St Johns railway station is in the London Borough of Lewisham, in southeast London. The station and all trains serving it are operated by Southeastern.
Trains run west to London Bridge then Cannon Street (most trains during the week) or Charing Cross (a few trains during the week, and all trains when Cannon Street is closed). To the east, trains run to Hayes, or via the Dartford Loop Line to Dartford or London via Sidcup and Woolwich Arsenal. A few peak trains run via the Bexleyheath Line.
The station is very close to Lewisham station, and many trains do not call here. There are only two platforms, on the slow lines - the fast lines diverge to avoid Lewisham just south of the station (although a flyover allows trains on the fast lines to serve Lewisham).
There is no direct road access to the station, reached by a footbridge from St Johns Vale.
On 4 December 1957, two trains collided just southeast of the station on the Lewisham by-pass line, bringing down the Lewisham-Nunhead railway bridge. Further disaster was averted as a train about to cross the bridge was halted by its driver.

- St. Johns is built on land owned originally by St. Johns Church nearby of which its name derives from. South Eastern Trains due to an archaic agreement have to make a small donation to the church everytime a train stops.
- St. Johns serves Goldsmiths College
- The second episode of the 1979 LWT comedy series End of Part One includes the main characters watching a film called "The Life of Christopher Columbus". In the film, Columbus goes to a tube station and asks for a train to America, but is told he can only go as far as Catford. Part of a modified tube map is shown which shows the fictitious tube stations Lewisham, Ladywell, Edge of the World and Catford on the East London Section of the Metropolitan Line south from New Cross tube station. There is an actual part of the mainline Mid-Kent Railway that interchanges with New Cross tube station, and the stations are, southwards in order: St. John's, Lewisham, Ladywell and Catford Bridge (Catford on a different line interchanges with the latter).
- The station is perhaps infamous to many homeward bound commuters by the sobriquet "This train does not call at St. Johns" which features in many announcements!
