[edit] Plot
Plans for the sequel were officially announced by Sony during Comic-Con 2006. Takashi Shimizu stated he was asked to direct the sequel but would rather produce the film instead [2].
The film's release date is currently set for 2008.
November 2006, Stephen Susco, the screenwriter, has stated on his official website that The Grudge 3 has been talked about.
In The Grudge 2, the curse was spreading in three ways; the ghosts were increasing in numbers, just being close to someone cursed was now enough to become a victim, and it was spreading outside the borders of Tokyo and even Japan.
It is still not sure if the basic plot will be how the curse is stopped or if it will continue to grow instead. Takashi Shimizu said: "During the script meeting, our ideas didn't go anywhere good, and we couldn't come up with anything interesting to stop the curse, so if that's the case, I would rather just go for something that could never be stopped. But who knows, maybe something can be stopped in The Grudge 3."

Ju-on: The Grudge 3 (呪怨3) is the fifth film in the Japanese horror series. The film was officially announced on January 30, 2005 and was expected to be released sometime in 2006, but with The Grudge 2 filming and promotion it has been postponed. The earliest it will be released is 2008.
In an interview with director Takashi Shimizu, he states he is not certain about his decision to direct the final installment of the series. However, he says he wishes to create a new storyline that will differ from the Japanese version of the horror film.
