[edit] Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia.

Here are some tasks you can do:

You might find these links helpful in creating new pages or helping with the above tasks: How to edit a page, How to write a great article, Naming conventions, Manual of Style. You should read our policies at some point too.

If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian!

 • You can sign your name using three tildes, like this: ~~~. If you use four, you can add a datestamp too.
 • If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted.

[edit] Pokémon

Again, welcome! - UtherSRG 00:26, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Hello and welcome! Please read our Wikipedia:copyright policy before you upload any more Pokemon images: we need to stay clear of copyright troubles so we can keep our content free for everyone under the GFDL licence.
-- The Anome 01:31, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Since you haven't replied, I'll just delete the images you've uploaded so far, and that will remove the problem for now until we can get the copyright clearance sorted for these images -- we can retrieve them again if they can be cleared OK.
-- The Anome 01:44, 5 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Please note that our image use policy is not GFDL only and fair use images such as those you uploaded are fine. If you happen to encounter an image which you believe is possibly infringing, it should be reported at Wikipedia:Possible copyright infringements, not deleted immediately, as The Anome did with some which you uploaded.

[edit] Mew Truck

You might want to double-check your sources on how to get Mew - I've heard that the surfing next to the S.S. Anne thing is false. - Bulbaboy 05:31, 15 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Actually, Bulbaboy, I have some proof to that respect. I haven't tried it myself because I think it would be dumb to restart my game just for that, but I've seen people who've (somehow) gotten the whole map of the area and there is, in fact, something (a truck) found by sufing East of the SS Anne pier. Many websites affirm that this "truck" is where you get Mew.
---Fern Feb 15

Actually, I'm aware of the object, and I've heard that's where you get Mew - the thing is, I've also heard that you can't get Mew there, at least not in the American version (I have heard it's possibly to get Mew somewhere in the Japanese version, but I could be wrong...). I suppose the thing to do is for me to start a new game - I think my Blue version doesn't have anything meaningful on it - and test it myself. And, btw, I've added this page to my watchlist, so no need to message me. - Bulbaboy 22:15, 15 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Ok. Good luck. I've changed the page (a while ago actually) so that it says "allegedly" so it's not definately true, just because people. suppose it's so.
---Fern 23:17, 15 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, and I've changed the fake codes and unobtainable Pokémon sections of Pokémon to reflect the fact that it may be possible, or may not, to get it that way. - Bulbaboy 02:43, 16 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Well, I've tested it (see Talk:Pokémon), and it didn't work. I DID, however, get Mew - so no need to despair. - Bulbaboy 06:46, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Translations

I've just added my name to the list of available translators so I thought I'd add this little subtitle here.
---Fern 21:55, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Do you have any interest in translating the material from es:Francisco de Quevedo? I'm out of my depth there; I've knocked off everything else currently requested at Wikipedia:Translation into English for translation from Spanish.
-- Jmabel 07:19, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

OK. I'm translating it now.
---Fern 18:37, 12 Mar 2004 (UTC)

It is possible to get mew in america in cearalan city, its a glitch look it up on supercheats.com for more info.

[edit] Meowth

Hi I just happened upon meowth and saw that you'd signed your username in the article. You shouldn't ever do this (articles belong to everyone), just use your signature on talk pages and other discussions, but not in the article itself. :) Cheers, fabiform | talk 02:06, 19 Mar 2004 (UTC).

Where did you get that it was forbidden to do this? I never knew. If it is, then I'm truly sorry.

