[edit] Plot
The episode opens with GIR running wildly around the house screaming, "I'm running!", he then jumps out of the doggie suit and yells "I'm naked!" He jumps down a chute to the lab and continues running as Zim explains that it's time to finally upgrade his guidance chip. GIR exclaims, "I don't need it!" as he runs into a wall. After a quick installation (after removing the beehive GIR's been storing in his head) and initial testing, Zim decides that a field test is in order. He decides to go for a walk in the nearby city and get as lost as possible then have GIR direct them home with his new chip. He also decides to try out his new disguise, which consists of a white beard, a hat with a flower in it, and a trench coat.
They venture into the city and get lost as planned. When Zim feels they're lost enough, he tells GIR to point the way home. GIR nervously points to one direction then another, unsure of which way to go. When Zim asks why, GIR informs him that he left the "guide-y...chippy thingy..." at home to make room for a cupcake (which he then eats, only to declare "I miss you cupcake" a few seconds later). Zim then tries to make a compass out of some scrap metal but is thwarted by the fact that GIR is a powerful magnetic source. They then try to take a bus home, not realizing they need money. After being thrown off, Zim tries to watch the sun long enough for him to determine which direction is west. This fails as well, with the sun's rays frying Zim's eyeballs. Blinded, Zim decides to wait for the skin on his eyes to grow back. Many hours later, Zim's vision returns and they head off to earn some money. Having seen a number of street performers earning money dancing and doing tricks, they try putting on a show at a park. Their collection hat fills quickly, especially after a small man who looks remarkably like Zim in his new disguise dumps a large wad of bills in. Now with the money they need, they get on a bus. Zim, however, is quickly driven to hysteria by the offensiveness of the other bus riders, including a mean-looking, drooling baby, a crying woman, and a clown.
More frustrated than ever, Zim decides to get to a high place and try looking for his house that way. They enter a tall building, which is actually a bank lobby. The bank, unfortunately for Zim, has just been robbed by the little man who looked so much like him. When the cops see Zim, they automatically assume he's the robber and charge after him. Zim runs to the nearest stairway and, using the spider legs from his PAK, quickly makes it to the roof carrying GIR. He continues across the roof and nearly jumps off the building. At the last second, his spider legs grab onto the ledge and tuck them in under the overhang. After scanning the skyline, he decides which way to go and tells GIR to activate his jets and fly them home. GIR's jets flare on, Zim jumps on his back, and they zoom off, nearly colliding with a police helicopter. GIR's jets quickly start to sputter though, and suddenly shut down completely. The two plummet to earth, landing in a dumpster. Zim demands to know why they fell and GIR, sounding slightly annoyed, informs him that he emptied the jet fuel to make room for the tuna (which he slurps down). Finally, they hail a cab. Seemingly doomed to never make it home again, they wind up in Mexico in front of a carne (meat) store with GIR dancing with the locals as Zim stares blankly ahead.
[edit] Trivia
- When Zim sits down on the bus, the baby next to him looks uncannily like Stewie Griffin from the show Family Guy. Vasquez even points this out in the DVD commentary for the episode.
- There is a sign that reads "Z?", a common symbol in Vasquez's work for insomnia, which he and his creation Johnny The Homicidal Maniac both have.
- Originally, the unnamed part of the city at the end had a 'Welcome to Mexico' sign visible, which is mentioned on the DVD commentary several times.
- At the scene when Zim is going through the trash can, you can see that the sign across the street at the shop reads "Astronauts, Spacecraft, Bolts".
- At certain times in the episode Zim can be seen without his gloves but it is possible it is an error on the part of the the coloring department.
- This is the first episode with a 'poop cola' can in it (Not counting the Pilot episode).
- When Gir says that he is running if you find something and look closely, you will see a picture of Bloody Gir for the first two pics
- The man panhandeling by doing the moonwalk is Micheal Jackson according to here [1]
- When the skin grows back over Zims eyes it grows back as his contact lenses, not his usual red irken eyes.
