Tony Bruno (born June 13, 1952) is nationally syndicated sports radio talk show host. He is currently heard on the Sporting News Radio network.
Bruno has had successful runs as a talkshow host at WCAU (now WPHT) in Philadelphia and KFI in Los Angeles, but has been involved in sports coverage and reporting since 1972. In Philadelphia, he helped fledging sports station [WIP-AM|610 WIP]]'s Morning Guys show explode as one of America's most successful local sports shows with Angelo Cataldi and Al Morganti. When ESPN decided to launch its own radio network in 1992, they tagged Bruno to be the first voice ever heard on ESPN RADIO. Bruno co-hosted ESPN Radio's Gamenight on weekends with Chuck Wilson and Keith Olbermann for 7 years while continuing to co-host at WIP on weekdays. In 1995, Bruno chose ESPN over WIP when deciding to choose 1 job over the 7 day a week grind and left WIP to launch the Bruno-Golic Morning Show with former NFL Player Mike Golic.
In the fall of 1999 - after philosophical differences with new suits at ESPN - Bruno resigned as co-host of the morning show with Mike Golic and stayed out of radio for 7 months before moving to Los Angeles to launch Fox Sports Radio network. Once again, Bruno was the main cog as top host for an up and coming sports radio network. Bruno hosted The Tony Bruno Extravaganza morning program with Andrew Siciliano. During this time, Bruno was frequently a guest host and regular contributor on Fox Sports Network's The Best Damn Sports Show Period.
Bruno would eventually leave Fox after rejecting a contract renewal agreement in September of 2004 despite carrying that operation for 4 years. In April, 2005, he signed with Sporting News Radio after assurances he could remain in Los Angeles and not move to Chicago to do his national show. Once again, Bruno was off the air for 7 months while sifting thru many local-only radio options. His new sidekick, straight man, and on-air foil is Mark Willard.
In addition, Bruno is the host of EA Sports Radio, a feature that appeared on the 2005, 2006, and 2007 versions of the Madden NFL video game. The show has Bruno listing statistics and accomplishments from the previous "week" of play. In addition, he "interviews" players and coaches, takes calls from "listeners", and even asks trivia questions.
Bruno is a native of South Philadelphia, and now resides in Venice, California. He is now single with two grown sons and a daughter.
Launched both the ESPN Radio Network in 1992 from Bristol, Connecticut and eight years later launched FOX Sports Radio in Los Angeles.
Attended Temple University in Philadelphia, majoring in Political Science and Journalism.
In 2004, Bruno was the only on-air personality to be named in the "101 Best Things in LA" in Los Angeles Magazine's "Best of 2004" issue.
Since the mid 1990's has done a popular daily half hour radio show with Gary Radnich on KNBR 680 San Francisco, California called "The Best 30 minutes in Radio" with the nickname 'The Fabulous Bruno'.
Help start two national sports radio networks (ESPN and Fox) and was brought in to save a third (Sporting News).
Likes to lampoon "Jim Rome" on his shows (especially his San Francisco show).
Lived at 'Mariners Village' the famous apartment complex in Marina del Rey, California in the early to mid 2000's.
Frequent guest and guest host on "The Best Damn Sports Show" on Fox Sports Net.
Has lived/worked radio in Philadelphia, Penn., Birmingham, Al., and Los Angeles, California, but his most popular show is the one he does for KNBR San Francisco where he has never lived.
