Saint Xavier University, also known as SXU, is a coeducational institution of higher learning located in the southwest side of Chicago, Illinois, founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1846 at the request of Bishop William Quarter. It was originally dubbed Saint Francis Xavier Female Academy in the 19th century, which was later renamed to Saint Xavier College, and in 1992, officially became a university. The university currently enrolls over 5,000 students and is known for its undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, business, and education. The school's sports teams compete in the NAIA as the Cougars.

There are five major schools at Saint Xavier:

The College of the Arts and Sciences is arguably the largest School on the basis that it consists of many academic departments:

Nevertheless, Saint Xavier appears to attract a large number students interested in careers in the fields of business, nursing, and education.
[edit] Campuses
Saint Xavier's main campus is located in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago, noticeably on the corner of 103 Street and Central Park Avenue. It is a part of a greater Catholic school campus, sharing land with Mother McAuley and Brother Rice high schools.
The university's main campus is made up of several buildings, including the Warde Academic Center, which is the oldest building on campus and houses administrative offices, the Shannon Center, McDonough Chapel, a large Catholic chapel, the Graham School of Management Building, Andrew Conference Center, Driehaus Center, Pulaski Center, and five large dormitories. Saint Xavier also has a satellite campus located in Orland Park.
