The Rev
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Rev (born James Owen Sullivan) on February 10, 1981, short for The Reverend Tholomew Plague is the drummer of Avenged Sevenfold.
[edit] Biography
He attended a Catholic school with Avenged Sevenfold lead singer M. Shadows(he got kicked out after two years). He started playing drums at the age of 5, and he began playing shows with adults at the age of 8. His first record was released when he was at the age of 18.
The Rev has a side project with Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates, and members from surf-punk band Ballistico, called Pinkly Smooth, in which he sings, and although not credited, recorded drums. [1] His stage name in the band is Rat Head. Recently, he was heard saying that he and guitarist Gates would be returning to the world of side projects, bringing some songs by Pinkly Smooth back, although he never stated that Pinkly Smooth would be the name of the band.
He was also formerly the drummer for third-wave ska band Suburban Legends, along with former Avenged Sevenfold bassist Justin Sane.
Two of his favorite bands are Rancid and The Transplants. Sullivan cites his influences as being Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph of Slayer, and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater.[2]
The Rev is engaged to Leana Silver, despite rumors that they married on Halloween of 2006. [3]
The Rev uses and is sponsored by DW Drums, although he appears in advertisements for DW's budget company, PDP. He is also sponsored by Sabian cymbals, Pro-Mark sticks and Evans drum heads.[4]
