Tyson Granger, known in Japan as Takao Kinomiya (木ノ宮タカオ Kinomiya Takao?), is the main character of the anime and manga series of Beyblade.
Tyson is a strong-willed teen who's not afraid to speak his mind and in so doing, he seems to get into more trouble than most kids his age. He seems to be a very emotional person, and quite often worries about his friends, causing him to become angry. Tyson isn't a born leader, yet because of his magnetic personality and self-confidence, people seem to gravitate toward him. No situation is too risky for Tyson, and he often relies on nothing more than luck. His style of playing is aggressive and all in all, Tyson is one fierce competitor.
Tyson's Beyblade, the Dragoon Galaxy, uses special attacks that take on the form of a Dragon, and is one of the fiercest, more powerful Beyblades around. It has the wind element. Dragoons are known to get better with each model possibly describing how Tyson develops as he grows up and learns from his mistakes. Its special attack is Galaxy Storm. Later in the series, Kenny gives Dragoon Galaxy an upgrade. With the new upgrade, Tyson receives Dragoon Galaxy Turbo. Its special attacks are Galaxy Turbo Twister and the Twin Tornado Attack (which can only be used with Daichi's Beyblade). Tyson's bit-beast is Dragoon.
After he defeated Tala, Tyson became the World Champion. He had many rivals since then, including Kai, Ozuma, Kane, Daichi and Brooklyn.
Tyson was voiced by Motoko Kumai in the Japanese version and Marlowe Gardiner-Heslin in the English version.

[edit] Family
Tyson is the youngest in his family. He is the latest in a long line of Japanese Kendo warriors.
His father is an archaeologist, who appears in the later episodes of season one. Tyson's mother died when he was young.
Tyson has an older brother, named Hiro Granger in the English anime and Hitoshi in the Japanese manga. In the manga, he has restricted time with Tyson due to him being an archaeologist himself, therefore is usually away on digs with their father.
Tyson lives with his paternal grandfather, Ryu Granger, in a beautiful dojo located in Bay City, a fictitious suburb of Tokyo.
Tyson calls Ryu "Grandpa" or "Grandpa Ryu". Ryu is a Martial Arts teacher, and despite his well-meaning nature, constantly pressures Tyson to train in martial arts, especially Kendo.
[edit] Manga
In the manga series, Tyson's beyblade does not get upgraded by switching parts after he gets Dragoon F. Instead, Tyson's beyblade will transform on its own into a different beyblade due to a Dragon Part he added. For example, Tyson has Dragoon F. With the Dragon Part, Dragoon F will become Dragoon V.
[edit] Video Games
Tyson also starred in a Japanese fighting game called DreamMix TV World Fighters, and could use his beyblade, the Dragoon Galaxy as an attack. Tyson also upgrades his beyblade to Dragoon MS.
[edit] Trivia
- According to Japanese sources, Tyson was the most popular character in Japan.[citation needed]
- Tyson is the only member of the Bladebreakers who is not an only child.
- Tyson isn't good at Beyblade customisation and lacks common sense sometimes, which would make people think he is a jock of sorts.
- Tyson is famous for his sense of humour especially during season one where he is constantly making fun of everybody. His sense of humour constantly dwindles after each season and by the end of the series as he becomes more introverted and more serious about his responsibility as the best Beyblader in the world.
- Tyson is a really popular person inside the series. He a lot of fans even when he was an amateur. When he first won the regional tournament, many people picked up Beyblading just to be like him and defeat him. He has a lot of fans in his school as shown in Beyblade V-Force, much to Hilary's dismay. Although he is popular, he doesn't seem to have many close friends outside of his beyblading ones. His closest friend throughout the series has been Kenny whom he goes to school with.
- Tyson doesn't make friends easily because of his aggressive nature, but he usually leaves a profound effect on the ones he does, completely changing their attitudes and way of life.
- In V-Force, Tyson is often late to school and runs to school on a seemingly daily basis. He seems to be a very fast runner.
- Tyson seems to get his strange skills from his Dragoon Beyblade, such as being able to run fast and fly at the end of G-Revolution.
(Note: In G-Revolution Tyson flies at the end.... but it was not related with Dragoon exactly. It was shown that it was a place created by Brooklyn's mind. Since it was just a mind game and one could do what he thought he was able to do , Tyson flew because he thought he could.)
- Tyson and Hilary seem to have a Yusuke/Keiko relationship as she constantly seems to reprimand him from not paying attention or studying in school but it can be seen as implying that they like each other.
- Tyson is the only one of the Bladebreakers to never temporarily lose his bit-beast to someone else.
- The Blue Dragon (Seiryuu) and the Red Phoenix (Suzaku) are often depicted as the embodiment of wedded bliss. (Astrology, Chinese/Japanese Mythology)
- In the end of the Beyblade manga (vol. 14), Takao has a son named Makoto Kinomiya. The name of his wife is unknown.
- Tyson's Dragoon beyblades are one of the few Beyblades to use the left spin gear (the team F-Dynasty's beyblades can also use left spin) .
