon hunter imprisoned in a new body, thanks to seven demons who cursed him. Sid has killed six of them and the last one is in the school somewhere. Sid also mistook Buffy for a demon. Buffy and Sid got to see which contestants are missing, but all are present, but everyone is. Buffy comes across Morgan's brain and realises it is not compatiable for the demon, as Morgan had some sort of brain cancer. Giles wanders off to help another student, Mark, with his magic act, but it is really an attempt to get his brain. Marc is the demon. Buffy battles the demon while Xander and Willow try to free Giles. Sid appears with his knife and leaps on the demon's back. Buffy knocks the demon down and Xander decpapitates him under a guillotine. Sid gives the finishing blow to the demon by stabbing him through the heart, thanking Buffy for her help. He kills the demon but dies afterwards, the curse lifted. Sid makes a return as a playable character in the video game, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds.
