[edit] List of Germans

Themanwithoutapast, why don't you join the discussion on the List of Germans at Talk:List_of_Germans about who is considered German. In my opinion, Schubert was both German and Austrian. Austria was part of Germany when he was born in 1797, and when he died, there was no German country, but Austria was still a member of the German Confederation. --Chl 12:53, 6 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Peer review request archived

The peer review request you submitted for the article Anschluss has been archived, in accordance with the request removal policy, due to the fact that the article has also been submitted as a featured article candidate. If the article does not gain Featured Article status, then the peer review request may be resubmitted after the FAC request is no longer active. --Allen3 talk 14:47, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Polish September Campaign

Tnx for the comments, I'd appreciate your help with the image sorting as per my reply in FAC. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 11:31, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

I have asked User:Halibutt to provide information regarding images he uploaded (bzura.jpg, PZL P.11c.jpg, Warsaw siege4.jpg, Warsaw siege1.jpg, Warsaw siege2.jpg) and User:Adam Carr for Ac.corridor.jpg = you may want to tell them what info is missing for our copyright purposes. German Soviet.jpg states it is a screenshot, and I thought those can be used freely? Ribbentrop Molotow.jpg and Cios w Plecy Dziennik Chicagoski 19 Wrzesien 1939.jpg are more problematic, as the User:Emax seems to have left Wikipedia few months ago, so what can we do with them? As for German_Troops_In_Warsaw.jpg, it has a source - www.archives.gov - so is it or is not Public Domain (Work of the United States Government? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 19:19, 19 May 2005 (UTC)
Halibutt has done some work on images he uploaded and others (see User_talk:Piotrus#Polish_September_Campaign_-_Pics for details), could you see if the number of controversial images is now smaller? I'd be happy to remove the few remaining controversial ones - as I wrote, it would be a waste to have the otherwise-good article fail FAC due to two or three disputed images, don't you think so?--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 09:51, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Anschluss

I support now, sorry I had not checked on your responce earlier. From my experience, it is useful to post on commenters talk page when you reply to make sure they can change the vote ASAP :) If Raul doesn't reverse his decision I'll support during the next FAC round. Good job. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus Talk 10:43, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Thanks. In the future I will react earlier via a post on the talk page. Themanwithoutapast 12:53, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Anschluss

Congratulations on getting Anschluss to featured-article status! SlimVirgin (talk) 05:46, Jun 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Australia FAC

I apologise if my comments seemed aggressive yesterday, something else had aggravated me. I agree that it'd be nice that there was some content consistency within the sections on featured countries, but there isn't, for example the breakdown of economic activity doesn't rate a mention in the South Africa article. I mentioned in Australia since I think it’s interesting that primary production contributes relative little to GDP but makes up most of the exports. I'll tinker with it a bit more. Thanks for your comments. --nixie 23:15, 19 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Anschluss removed as FA!

Anschluss is undegoing a heated FARC battle right now, perhaps you want to check it outBorisblue 6 July 2005 13:01 (UTC)

Thx for telling me, but I gave this article up a while ago - I already invested too much time in it and it is just too controversial - there are ultra-right winged, pro-Austrians and anti-Austrians (user:Fenice and user:Buffyg to name some) at work there editing and criticising... it is just not worth the effort any more. Sorry, but it appears that wikipedia is not the right place for articles about 20th century history. Themanwithoutapast 6 July 2005 17:31 (UTC)

[edit] Angara payload capacity

Hi, what is your source for Angara A5/KVRB 28,5 t LEO payload capacity? For a LEO mission there will be no upper stage on the rocket, either Breeze nor KVRB. And according to launch provider (the GTO payload is not correct given there!) and rocket manufacturer the LEO payload is 24,5 t. --Bricktop 9 July 2005 12:35 (UTC)

Actually it was the esa site [1] - but might be wrong (it does not specifically address that a specification of the angara will have 28.5 ton capability, it just states heavy lifters 24.5 to 28.5), so please set it back to 24,5 t. Sorry. Themanwithoutapast 9 July 2005 13:25 (UTC)
Ok. 28,5 may be the payload of a some years ago proposed Angara version with a LOX/LH2 second stage (UKVB). But currently there are no plans for such a stage. --Bricktop 9 July 2005 13:55 (UTC)

[edit] Alfred Jansa

After reading today's featured article, Anschluss, I have tried to add to it a bit by creating an entry for Alfred Jansa. Maybe you have some time to look it over? I do not understand enough German to expand it much more. --Tony Hecht 21:13, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem RE: Image:1Ariane5LaunchArianespace.jpg

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:1Ariane5LaunchArianespace.jpg. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law. We need you to specify two things on the image description page:

  • The copyright holder, and
  • The copyright status

The copyright holder is usually the creator. If the creator was paid to make this image, then their employer may be the copyright holder. If several people collaborated, then there may be more than one copyright holder. If you created this image, then you are the copyright holder.

Because of the large number of images on Wikipedia, we've sorted them using image copyright tags. Just find the right tag corresponding to the copyright status of this image, and paste it onto the image description page like this: {{TAGHERE}}.

There are 3 basic ways to licence an image on Wikipedia:

  • The copyright holder can also release their work into the public domain. See here for examples.
  • Images from certain sources are automatically released into the public domain. This is true for the United States, where the Wikimedia servers are located. (See here for images from the government of the USA and here for other governments.) However, not all governments release their work into the public domain. One exception is the UK (see here for images from the UK government). Non-free licence governments are listed here.
  • Also, in some cases, an image is copyrighted but allowed on Wikipedia because of fair use. To see a) if this image qualifies, and b) if so, how to tag it, see Wikipedia:Fair use.

For more information, see Wikipedia:Image copyright tags. Please remember that untagged images are likely to be deleted.

If you have uploaded other images without including copyright tags, please go back and tag them. Also, please tag all images that you upload in the future.

If you have any questions, just leave a message on my talk page. Thanks again. --WonYong 09:24, 30 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:1karl_landsteiner.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. [edit] Poll on 2006 CA election page

Hello, the poll deleted was actually an interactive poll on the WSJ website where you had to click on gubernatorial races and the state of California to see the results, which had Arnold Schwarzenegger at 44.5% and Phil Angelides at 44.6%.--Folksong 19:06, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

  • Ok, at first I did not see that from the link that was provided and for a normal poll it just looked wired (as normal polls have a certain inaccuracy and therefore do not give decimals). Themanwithoutapast 12:59, 3 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Messner Mirko.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Messner Mirko.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Wikimedia Commons

Hello, I saw the photo image:ISS Agreements hi.jpg was uploaded by you locally on the english wikipedia. When images are uploaded locally somewhere, that means big trouble for other projects as they cant use that image. The soulution: Wikimedia Commons, a shared library of images that all Wikimedia projects can use. A image uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons can be used simultanously on the english wikipedia, the german wikipedia, the norwegian wikipedias and even the Japaneese Wikipedia withouth contributors spending time uploading it more than once. Sorry to sound like a seller selling a product, but please consider uploading ISS Agreements hi.jpg to the Wikimedia Commons, setting up an account is as easy as when you created this one. --AndersL 16:52, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:1at2007sp.jpg

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:1at2007sp.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:1at2007sp.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello themanwithoutapast

Thanks for the article on Ludwig Purtscheller. Even today climbing 1700 peaks is notable, to accomplish this before 1900 was really trailblazing.

I would like to learn more about the peaks Ludwig climbed in the alps - if you know of anyone who tracks this kind of information for Austria or the Alps, perhaps they could help me ?

Thank you, Andy, oldadit @ iname.com
