[edit] Cheetah-licious Christmas
In 2004, The Cheetah Girls became a real group, instead of an on-screen group and recorded a song for Disneymania 3. After the release of the Disneymania single, they began to record their debut album in early 2005. Without a record label, Walt Disney Records decided to release the album on their label.
They finished recording in mid-2005 and the album was mixed. A release date was then set for October 11, 2005. The girls then were scheduled to go on TV guest appearances to promote the album, but were unable to as Adrienne and Kiely were busy with their other group 3LW. Instead, TRL was sent information on the group and the album. TRL's MTV News segment reported the information on the album, and the group. This was also the first mention of The Cheetah Girls (TV series).
On November 11, 2005, the girls released their headliner single Cheetah-licious Christmas. The music video was not released into mainstream charts, like originally planned, but instead was shown only on the Disney Channel. The song did not chart on any mainstream chart and did not do extremely well on Radio Disney. The album peaked at #74 during it's release in the 2005 holiday season.
On December 12, 2005, the album's second single, Five More Days 'Til Christmas was released. This single was suppossed to attract more attention to the album and the group itself, however, it failed to make the cut, and chart anywhere, even Radio Disney. After, the single's flop, the concert tour was almost cancelled, but the tour had begun and was making money for Disney. The planned music video for Five More Days 'Til Christmas was never made, as the girls were on tour and had no time to make a video.
In 2006, after two holiday seasons, the album has sold nearly 300,000 copies.
[edit] Second studio album
The Cheetah Girls plan to release their second studio album in the summer of 2007. "We'll be making a real album, not a soundtrack", Adrienne Bailon says. "Some of the music on there will be produced by will.i.am from the Black Eyed Peas", she says. "It's important for people to see us as a real musical group. We have all this great marketing around us, with the movies and other things. But we are a musical group."
In an interview with Billboard about the album, Sabrina Bryan stated that the girls worked on writing for the album on their Party's Just Begun tour and that they hope to gather an audience of older fans while simultaneously staying true to their younger fan base. Bryan also stated that the girls would work with producers they've worked with in the past as well as exploring new producers, such as Timbaland. It was also stated that the album would be released on Hollywood Records. Group member, Adrienne Bailon also announced that Girls Just Want to Have Fun will be their first single from the album. In an interview with teen magazine Bop, the girls confirmed that they had already recorded tracks for this album, although they declined to say which ones.
They have also performed songs Falling For You, Cheetah-licious and Girls Just Want to Have Fun from this album on their The Party's Just Begun Tour.
As of March 2007, the album is untitled and the only confirmed tracks are Girls Just Want to Have Fun , Cheetah-licious and Falling For You. Also, the release date of the album was confirmed as June 19, 2007, however in late March of 2007, the album was pushed back and is now set to be released on September 17, 2007.[3]
It was also announced in early spring of 2007, that the Girls' version of Girls Just Want to Have Fun had been pushed back so they could instead release So This Is Love in its place. The song is a cover from the 1950 Disney version of Cinderella and will appear on the album Disneymania 5 A music video will also be shot for the single in Los Angeles over two days.[4] Depending on how the single performs, it may be added to the tracklist of the new album.

[edit] Merchandise
Plans for a Cheetah Girls clothing line were first confirmed in early 2004 by member Adrienne Bailon in an interview with MTV. However there was never any mention about this until August 2006. In a commercial for a So Hot Summer Cheetah Girls 2 Party the narrator was quoted as saying "Also, check out stores now for Cheetah-Licious clothing and accessories." Also, in an appearance on Good Morning America, Raven-Symoné mentioned that The Cheetah Girls clothes would be out soon. Finally in an interview with Martha Stewart, The Cheetah Girls said that the clothes were available in Sears stores nationwide.
The Cheetah Girls was picked up as TV series by Disney Channel in April of 2003, according to an article on the MTV news site. In another article on MTV News website in February of 2004, it said The Cheetah Girls show had been delayed, due to the success of That's So Raven. Therefore, Raven would not have been able to be in the show. Finally, in August 2006 Disney Channel confirmed that the plans for the series were cancelled, and the episodes produced will not air. Though there are rumors of a DVD release of the four episodes.
The Cheetah Girls also have 2 book series the original, that was written by Deborah Gregory, which was the inspiration for the first movie, and the other by Disney authors (who have written books for other shows such as Lizzie McGuire) about characters from the movies.
The Disney Channel Original Movies, as well as a concert DVD, which comes with The Cheetah Girls 2 Special Edition Soundtrack, are also available.
Tour merchandise is also available such as T-shirts, posters, glow sticks, tour books and tour pass necklaces, however they are only available when The Cheetah Girls are on tour, and must be purchased at a concert.
In mid-2006, The Cheetah Girls had a toothbrush modeled after them. The toothbrush features a picture of The Cheetah Girls and plays a clip of their single Shake A Tail Feather. It was one of the most popular toothbrushes for girls between ages 3-9 in 2006, only being beaten out by the spinning, singing Barbie toothbrushes.
In September 2006, Buena Vista released the official Cheetah Girls video game for GBA. A sequel for the game is currently in production, to be released in 2007, before the release of their second studio album.
The Cheetah Girls are also working on other Cheetah Girls merchandise as well, such as an accessories line to be out in the spring of 2007, a handbag line which will be available in Sears stores in 2007, and a line of dolls to also be out in mid-2007, which Sabrina Bryan says are "very life-like".
