The Flintstones Comedy Hour
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Flintstones Comedy Hour was an hour-long Saturday morning cartoon anthology series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions in 1972 for CBS. The show's segments included the second season of The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, as well as segments with Fred and Barney and song segments, performed by Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm and Moonrock with a band called "The Bedrock Rockers". The show also featured Bad Luck Schleprock, Wiggy, Penny, and the Bronto Bunch (Bronto, Noodles, Zonk) from The Pebbles and Bamm Bamm Show.
CBS reran The Flintstones Comedy Hour for the 1973-74 television season, shortening it to a half-hour and calling it The Flintstone Comedy Show. The program has continued to air in rebroadcasts on USA Network, and later Cartoon Network and Boomerang under that title.
Like other cartoon shows produced in the 1970s, the Hanna-Barbera laugh track was added to the soundtrack of The Flintstones Comedy Hour.
[edit] The Flintstone Comedy Show Revival
In 1980, The Flintstone Comedy Show was revived with a new line-up featuring the following segments [1]:
- "Flintstone Family Adventures": a segment similar to the original series.
- "Bedrock Cops": Fred, Barney, and the Shmoo as police officers.
- "Pebbles, Dino, and Bamm-Bamm": The two young teenagers and Dino solving mysteries ala Scooby-Doo
- "Captain Caveman": a Superman parody segment featuring Captain Caveman, from Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels, as the flying superhero and Wilma and Betty as the helpless reporters in distress (à la Lois Lane).
- "Dino and Cavemouse": A chase-formula segment similar to Tom and Jerry [2].
- "The Frankenstones": featuring the situation comedy of the Flintstones' Munsters-like neighbors (similar to the Gruesomes from the original series). Charles Nelson Reilly, Ruta Lee & Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) voiced the Frankenstones [3].
The series ran from (1980–1982).
