Nirvana (band)

Nirvana was an American rock band in the 1990s. They first got started in 1987 in the town of Aberdeen, Washington. This town is near Seattle, Washington. Nirvana affected the style of other bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. They made up the main part of the alternative type of "grunge." This type of music is also called "Seattle Sound".
In Nirvana, Kurt Cobain was a guitar player and singer. He also wrote many of their songs. Krist Novoselic played bass, and Dave Grohl played drums. Nirvana made their first album called Bleach. It had the songs "About A Girl" and "Love Buzz". Many people liked Nirvana's 1991 album Nevermind. This album had the song "Smells Like Teen Spirit". Nirvana made another album called In Utero in 1993. It had the songs "Heart Shaped Box" and "Pennyroyal Tea". In April of 1994, Cobain killed himself and Nirvana ended. Grohl later started another band called the Foo Fighters. He still plays music today. Novoselic has been in other bands. He has also been interested in politics. For a short time, he tried to become Lieutenant Governor of Washington in 2004.
