William Eugene Beckett Jr. (b. February 11, 1985 in Libertyville, Illinois) is the lead singer of the band The Academy Is..., who are currently signed to Atlantic Records/Fueled by Ramen
With the help of Mike Carden, his bandmate, William wrote the songs and lyrics recorded on The Academy Is...'s debut album "Almost Here". William plays the tambourine and guitar in addition to singing and drumming. Before The Academy Is..., William performed in a solo-project called Remember Maine. Their debut, "The Last Place You Look", was released by LLR Recordings in 2002.
William currently resides in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
In 2006 Beckett and bandmate Mike Carden were featured in Fall Out Boy's music video, A Little Less 16 Candles, A Little More Touch Me, in which Beckett played an evil vampire, the leader of the Dandies (a British based gang of vampires). His apprentice in the video was played by Panic! At The Disco's Brendon Urie. Beckett would also return in later 2006 to be featured under the same caricature, a vampire, in Fall Out Boy's video for This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race. In The Academy Is...'s latest video We've Got a Big Mess on Our Hands, William makes a phone call to Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy and a shorter version of the call with no audio is in the Fall Out Boy video Thnks Fr Th Mmrs. "William Beckett" is shown on the caller id.
He also provided vocals and was featured in the video for Cobra Starship's "Snakes on a Plane (Bring It)" for the motion picture "Snakes on a Plane" alongside Travis McCoy of Gym Class Heroes and Maja Ivarsson from The Sounds. Beckett's vocals have also been featured on Cute Is What We Aim For's "There's A Class For This", Fall Out Boy's "Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year" and Gym Class Heroes' "7 Weeks".
