Sunnydale High School students - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sunnydale High School students

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Buffy: the Vampire Slayer universe, a public high school named Sunnydale High is located in the town of Sunnydale, California. Many of the show's major and minor characters are current or former students at the high school. The following are all fictional characters who attended Sunnydale High.

This article includes both the "old" Sunnydale High (first seen in "Welcome to the Hellmouth") and the "new" Sunnydale High (first seen in "Lessons"); although they are two different buildings, they are the same school with (largely) the same faculty, and sit on the same location.

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details about some or all of the Buffyverse productions (Buffy, Angel, Fray, etc.) follow.

[edit] Devon MacLeish

Devon MacLeish is a minor recurring character; he is lead singer of the band Dingoes Ate My Baby, a friend of Daniel 'Oz' Osbourne and one-time boyfriend of both Cordelia Chase and Harmony Kendall.

Devon was played by Jason Hall.

Devon appears in several episodes, but never features very prominently. His lines are generally comic relief as he plays comedian to Oz's straight-man on subjects such as girls and bands who can play more than three chords. However, Devon's actions show other layers to his personality as he is shown valiantly assisting the Scoobies in battling the zombies in "Dead Man's Party". After Oz's departure in the 4th season, Devon, along with the rest of the Dingoes, are not seen again.

[edit] Fritz

Fritz appears as one of Moloch´s henchmen/slaves in the episode "I, Robot... You, Jane". He kills Dave and kidnaps Willow, under orders from the Internet-bound demon. He is killed by Moloch who snaps his neck after getting his robot body.

[edit] Jesse McNally

Main Article: Jesse McNally

Eric Balfour as Jesse McNally

Jesse McNally (played by Eric Balfour) is a minor character in the first season. Appearing in the first two episodes, he is a close friend of both Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris at the time that Buffy Summers transfers to Sunnydale High School. He has a crush on Cordelia Chase.

Jesse is captured by the Order of Aurelius to be offered to The Master. He is turned into a vampire in order to lure the Slayer into a trap.

When confronted by Xander, Jesse shows the typical attitude of newly-sired vampires, astonished by his newfound powers and immortality. Rupert Giles had earlier warned Xander that when he saw Jesse, he wouldn't be looking at his friend but rather at the creature that killed him. In the ensuing battle, the vampire Jesse is killed by Xander, by accident when a character rushing past pushes Jesse onto the stake that Xander is threatening him with.

Despite being such a close friend to Xander and Willow, after his death Jesse is never mentioned again.

[edit] Owen Thurman

Owen is Buffy's date in the episode "Never Kill a Boy on the First Date". He follows Buffy, Willow and Xander to the morgue after being instructed not to and almost gets killed by the vampire the gang believes is The Anointed One. He enjoys the thrill that comes from the near-death experience, but Buffy turns him down because he cannot really understand the world that Buffy lives in; he will inevitably get himself killed if he remains in Buffy's world. He is a very calm guy who reads a lot of poetry. He is a member of the High School chess club.

[edit] Percy West

Percy West is a minor recurring character on the show. He appears in seasons three and four. The character is played by Ethan Erickson.

Percy is a basketball player and "jock" at Sunnydale High School. When his low grades nearly make him ineligible to play, Principal Snyder insists that Willow "tutor" him, but in Percy's mind, this means that Willow is going to do his work for him. After a run-in with Willow's doppelgänger, a vampire from an alternate reality, Percy decides to take Willow's tutoring more seriously, writing up essays on both President Roosevelts when he only needs to write about one.

Percy also helps organize the students into a fighting force at Graduation. He goes to USC on a football scholarship, but dates a girl who goes to UC-Sunnydale. At a party, Willow runs into him and his girlfriend and they have a casual conversation. After that, Willow overhears Percy refer to her as a nerd. He is not seen again.

[edit] Pete Clarner

John Patrick White as Pete.

Pete Clarner appears only once in the Season 3 episode, "Beauty and the Beasts".

Pete Clarner and his girlfriend, Debbie, are introduced into the series as friends of Scott Hope, a high school student whom Buffy Anne Summers briefly dates. Pete has a dark side, as the episode reveals the warped relationship between him and Debbie. A paranoid and insecure maniac, Pete is afraid that Debbie thinks he isn't man enough for her, so using his incredible understanding of bio-chemistry, he creates a serum that alters him physically and emotionally, bringing out the beast within, primal man (rather like Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde, or The Incredible Hulk). This could also of course, have something to do with living on a Hellmouth. After brutally murdering two people he believes are flirting with Debbie behind his back, Pete is attacked by Oz in werewolf form, goes on to kill Debbie after he believes that she has told Buffy about his actions, and is subsequently killed by a feral Angel, driven to the brink of madness by his time in Hell.

[edit] Scott Hope

Fab Filippo as Scott Hope
Fab Filippo as Scott Hope

Scott Hope is a minor recurring character during the third season. In the beginning of season three, he is introduced as a potential new love-interest for Buffy, who had killed her ex-boyfriend Angel at the end of the second season.

Although Buffy acknowledges the fact that Scott Hope is a potential love-interest, her duties as the Slayer and her guilt over killing Angel get in the way of her pursuing a relationship with Scott. At one point, Scott, who is very interested in Buffy, gives her a Claddagh Ring as a sign of his feelings for her. The gift, although well intended, is not received happily, as she had received one from Angel before he had turned evil and she was forced to kill him.

Nonetheless, after numerous advances by Scott, she finally gives in and they date for a short time, but she is dumped shortly before homecoming because he noticed that she is constantly distracted. By this time however, Angel has returned (he is actually the reason for her distraction as she is helping him recover from his time in Hell) and she does not seem to be torn over it. Scott's actions do receive Faith's scorn, although she ultimately relents.

Several years later, in season seven, Buffy learns from former classmate Holden Webster, in the episode "Conversations with Dead People" that Scott is gay, and as a possible sign of this in high school he would break up with women and spread a rumor that they were gay. This turn of events is possibly a reference to the fact that Fab Filippo had gone on to portray the character of Ethan Gold on the Showtime series Queer as Folk.

[edit] Tucker Wells

Tucker Wells (played by Brad Kane aka Caleb Kane) summons demonic dogs to attack the Prom in the season three episode "The Prom". He is best known as the brother of Andrew Wells. As Andrew's identity is constantly forgotten, Tucker serves as a handy point of reference.

Although Tucker only appears in one episode of the show, Brad Kane actually returned to the show in the fourth season episode "Superstar" as the singing voice for Jonathan Levinson.
