This WikiProject aims primarily to present all the wikipedia articles about chess in a coherent fashion. This includes the coherence of the following aspects:

• Chess diagrams
• Annotation of chess games
• Notation

Note that according to the Wikimedia commons, the current "standard" for Chess diagrams on Wikipedia is the chess diagram template; see the link for more information.

Having uniform chess diagrams will be easy once LaTeX chess support is here. Word has it that it will soon be implemented on wikipedia. It is already implemented on http://wikisophia.org. For Examples see [1] & [2]. At the moment there is a problem with security risk, hopefully this will get sorted out. The other problem will be displaying diagrams with arrows as are present in Chess tactics — for the time being they'll probably just have to remain pictures.

However, one of the more useful activies, chess games interspersed with commentary, should be possible with unlimited diagrams.

{{Chess-WikiProject}}, infra, should be added to the talk page of any chess-related article, in order that the WikiProject might find articles on the improvement of which to focus.

• A new user just started to create articles on chess openings from the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings. See Here for his contributions. (I am not a member of this project (yet), just letting you guys know) You'll have to decide what to do with these pages, how to categorize them, etc. Danski14 00:13, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

• Timeline of chess need some work, but not a lot. There are a lot of things that need links. Also, I think some things should be omitted (such as Euwe beating Alekhine) and there are some omissions of important things. Bubba73 (talk), 16:40, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

People want to delete Chess-opening-stub and the Category:Chess Opening Stubs. See Wikipedia:Stub types for deletion/Log/2007/January/20 for discussion. Now there are about 79 chess opening stubs in the category. About 57 of the articles are sub-variations of openings, especially of the Ruy Lopez and Sicilian. Most are only one or two paragraphs, and don't say much other than the moves that are called this variation. The feeling of the discussion is that these opening stubs that are sub-variations of openings should be merged into the main aritcles and the stubs deleleted (and redirected). I agree. But it looks like it will be a lot of work. Are there members of the project that are willing to work on this? Bubba73 (talk), 03:45, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