[edit] WikiProject Pokédex

Hey, I've seen you editing several Pokémon articles (I should know; I've talked about the S.S. Anne Mew method with you), and I wonder if you like to help with WikiProject Pokédex... It would be nice to have more than one person working on making sure all those entries are decent, after all (see Starmie or Luvdisc to see what I mean...). - Bulbaboy 07:11, 22 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Sure! I'd love to participate in that project. I'll help in any way I can. I think I could also start creating an identicall version of this project for the Spanish version of Wikipedia. However, my pokémon webpage will always come first. As you can see, I haven't updated it in a while do to a sudden wave of school projects and tests.
--Fern 18:49, 23 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Great, the more the merrier :). Well, what I'm trying to do right now is actually get all the existing entries decent, and consistent... Or you could provide the metric weights/lengths for the Pokémon (I've only got the American version, and don't know metric...). Or, just find yourself a job, or do general maintenance. Also, if you've got any opinions about how the pages should be formatted, leave a note - or change the standards (though you may as well leave a note anyway, to explain). Now, be quiet and don't talk to me! Pokémon Colosseum just came out and I need to get Houndoom :P. - Bulbaboy 04:30, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Congratulations on aquiring the Pokémon Colosseum! Sound Effect: Audience clapping and cheering ;-) (might talk to you later about that) However, it seems like the metric measurements are only available in the japanese versions of the games (I downloaded the Japanese GBA ROM of Pokémon Fire Red to take it for a "Test Drive". It's really good, graphic-wize, but I can't understand a word of what they're saying which makes it really hard to guess if they're talking about Leppa Berries or Gym Badges) and in the japanese version they don't seem to be very acurate, either. Practically every pokémon I saw measured 50 cm! It seems like we're going to have to convert them.
I think the current "template" is rather good, though I don't see it fitting into the Meowth page where the second half of the article is entirely about the Pokémon Anime character, and when I wrote it (that was my first article on Wikipedia, by the way) I couldn't think of anything else to put about the "species".
One thing I think really needs to be done is to get pages for all the starter pokémon (for example, there's a page for Charmander, but not for Cyndaquil nor Torchic!) and there's also the pages (like the ones you pointed out above) that have absoloutely no description on them! If making pages were that easy, people would write hundreds of articles that said things like "Regious Canis an animal."(end of that lame article) Or for another example "Bistum Betularie is a moth." (end of that poor article)
However, there are others that are excellent but could do with a little more detail, and the little evolution side-table you put on the Pokédex Project page.
--Fern 08:24, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Sure, go ahead and ask me all you want - just so long as it's in email (unless it pertains to Wikipedia), and you don't put massive spoilers such as "Has ____ died yet?". But that should be obvious. Really? You don't have a Spanish version with a metric measurements or something? Oh well, we'll just convert them, as you said.
Well, it's easy to see how the template fits Meowth! Just add some more stuff about the species in general, put the infobox, and the either put the stuff about the anime Meowth in a seperate section, or move it to another article (such as Team Rocket).
Okay, so you concentrate on the starters, then, and I'll fix up the really bad articles. Well, to be fair, the *original* versions of Staryu and Starmie did actually have *some* content, although it was basically just TCG attack names (and the TCG doesn't reuse a whole lot of attacks!). And, of course, the first version of Ekans was obviously done by someone who knows a decent amount of HTML - but forgot one of the most important things about HTML: ALWAYS double-check the page when you're done (the link using <a href> doesn't work). Well, talk to you later. - Bulbaboy 03:40, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)

one thing I'm also doing is adding picture where they're needed. Hardly any pages have them! Plus, ofcourse, info from the game as well as from the anime.
--Fern 08:59, 26 Mar 2004 (UTC)
I finally decided to dedicate a day to doing the starters that I had proposed myself on doing, and I've finished them! Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Torchic, Treeko, and Mudkip now have their articles.
By the way, Good news! I found spanish versions of the games and they have metric measurements on them! I think I'll better contact you by e-mail on something about the Pokémon Colosseum
--Fern 18:01, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hello, Fern! A great job you're doing so far on adding Pokemon articles to Wikipedia. However, a word of advice if I may. A well-written Wikipedia article allows for a user to quickly identify the context of an article right off the bat. To allow this, we typically follow a few simple rules --

 • Put the first mention of the article's subject in boldface
 • Put context links in the first sentence or two of the article. For Wikipedia Project:Pokedex, such articles would probably include video game and Pokemon.

Here's an edit I did to the first paragraph of one of your recent articles, Sandshrew. As you can see, I changed very little.

Sandshrew is a fairly common Ground-type Pokémon in the video game Pokémon. As its name implies, it likes sandy areas such as underground tunnels and deserts. It likes to curl itself up into a little ball and roll like a hedgehog.

If you follow these guidelines as you continue building the Pokedex, it'll be even easier to read and understand, and will match smoothly with the rest of Wikipedia!

Good Luck! Alba 01:39, 7 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Oops! He he. I guess I forgot about those little details in my worry about getting the pokédex definition right. If you think those mistakes are bad, you should've seen my first version of the Mudkip article. If I remember correctly, the Pokédex definition was that of Chikorita, the picture was of Treecko, and the number was of Totodile! a total mix up! (Or was it another one of my recent articles that had that?)
--Fern 01:47, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

Just wanted to make a personal note that on this date I founded the Pokémon Stubs list.

