[edit] History
Teams called Witham Town have been in existence since the mid 19th Century. The club was disbanded in 1914 due to the First World War and reformed after the conflict in 1918. This incarnation enjoyed some success including the Braintree & District League Championship in 1920/21 and 1924/25 as well as the Essex Shield Division 2 1925/26. World War II caused the club to once again be disbanded. The present club was formed in 1946, and became champions of the Chelmsford and Mid Essex League Division 2 winners of the Tiptree Charity Cup and the Tolleshunt D`arcy Cup in their first season back playing. The following season the club moved to the Crittalls Windows works ground in the centre of the town and were founder members of the Mid Essex League Premier Division. A supporters club was formed and in 1958 the decision was made to join the Essex and Suffolk Border League and thus step up into intermediate football. During the following seasons the team won the league and it's cup. In 1964 the search was on for a ground to enable the club achieve Senior status and in 1970 the club was offered its present ground, Spa Road, although the move did not happen to 1975. In the meantime Witham Town had been invited to become founder members of the Essex Senior League and accepting they had the honour of becoming inaugural Champions in 1971/72. Witham spent many seasons in this league, winning the championship in 1985-86. The club applied to join the Vauxhall Opel League and this was accepted in 1987. Witham will kick off the 2006-07 season in the newly re-instated Isthmian League First Division North.
