[edit] Heat exchanger

reminder: Dave, I read through the heat exchanger article and I'm not sure they are synonymous. I think part of an air exchanger's duty is to exchange heat, so maybe a reference would be in order, but it is also suppose to recycle air.

This is the kind of info I was looking for, specifically the basics link:

[edit] Minnesota weather culture

After reading the comments on the FA nomination, what do you think about this? I think it would be a good idea, but I also think that same text couple probably be inserted into Minnesota under the Popular Culture section. What do you think about that? That would require a little thought, as I'm not sure what all would belong in such a section. Gopher backer 00:10, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Gwoyeu Romatzyh (writing systems)

I was initially contacted about the Gwoyeu Romatzyh article by User:Ikiroid, who made some valuable suggestions. He also suggested you might be able to help in bringing the article up to GA or FA status. Not having heard back from him for a couple of weeks, I thought I'd establish contact with you directly.

I'd appreciate any comments you might have. --NigelG (or Ndsg) | Talk 11:45, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Have you had a chance to look at this? It's changed quite a bit over the last couple of weeks, & any feedback would be appreciated. --NigelG (or Ndsg) | Talk 16:31, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's next

I'm not really sure. I've looked at the other Minnesota core articles and I don't think I could add very much to them (except for sports, which seems like it's okay). I was thinking of re-doing Climate of Minneapolis, Minnesota into Climate of the Twin Cities so it could be used with Minneapolis, Minnesota, Saint Paul, Minnesota and Twin Cities. I could expand that a little but would go nowhere into the detail that I did for Climate of Minnesota. I may end up trying to expand some University of Minnesota related sports articles. There are also some other smaller articles on Minnesota weather events that I started (list on my user page) that I may try to improve a little too. Gopher backer 18:27, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

I like college hockey, but I don't know enough about its history to be able to write a good article on it. I am still looking around for something to invest my time into though so we'll see. Gopher backer 23:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Rklawton

Hi Dave, I've got an interesting issue with a novice user. He replaced one of my images on the Photographer page with a self-portrait shot in a mirror. I reverted the change primarily on artistic grounds, but added in my edit summery the word "vanity." This really seemed to set the user off, never mind that his self-portrait was ugly and did nothing for the article. At any rate, he has since removed my image again, called it "vanity" (it's not of me and it's no more "vain" than any of my other contributions), and replaced it with another image. The image he replaced it with is pretty nice, though it's got some copyright issues that I'm trying to sort out over in Commons (the usual Flickr user changing licensing on us). At any rate, I'm hoping you might take a look at the matter for me for two purposes. First, I think you might be able to provide some 3rd party advice to the new user regarding appropriate edits, civility, vanity, etc. Second, I'm hoping you might provide me with some useful advice as well - especially because I plan to submit myself to the RfA process in a few weeks - and I've been trying to take on an admin-oriented level of professionalism to my efforts here at Wikipedia. Here are links to the three pages containing the whole of our communications. Fortunately, they are brief. [5][6][7]

Thanks in advance - Rklawton 16:17, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Many thanks indeed for your useful & constructive comments. As it happens, I've been working on a substantial improvement of the History section, which should address some of your points.

Good point about the intro not currently being a summary of the article: I'll see how I can improve that.

Please don't reinsert the IPA and sound file again. The idea of having those is to illustrate foreign names or English names with particularly unintuitive pronunciations, like Beijing or Spokane. Considering the size of the article, there's no point in inserting this kind of pronunciation trivia.

I'm working on my response to Kuru's questions. I'm not sure what he's asking for in his first question, and I've left him a note. Do you think he's asking for my opinion about G1? Or is he asking about how I would evaluate an article under G1?

Since the neutral voters haven't actually asked a question, I wasn't sure if a reply would help. Xoloz's concerns, merits aside (I support WP:SNOW when used appropriately), regard an exchange made 9 months and 9,000 edits ago. Zleitzen's concerns concern a civil exchange of ideas regarding a potentially useful category and about its application in a given instance. If anything, it helps demonstrate the candor of my answer to the conflict question.

Should I add this last part to my RfA? Rklawton 17:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of animals named after celebrities

There are a lot, you can see how many I've added already and I expect to at least double the list. But I'm alright with just letting it grow. Grika 19:23, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need your opionion on something

Someone changed the Halloween Blizzard article to all metric measurements as a primary and put U.S. measurements in parenthesis. I looked at the [MOS] and it basically says all units in science articles shall be metric unless there is a good reason for them not to be. Since the official snowfall records for this storm are kept in inches and not millimeters, is this something I can revert? Gopher backer 03:07, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's next after History of Minnesota

Thanks for the note about History of Minnesota. To answer the question, "What are you going to do now?" I'm going to Disney World!

OK, maybe not. As someone pointed out in the Featured Article review, Fort Snelling is lacking some of the important historical points, such as the Dred Scott affair. The article needs some serious expansion. I also noticed that Susanlesch is working on Minneapolis, Minnesota and History of Minneapolis, so those would be good topics as well. I'll mention those topics at WP:WPMN so others can participate and put in their comments. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 15:23, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Source for Arrowhead pictures

I was searching the web for articles about Mount Josephine today when I ran across this page: http://steveshivers.netfirms.com/mn.html This page is chock full of awesome pictures of the mountains, rivers, and lakes on the arrowhead region. I sent the guy (Steve Shivers) an email requesting permission to use one photo, but if we could get blanket permission to use them all, there are dozens of good quality photos here.Spottacus 02:00, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Minnesota Entertainment section

The section, and the article in general, is starting to attract those who wish to mention their favorite groups or music festivals. It seems to me that only those artists of truly national stature whose work has stood the test of time should be mentioned-- Andrews Sisters, Dylan, probably Prince, and a few others. I would lose the recent additions and maybe a few others, especially given the subsidiary article on Music of Minnesota. But as you seem to be more "in tune" (sorry about that) with the music scene, maybe you could look at the new additions and decide what should stay and what should go. Thanks. Kablammo 15:10, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Minneapolis

Hi, Ravedave. Minneapolis, Minnesota just entered peer review. Maybe we can make some more progress soon. Thanks for your help. Though I disagree with including a long list of external links (and links to other Wikimedia projects where there is very little information about Minneapolis) I do see other people doing this. So I hope you will forgive the callout question about that section in the peer review comments. -Susanlesch 20:56, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Camp Coldwater

The book A Popular History of Minnesota, by Norman K. Risjord, has this to say about Camp Coldwater in a "Visiting History" page: "Summer camp of the Fifth U.S. Infantry, 1820; water source for Fort Snelling; settlement of Selkirk refugees from the Red River Valley until 1840." This page from the Preserve Camp Coldwater site says that the area was once an Indian settlement, then a settlement by the U.S. military in 1820, and then a settlement by the Selkirk Colony squatters who later moved downriver and formed St. Paul. None of those references claim that it was the oldest settlement in Minnesota, though. It wasn't the first settlement of the soldiers who founded Fort Snelling (they were first at a cantonment on the Minnesota River in the winter of 1819-1820), and it most likely wasn't the first Native American settlement either. Kaposia, as an example, was established around 1750.

I think the Camp Coldwater article should be edited to remove the reference claiming it was the first settlement in Minnesota. --Elkman (Elkspeak) 14:09, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

It also assumes there were no settlements prior to those of Euro-Americans-- which would come as a great surprise both to the voyageurs and the First Nations. Kablammo 14:34, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
