WNEM-TV, "TV 5", is the CBS television affiliate for the Mid-Michigan (Flint - Saginaw - Bay City - Midland, Michigan) television market. It is currently owned by the Meredith Corporation. Although licensed to Bay City, WNEM currently maintains its main studios in downtown Saginaw at 107 Franklin Street. The station operates with 100 kilowatts of power from its 308-meter (1010-foot) tower at 5700 Becker Road in Indiantown, Michigan. The transmitter site was also originally the studios for WNEM from the 1960s until the mid-1980s. Today, the Becker Road complex is home to Delta College's Buena Vista Campus, in addition to WNEM's transmitter.
On cable, WNEM can be seen in Flint on Comcast channel 5 and in the Tri-Cities area on Charter channel 7. Service on Dish Network for the region is also available.
Since September 2006, WNEM has been broadcasting a MyNetworkTV affiliate, known as "My 5", on its DT2 digital subchannel.

[edit] History
WNEM was founded by its namesake, the Northeastern Michigan Corporation, and signed on February 16, 1954, as a NBC affiliate. Originally, its main studios were at Bishop International Airport in Flint, with auxiliary studios in its city of license, Bay City. After a few years, it moved its main studios to the transmitter site in Indiantown, an unincorporated community just east of Saginaw. During its first four years, WNEM had a secondary affiliation with ABC, sharing ABC programming with WKNX (now WEYI) until 1958, when WJRT signed on and took the affiliation.
Gerity bought WNEM later in the 1950s, selling it to Meredith in 1969. By the late 1980s, mirroring a trend in many other television markets, WNEM was the dominant station in Mid-Michigan. However, on January 16, 1995, WNEM and WEYI traded networks, and WNEM has been a CBS affiliate. Also, WNEM gained secondary affiliation with both UPN and The WB, airing programming from the two networks late at night. [1] WNEM relinquish the secondary WB affiliation in the early 2000s to WBSF.
WNEM dropped CBS's daytime soap opera Guiding Light in 1996 due to low ratings, making it one of two CBS stations in the nation that do not carry the program (the other is KOVR in Sacramento, California). WNEM has also televised three home games of the local OHL hockey team, the Saginaw Spirit.
[edit] WNEM DT2 "My 5"
After the February 2006 announcement that the UPN and WB networks would merge to create The CW, it was announced that the area's WB affiliate, WBSF, would become the CW affiliate for the region. As a result, it was later announced that FOX would start up another new network called MyNetworkTV. WNEM then released plans to create a digital subchannel to become the area's MyNetworkTV affiliate. In August of 2006, WNEM unveiled a new logo and branding for the digital subchannel, My 5. There is no separate website for My 5 at the moment.
Programming on My 5 consists of primetime MyNetworkTV programs and syndicated shows like The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Tyra Banks Show and Dr. Phil. Guiding Light, a CBS soap opera cancelled by WNEM in 1996, returned to the market on My 5. As a result, all CBS programs are now cleared in the Mid-Michigan area. My 5 also broadcasts Detroit Pistons NBA games. All WNEM weekday newscasts, except for the 10 PM WNEM-produced newscast on WSMH, are simulcasted on My 5. My 5 airs Fearless Music on Saturdays at Midnight. My 5 also carries Big Time Wrestling on early Saturday and Sunday mornings at 2am. They are the only affiliate to carry the program. On weekday mornings, My 5 airs The Daily Buzz newscast from 7 to 10 AM, as well as in the afternoon. Whenever the main WNEM channel cannot air news due to CBS programming or sports, My 5 broadcasts news under the name TV 5 News on My 5.
My 5 replaced WDIV on Flint-area Comcast cable systems, and WKBD on Tri-Cities Charter cable systems. Both of WDIV and WKBD are Detroit-based stations. My 5 is also seen on Charter cable systems in the Alpena market, even though the main WNEM channel is not seen on that system due to WBKB, which is based in Alpena.
[edit] Newscasts and Personalities
According to Nielsen ratings, WNEM still has the highest-rated news operation in Mid-Michigan. WNEM produces a daily 10 PM newscast for WSMH, the area's FOX affiliate. This practice, which has taken place since April 24, 2006, is possible because of a news share deal between Meredith Corporation (owner of WNEM) and Sinclair Broadcasting Group (owner of WSMH). In addition, WNEM produces news segments for sister radio station WNEM-AM.
