I say we do some major SA revamping, so Skye hates Dom some more!

I say that we do not, Dom has been correcting his ways and should not be punished more in my opinion, especially for something he had nothing to do with. I think that you have a grudge against him, if you do, please work it out like civilized people.~The Satirist~

I fixed some grammer mistakes -jake1293-

So, why is there an NPOV argument again?

NPOV?

Anyways, I think that Dom should not be hated anymore. The person who said that should be tortured with the Pear of Anguish. Killervenom47 20:13, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I finally figured out Dominick! Yay! Anyways, I think he should be banned for 1 month. Max. Anyways, I am just trying to get my IP unbanned from xGEN. I didn't do anything wrong. Does it matter that I am using a public computer? ~Lukorior

What's so biased about this. granted I find it annoying that we have two sections about weapon speeds but nothing is accusatory or biased. -Trog_Dor

Fixed the speeds, used data leeched from Skye's chart. I'll do some other stuff later (tomorrow, maybe), as of now it looks pretty decent. Don't understand why there's an NPOV argument either, but whatever. Not that big of a deal, if anyone has a problem with something they'll change it themselves anyway. DevonTheGreat 02:12, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Dom deserved what he got. Although, I don't see why they didn't go ahead and ban him from the main site instead. Ah well. It's over now, no reason to worry. He'll be back on the forums again in a few months anyway, I'm sure. Doug05257 06:04, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

LOL, I got banned from XGen again. Whatever. Not gonna really bother with it again, it's obvious someone up there has something personal against me. Hell knows what I got accused of now. Anyway, I'll add a few strategies by the end of the night. DevonTheGreat 02:45, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Help me out here, who in the wolrd is Dom and what did he do? -Zerlock

It would be better if SA screenies were put there instead of real weapons.

[edit] knife

i removed the data on knife in the table. I don't this should be included since this weapon can only by obtained by hack through previous version Rockvee 21:26, 5 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] uhuhuhuhuhuh

fixed some minor details

Dom should be banned from Stick Arena, and a 1 month ban from Xgen.

I hated him, but he did some greater good for people, all his signatures and insight I mean.

[edit] NPOV

I think this article is marked for NPOV edits because some parts of it read like a press release from the company or game administrators. That kind of stuff doesn't really belong in Wikipedia because it's not encyclopedic. Aguerriero 03:53, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article updates

I have been doing some reorganizing and copyediting to "wikify" the article, and I need some help on a couple specific questions:

  • For the melee weapon range, why does a lower number mean a bigger area?
  • This section made no sense to me at all - can someone explain it to me:
"When you have a gun and against a another player with a sword chances are they will win if you stand or just keep backing. Here back a short ways then goes the oppsite way. The other players speed is his/her disadvantage giving you enough time to get a kill! This is one of the most effective ways again killing a sword armed player besides the sledgehammer."

Aguerriero 20:48, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

I can't answer the 1st one since I too think that the values and the relative ranges should be directly proportional instead of the other way, since it's just going to confuse a lot of people. For the second thing, it was only describing the tactics of how to exploit the katana user's high speed by going toward the opposite direction, leaving them rushing off a distance from you enough to kill him with a gun (of any type I guess). Anyways, as the discussion mentioned below (or above?), this does not really belong here, for it's wikipedic neither in language nor in style (this is encyclopedia, not a game guide).

--Vic226 02:11, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Weapon images

No one appears to monitor this Talk page, but I'll give it a shot: I'm not sure the "weapon images" add anything to the article. They clutter the text and add tons of white space that is visually distracting. Any thoughts? I see that they were removed once before, but someone has added them again. I could see having little screen shots of the weapons in the game, but what are these? Aguerriero 21:10, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Section removal - strategies, popularity

I've removed a fairly large bit of this article. First, the two sections on strategies seemed wholly inappropriate for Wikipedia; it's an encyclopedia, not a game guide. Second, the paragraph on "popularity" was mostly vanity and non-notable trivia regarding the community. ~ Booyabazooka 23:57, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

I feel a little bad that my sole contribution to this article thus far has been deleting things, but I really believe that this too needed to go. On the chopping block we have the table of rankings and points, as well as the list of hacks. These seem very trivial (the game itself doesn't even strike me as being that noteworthy, although I guess its throng of wiki-vandalizing players should indicate that it is a bit popular), and I'm not sure what these sections really add to the encyclopedia article. ~ Booyabazooka 07:17, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

(see guidelines on scope of video game articles for justification...) ~ Booyabazooka 07:22, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Range of fists

The user Idontrememeber has twice tried to put in the figure "75" with a "?" in the weapons table for the range of fists. It has been twice reverted, mainly because you shouldn't add a "guess" to an article. If you know for sure, add it. If you don't, don't add it. Aguerriero (talk) 22:27, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

...everyone does hate me.....anyways first I hope you know what a question mark is cause you dont seem to know what it means there is nothing wrong with guessing. I put 75 based of a estimate and tests using the bat and sword and its close. Later i verified it and it should be about. So stop removing it! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Idontremember (talk • contribs) 14:16, 20 May 2006 (UTC).

