Terry and June was a popular, long-running British sitcom starring Terry Scott and June Whitfield, who played a happily married, middle-class, surburban couple. It lasted for nine series over eight years. Most episodes were written by John Kane. Others to write episodes were Terry Ravenscroft, Dave Freeman & Greg Freeman, Jon Watkins, Colin Bostock-Smith, Eric Merriman & John Chapman and David Grigson.

Terry and June was largely a continuation of Happy Ever After, a sitcom that ended in 1978 and also starred Terry Scott and June Whitfield. In the new sitcom, their surname was changed and Aunt Lucy, of Happy Ever After, disappeared. They were now Terry and June Medford, a couple in their late forties, who move to Purley, Surrey in the first series. Their one daughter, Wendy, was married to Roger and rarely seen. However, their nephew, Alan Medford, made more frequent appearances, and always got Terry and June into some sort of trouble. Terry worked for Playsafe Fire Extinguishers and Appliances, and his boss was Malcolm Harris. Malcolm, whose surname was once given as Lawrence, and his wife Beattie were regulars throughout the programme. The head of the company was Sir Dennis Hodge, whose secretary was Miss Fennel.

As with most domestic sitcoms, their neighbours played a role durings the series. In the first and second series, their neighbours were Brian and Tina Pillbeam. They were played by Roland Curran and Anita Graham. From series three to six, they were replaced by Tarquin and Melinda Spry. Tarquin was played by Allan Cuthbertson. Melinda was originally played Joan Benham, but she died on 13 June 1981, and Terry and June was her last television appearance. She was replaced by Diana King, who only appeared occasionally.

Terry and June generally revolved around the problems and situations that Terry and June got themselves into, with Terry usually causing the problem. June always supported him, but was normally critical of his actions. June Whitfield has said that her role was to "drift the laughter towards Terry's lines", and such was their acting on-screen, many thought they were married in real life.

Terry and June first aired on 24 October 1979. It ran for a total of 65 episodes, with nine series and four Christmas Specials. The last episode aired on 31 August 1987.

The show was generally regarded by critics as the epitome of the bland middle-class sitcom, the kind of which has almost disappeared from the schedules by the new millennium. It was, however, a great favourite with viewers, and received viewing figures three times those of any of the 'alternative' comedies of the era. In 2004, it came 73rd in Britain's Best Sitcom, jointly with Happy Ever After.

The BBC put into production a film version of Terry and June, to be called Terry and June - The Movie, but this remained uncompleted^{[citation needed]}.

The first five series, the 1980, 1981 and 1982 Christmas Specials, have been released on DVD in Region 2 (UK) by Cinema Club. The sixth series will be released on 16 April 2007.
