The United States was the host nation of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. It was the nineteenth time that Team USA participated, having boycotted the 1980 Summer Olympics.
These Olympic Games were quite unique for the United States because their athletes were competing not only in their home country, but also in the home state of their president, Ronald Reagan, who himself opened The Games, [1] becoming the first American president to open an Olympic games held in the U.S. (However, it wouldn't be until the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City when an American president opened a Winter Olympics held in the U.S.)