[edit] Image

Is that image of the guy who's May's brother (forget his name) copyrighted?
ugen64 22:05, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

Which image specifically? I don't know which one you're talking about. I've probably uploaded a kilogram of images today. Could you provide a link to it or put it here?
--Fern 22:43, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)
If you're refering to this image, then I'm sure it isn't because I practically created it today (true, some could call it editing of copyrighted images, but if you compare it to the original, there's the huge differance of this image being only of Max and Jirachi.)
--Fern 23:01, Apr 7, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling

Hi, it seems that in many of your edits you misspell beginning (it has two Ns). Not a big deal, but wanted to let you know. Thanks, Wmahan. 04:35, 2004 May 10 (UTC)

That is quite possible since I sometiems type rthr qkly so my writing might have some typos. thank you for correcting them.
--Fern 19:35, May 10, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Cross-Project

Many of the Pokémon articles discuss something specific to the games (eg. a Pokémon's attacks, and where to get them), which are not necessarily encyclopedic, but good for a game guide. Would you be interested in a Wikibooks (http://wikibooks.org) project to comple a definitive Pokémon game guide?

kelvSYC 19:33, 15 May 2004 (UTC)

Yes, I would; but I don't know if I'll have much time utill July for such a thing.
--Fern 19:54, May 15, 2004 (UTC)

It's up at wikibooks:Pokémon. The layout might be a nightmare to wade through, but it's because I stick by my rule of NEVER using a data table for layout (for layout tables, I use a bunch of divs with CSS). kelvSYC 04:19, 25 May 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Cairn terrier image

Hi; you uploaded this image of a Cairn Terrier but didn't give its source or any licensing/copyright info, such as whether it's public domain or GFDL. Could you please take a moment and add that info so that we can continue to use the photo? Thanks! Elf | Talk 04:12, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)

I frankly don't remember the image, much less where I got it from. Maybe it was from a free clip art gallery? I just don't remember at all, sorry.

[edit] esTotW

Since you put your name down as a spanish to english traslator, i thought you might be interested in the new Spanish translation of the week collaboration project. This weeks collaboration is Género chico.

[edit] Image:Mew and Mewtwo.jpg

[edit] Image:Mew and Mewtwo.jpg

Hi there! Thanks for adding the image Image:Mew and Mewtwo.jpg. It currently doesn't have an image copyright tag, and I was hoping that you would add one as untagged images may be deleted eventually. (You can use gfdl to license it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) Thanks! --David Iberri | Talk 18:26, Oct 29, 2004 (UTC)

Would you do the same for Image:Mew.gif as well? Thanks! --David Iberri | Talk 18:29, Oct 29, 2004 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't remember the exact source of the Mew & Mewtwo image, but as you can probably notice, it's a screen capture somebody made of the TV show, else from the DVD. I'm not that good at law so I don't know if this means it's OK to use or not. If it isn't, I can try to take a screenshot from the Johto GBA video and claim it as fair use for being a screenshot.

As for the Mew image, as I stated when I uploaded it, I originally took it from Pokémon.com's Pokédex. Untill Johto appeared, they had an HTML pokédex (not a flash one) where the pokémon appeared as a series of gifs with the description to one side of it. During those days, in an attempt to study all the Pokémon and learn all their names, I saved all of these 150+ images on my computer. Ultimately, the Johto Pokédex replaced the Kanto Pokédex, and those images were never to be seen again on the net.

When someone asked for a picture of Mew by itself, I searched the internet and didn't find a good one. Then was when I remembered that I had this image in my PC and uploaded it. Again, I don't know what this means for the copyright status since this image cannot be found anywhere else (and if you do, it was probably copied off from here) nor is it edited from a larger image that many people could have access to. --Fern 22:06, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Unverified images

Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:

 • Image:Igglybuff.png

I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. Peter O. (Talk, automation script) 21:21, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)

P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Nidoarn (M).png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Nidoarn (M).png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Pokémon_Technical_Machine.png

Warning sign This file may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Pokémon_Technical_Machine.png. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. When you use a generic fair use tag such as fair use or article name, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sandstein 09:56, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
