Sunnydale High is a fictional high school in Joss Whedon's TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Located in Sunnydale, it competes with Fondren High ("Some Assembly Required"). It was headed by Principal Bob Flutie early in the first season. After he was eaten in "The Pack", a strict Principal Snyder took over on the recommendation of Mayor Richard Wilkins. The Master rose in the season finale after the Sunnydale High School library showed itself to be on top of the Hellmouth, a subterranean, mystical portal that attracts evil like a magnet. Rupert Giles was conveniently the librarian, and Buffy and her Scooby Gang usually hang there and strategize. The school football team are the Razorbacks and wear maroon and yellow.
Season three ended with a bang -- Principal Snyder was eaten by the Mayor-cum-demon before the latter was blown up along with the entire school building by Rupert Giles. It is possible that the boast made by the Class of 1999 at their prom -- that the graduating class had the lowest mortality rate in Sunnydale history -- went with the explosives. After its ruins lay for a while, Xander Harris helped rebuild it by season seven -- the Principal's office is now directly over the Hellmouth -- only for it to be sucked into a giant hole along with an empty Sunnydale in the battle with the First Evil.
The real building is Torrance High School, located at 2200 W. Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501, approximately 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles.
The exterior shots of New Sunnydale High were filmed at California State University, Northridge in Northridge, California.
