Sopore is a town and a town area committee in Baramula district in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Sopore had a population of 73,246 and area of 61 sq kms making it the 4th largest town after Jammu , Anantnag & Srinagar . Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Sopore has an average literacy rate of 55%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 63%, and female literacy is 46%. In Sopore, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Sopore is a major town in Kashmir within the district of Baramula. It is 55 km north-west from Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. The place is famous for its apple and apple orchards, which are considered among the best in India.
Most of the population of old Sopore resides on the banks of river Jehlum which passes through it. Old sopore comprises of Khushal mutto, Sofi hammam, Armpora and Batpora. New Sopore consists mainly civil lines areas like New Colony, Badami bagh, Noor bagh and New Ashpeer sahib. Sopore has quite a population inhabiting several satellite areas like Model town and Krankshiovan. This town is surrounded by many lovely villages. These villages consist one block and this is called as Zaingair.
Sopore has been a major trading centre for years. Iqbal market is the main market of the township. In chotta bazaar, one can shop for spices, wholesale products and fish. Sopore's fish is much sought after and relished in the whole of north Kashmir. About 8 Kilometers from Sopore is the famed Wular Lake. It is one of the largest fresh water lake's in Asia.
