Pencil
From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A pencil is a cylinder-shaped tool used to write and draw, usually on paper. It is usually made with a piece of carbon mixed with clay, which has wood around it.
An important difference between pens and pencils is that pencil writings do not smudge or wash away if the paper gets wet. Writing from a pencil can be erased, but writing from a pen cannot.
While pens have been around for thousands of years, pencils have only been around since the 18th Century.
Crayons are another kind of writing instrument.
