Wikipedia:WikiProject China/Peer review

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The peer review department of the China WikiProject conducts peer review of articles on request. The primary objective is to encourage better articles by having contributors who may not have worked on articles to examine them and provide ideas for further improvement.

The peer review process is highly flexible and can deal with articles of any quality; however, requesting reviews on very short articles may not be productive, as there is little for readers to comment on.

All reviews are conducted by fellow editors—usually members of the China WikiProject. While there is a general intent to expand this process to allow for review by subject experts, the preparations for this are not yet complete.

[edit] Instructions

[edit] Requesting a review

  1. Add peer-review=yes to the {{WPCHINA}} project banner at the top of the article's talk page (see the project banner instructions for more details on the exact syntax).
  2. From there, click on the "request has been made" link that appears in the template. This will open a page to discuss the review of your article.
  3. Place === [[Name of nominated article]] === at the top.
  4. Below it, write your reason for nominating the article and sign by using four tildes (~~~~).
  5. Add {{Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Peer review/Name of nominated article}} at the top of the list of requests on this page.

[edit] Responding to a request

Everyone is encouraged to comment on any request listed here. To comment on an article, please add a new section (using ==== [[User:Your name|Your name]] ====) for your comments, in order to keep multiple responses legible.

[edit] Archiving

Reviews should be archived after they have been inactive for some time, or when the article is nominated as a featured article candidate. To archive a review:

  1. Replace peer-review=yes with old-peer-review=yes in the {{WPCHINA}} project banner template at the top of the article's talk page
  2. Move {{Wikipedia:WikiProject China/Peer review/Name of nominated article}} from this page to the current archive page.

[edit] Requests

[edit] Song Dynasty

I have poured a lot of work into this article, and I would like to get feedback from others who might be knowledgeable in Chinese history before setting it up as a candidate for Featured Article status.

Can't wait to hear the responses, --PericlesofAthens 06:30, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Some opinions:

  • A infobox would vastly improve the outlook of the article. Same applies to many other Chinese history-related articles.
  • The section organization could be improved. I would change it to something like this:

1 History

1.1 Founding of the Dynasty
1.1.2 Relations with the Liao
1.2 Reformation
1.2.1 Reformers and Conservatives
1.3 Jin invasion: Downfall of the Northern Song
1.4 Southern Song Dynasty
1.5 Mongol invasion: the end of the Song

2 Culture

2.1 Song Dynasty arts

3 Economy

4 Technology

4.1 Gunpowder
4.2 Block printing

5 Society

6 Notes

7 References

8 See Also

Something like this. Just a style proposal.

  • The lead section need to be adjusted and trimmed down as according to WP:LEAD. This is a problem for many other China-related articles.
  • There are currently no inline citations. For a topic like this, you need somewhere around 50 for the article to be considered for FA status. There should be also more notes on areas where needed.
  • It's rather awkward to have "Posthumous Names" section under the Emperors when all of them is listed as "too tedious". Either include the names (I know how long they are, but they won't go over two lines), or don't include the section.
  • The "See also" section is rather unorganized (random articles related to Song), doesn't have a steamed outline of what should be included at present.

Anyways, great work! Cheers! AQu01rius (User • Talk) 17:14, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] S.H.E

Many changes have been made to this article, including the adding of sources, as well as information on their musical style and influence. I know we're missing information on the Girls Dormitory section, so I would like to request to reviewers to temporarily ignore that section. I am looking for prose feedback, as well as feedback on what info seems inappropriate for a musical biography article. Also, I'm a bit conflicted on how to organize this article: by years (current article), or by type of career e.g. musical, television/acting (second version of current article). Yes, I know it's on my user page, but it would be unfair to just rearrange everything without prior discussion or commentary.

I'm also looking to boost this to GA, if not FA. In the latter case, I'd like feedback on what this article lacks to get FA status. Thanks. Pandacomics 00:46, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gwoyeu Romatzyh

I'd appreciate any comments or feedback on this article, which I've worked on for the last 6 weeks or so. I'd like to get it up to GA/A/FA standard if possible. --NigelG (or Ndsg) | Talk 14:48, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Zhou Tong (monk)

I've had this article peer reviewed twice by the general wiki populace, but nobody really seems to care about it. So I figured since WikiProject China has a banner on the article's talk page, you guys should review it as well. Fire away and be truthful! And if you see anything that's horribly wrong, FIX IT! Just don't delete any of the info without discussing it here or on my or the article's talk page first.

I also wanted to note that my description of Zhou Tong's part in Yue Fei's Fictional biography HERE is a bit choppy. Could someone rewrite it if they deem it necessary? If you need more info, I can provide it to you.

Before I go, I just want to note that I am very surprised that more people haven't tried to contribute to this article. Everybody loves Song Dynasty General Yue Fei, but no one really cares about his mystery teacher Jow Tong. Anyway, good luck!(Ghostexorcist 21:47, 29 December 2006 (UTC))

Amazing work! Should be a potential FA candidate with some work. I haven't done any real peer review in the past, so I may be incorrect:
  • The lead section is rather short, and it is only the first paragraph that summarize the article. The summary doesn't really summarize the entire article clearly in my opinion, as I only get to know that he is a teacher to certain figures. The second paragraph of the lead can be trasfered to a infobox like in this article.
  • The second section, "Yue Fei's biographies" looks kind of weird in the article. I think it might be better if you merge the content there into the "Background" section, and make the Background section stay as the second section of the article.
  • The "Skills" section looks kind of unorganized in style. It might be better if you sort it under section headers (====) and expand the short ones, "Chinese Bow", "18 Weapons of War", "Elephant Style" and "Chuojiao". Is it possible for you to find more information on those? Maybe you can talk more about what these skills are about.

That's it for now. Again, good work! AQu01rius (User • Talk) 04:04, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your comments. I've changed the page around to meet your suggestions. I've added an info box and merged the 'Background' and 'Yue Fei's Biographies' sections into one. I'll try my best to clean up the 'skills' section. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of info about Zhou Tong's involvement with the martial arts styles that I cited. The info covered is the only info I could find on the subject. I look forward to more comments from other readers.(Ghostexorcist 12:33, 30 December 2006 (UTC))

------------------------------------------------

I am only interested in digging for and then presenting the material in bulk. I admit my skill of ‘summarizing’ the entire page into a neat 3-4 paragraph lead is not very good. I would appreciate it if someone could do this for me. I've done the hardest part and found the info, now all you have to do is summarize it. Thank you in advance to anyone who attempts this! [edit] Battle of Wuhan

This article was a stub with three sentences before I expanded it in July. I currently want to do further research & writing on this topic, and was hoping to get some peer reviews first for the article. AQu01rius (User | Talk | Websites)  04:45, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Off to a good start. Lots of things to work on:
  • More citations throughout (ideally from reputable historical works more so than from primary sources).
  • Massive wikification would be appropriate; most of the units in question should (eventually) get their own articles.
  • The list of commanders in the infobox seems somewhat excessive; I'd trim it down to the major ones only.
  • The lead should grow in proportion to the article, reaching an eventual length of three or four paragraphs.

Overall, though, the most important thing is simply to add more material. This is obviously a major battle, and I'm guessing that there are enough sources available to expand the article significantly. Keep up the great work! Kirill Lokshin 02:23, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

This is improved, but still needs some work. It was one of the most significant battles of the second Sino-Japanese War, and can still use more detail. It also needs heavy citation througout. However, it is vastly improved, and I don't want to discourage an editor who put a great amount of effort into this! You have gotten mostly there - do on and finish it up! old windy bear 15:20, 11 November 2006 (UTC)
