Windstream Corporation (NYSE: WIN) is the name of the company resulting from a spinoff of Alltel's wireline (local telephone) division and the division's simultaneous merger with Valor Telecom. Operations started on July 17, 2006.[1] The company is focused on providing services to the rural United States.
Windstream Communications provides voice (local and long distance), broadband internet and entertainment (DISH Network Satellite TV) services to customers in 16 states. The company has 3.2 million access lines in 16 states, $3.2 billion in annual revenues and 8,000 employees.

Windstream Communications is the result of a spinoff-merger of Alltel's wireline (local telephone) business with that of Valor Telecom. The company was named on April 10, 2006, and began operations on July 17, 2006.