I don't hate you. I don't even know you. And I don't appreciate the insults - I have put a lot of work into improving this article so it belongs here and doesn't get deleted outright. There is something wrong with guess here at Wikipedia, because it is an encyclopedia. People come here looking for facts, not guesses. I will always remove bogus information from any article if I notice it, as will many other editors here. It's nothing personal; we are all here to make Wikipedia the best it can be. Aguerriero (talk) 21:38, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
75 is under range for fists. Did Idon'tremember sneak it in, or did someone else? Or has this been verified somewhere? If so, some proof would be nice.Hootyea 23:51, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Next version

Is it worth mentioning the next version of Stick arena coming out soon? Well, Stick RPG2 was supposed to come out two years ago but.. oh I don't know.

[edit] Animereadaboute2 recently fixed this article from vandalism!=

I just fixed the article from vandalism stick arena was put on with information that just included repeats of letters included proof is in the page's history. I don't care but if you give me an anti vandalism barnstar I would really appreciate it but sometimes you don't have to.Animereadabouter2 01:37, 14 December 2006 (UTC) Themasterofwiki 19:06, 12 February 2007 (UTC)==can somebody fix this?==

could you fix the cheats part of the article (anyone)Animereadabouter2 22:13, 28 December 2006 (UTC)

I doubt that it should be included in the article at all. Stick Arena is not notable because of its bugs/cheats and their effects on gameplay and players. If there is a published source of it (not blogs or forums), then I'll look into it later. Vic226(chat) 12:57, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

It's been fixed.

[edit] Prosposed Deletion

Stick Arena's article was proposed for deletion. As an author who has published an article in a Chicago newspaper about Stick Arena and referenced this Wikipedia entry I feel that would be a mistake. I hope knowledgeable people in regards of Wikipedia and Stick Arena consider modifying the article to fit the concerns of the person who proposed deleting this article. I was not 100% sure what his concern was, I think it was that there was only one media reference and that software need more than that to be considered notable.

Stick Arena is an active community of younger skewing people who might not always be the best Wikipedia authors, but that does not mean this article should disappear. During my research there are not many (if any) real-time multi-player games built in Flash and for that alone this is a unique game and technical achievement. --Dkaufman1 23:10, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

As the person who proposed this article for deletion, I would like to explain some of my concerns here. I admit that Stick Arena has been a very successful free online multi-player game, and I myself am one of the players in it. However, I have to look into this article more critically under Wikipedia's perspective, not my own.
In WP:SOFTWARE, Wikipedia stresses—and can never stress this enough—that WP is not a primary source, and it is not a directory for all existing softwares either. Per WP:EL guideline, I fail to see any significant reliability of dkworldwide.com; rather, your website appears to be more of a Blog site, which WP:EL#Links normally to be avoided excludes in the middle of the list. It may be true that you are the author of its article for "a Chicago newspaper" (yet I do not know what newspaper you are referring to. Perhaps you could cite it directly to here?), and it may have been republished word-by-word on your own site. However, your article, as WP:SOFTWARE mentioned, could be considered as a press release which would not qualify WP:NPOV and the following, quoted directly from WP:SOFTWARE:

Newspaper stories that do not credit a reporter or a news service and simply present company news in an uncritical or positive way may be treated as press releases unless there is evidence to the contrary.

I understand that WP:SOFTWARE is still undergoing proposal to become a WP policy/guideline, but this guideline is written in relation to WP:CORP, which also states similar rejection to the press release (and other "sources") in Primary criterion. Furthermore, the software is widespread perhaps only in flash game-related websites, and I am yet to see an actual critical secondary source. I am not denying its great achievement in technical terms, but it may not be as striking as other softwares such as RuneScape (another semi-free Java-based MMORPG) and World of Warcraft (obviously non-free, but it's indeed more significant by comparison). Hence the {{prod}}. Vic226 05:20, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Vic - I appreciate your knowledge of WP, so for that I can obviously leave their official policies and guidelines in your capable hands. I will give you some other answers. First I agree there appears to be very little other media coverage (not that media coverage is the be all, end all judgment).
As for me, I am a syndicated writer who publishes the column TechLife in Chamber Publishing's What's Happening Newspapers. This specific article was printed in four editions with a distribution of just under 100K and readership of about 200K. I tend to not "advertise" for the paper because WP is not supposed to have advertisements. As for Techlife being published as a blog, starting in 2007 we began to write the column online first and then publish it, as an experiment in real-time digital ethnography. You can see a mention of this on the far right of the site. I also don't promote the blog's name either in my citation as it would seem self-serving when my intent is to provide the content.
Regarding the game itself. In my research for this article, I looked all over the internet for free multi-player flash games as a follow up to the Line Rider articles I wrote. This was the only one I found. I felt that was very significant find, both culturally and historically in its niche. I realize in terms of games in general it isn't. I also know that as I mentioned the average age of the player of this game is not the average contributor to Wikipedia, so there is less quality material. And the lack of media is due to media normally covering business gaming stories that DO issue press releases, free games are rare. So in summary, should you decide to delete this article, based on your criteria which have a larger, more established backdrop I can understand. But I hope you re-consider carefully as I believe this game stands the test of culture, technical achievement and popularity.
Finally, I am in no way connected to X-Gen Studios, nor was I asked to write this piece. Full disclosure: After it was written and published I was contacted by Skye Boyes a principal of the company. I did do a follow-up article which I did NOT link to as it was not WP material, but I was also not paid for that article either. As a journalist I have never been paid to write a story about any company or person I have covered.--Dkaufman1 20:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
