Torre del Greco is a town and comune in the Province of Naples in the Italian region of Campania, with a population of 90,607 (2001 census). The people speak a particular dialect called Torrese, and are sometimes called Corallini because of the plentiful coral in the nearby sea.
Arab, Greek, and Spanish traditions influence the city's culture.
[edit] Torrese
Torrese is influenced highly with Greek and Spanish words added into their dialect which is considered not understandable to northern Italians. The word for girl and boy in Torrese, for example, are guagliona and guaglione, respectively. Both words stem from the Ancient Greek words for boy and girl found in the Greek island of Rhodes, whence the Neapolitan Greeks came from. The Italian words for boy and girl are ragazzo and ragazza.
