The Voting of the Doomed
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Voting of the Doomed is an episode of Invader Zim, originally produced as episode 24A. While this episode did not air on Nickelodeon in the US, it aired on the US Nicktoons Network on July 22, 2006.
[edit] Plot
At a student assembly at the Skool, the obviously brainwashed, disturbingly cheerful class president raves about the Skool, but then begins to talk about the apparently disgusting school toilets. The girl is then taken away by security guards, and a skool election begins.
Zim decides to run in interest of world conquest (he'll be one step closer to ruler of Earth). Dib decides not to run, but instead becomes campaign manager for the other candidate Willy. In a debate, fed Dib's words through a walkie-talkie, Willy easily wins, and Zim is defeated.
However, as it turns out, Willy is brainwashed by a laser from the principal, and proceeds to talk in a British accent about how the skool is great. Zim then thanks Dib for saving him from Willy's dismal fate. Dib just says, "I hate you" and GIR cheerfully says "salted nuts!" and they shoot out of his head. Moments later, Gaz is seen eating nuts maniacally out of GIR's head.
[edit] Trivia/Goofs
- During the "awkward silence portion" of the debate, Zim is not wearing his contact lenses (although if you look closely, you can see that his wig is still on).
- This episode marks the first time Willy actually speaks.
- Near the end Willy appears in the audience even though he is up on stage.
- It was said in the episode commentary that Willy made the bitemark in his own ear.
- Willy appeared in Bolognius Maximus, but this is the first time he speaks.
- On the ballot box, the words "VOTE OR DON'T" are written in red letters, a spoof of "Eat or Don't" from Jhonen Vasquez's comic, I Feel Sick.
- Near the end you see the kid with pink eye in the audiance from the episode Vindicted
- This episode contains a few nods to the T.V. series "The Prisoner". Music for this episode is based on the music from the BBC series "The Prisoner" episode "Free For All", where number 6 runs against number 2 for control of the village.
- When Willy wins the election, he speaks with a British accent as he departs.
- Dib volunteers to help Willy, who is an incoherent candidate. In "The Prisoner" "Free for All" episode, number 6 is given an incoherent woman to assist him in his campaign.
